Sheets and quilt covers, which brand?

I just want to know some opinions, which brand of manchester is considered as best value? How many % off the RRP for a well known brands such as Sheridan before you considered as a bargain? How about more general designer brand such as Esprit, do they actually make a good product?

  • This is pretty much a personal preference and you are definitely paying a premium for name brands (even if they are on special). It's the BMW vs Hyundai car discussion over again ;-)

I'd suggest you look at the discussion around thread counts here, http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/23213, and use that as a starting point for comparison.

  • Come on, its just a bedding stuff, how come you compare with car? I know it's personal choice, but some people may have tried several brands, and can give some opinions. Also, sometimes you pay for premium but does not actually got a premium quality, ie. ripped off. There are so little manchester deals here on ozbargain, which is why I need some hints about the bargain prices for this stuff.

    • I'm hoping from your comment/tone that you just misunderstood my point ("Come on"?!). The car brand comparison relates to some people finding value in/appreciating the offerings from and expensive brand while others just think they are over priced and that a cheaper brand does a perfectly good job.

Did you read the link to the manchester deal posted above? From it you might understand that some people like sheets with a high thread count and feel them to be luxurious, others just feel the same items to be too heavy and prefer lower thread counts for comfort! Using thread count as a guide when buying helps cut through/avoid the brand marketing game and is a good measure of quality.

I suggest you start with the Target stocked brands with a thread count around 400 and work your way up if you prefer something more luxurious/heavier.

      • It's just a joking tone, sorry about that. I've read the target 100TC sheets deal, but not much info there (no brand mentioned). Also the main topic there is that you can't use the thread count as the only aspect in determining quality, and who knows if its really 1000 TC or not since we can't count it. I think personal experience is the best way, the feels when you use it, the durability, etc. Which is what I'm looking for in this thread.
As for the best value discussion, will you choose a 70% off RRP Sheridan or full priced cheapest brand from Target? I don't think you can significant bargain for BMW except for second hand markets.

  • Obviously I'd prefer Sheridan and other lush brands, but I find Target stuff pretty good value if you buy when their sales are on. Myer has Vue too, which I have found to be nice quality. They always go 40-50% off at sale time. I never buy real cheapie sheets because they don't last well, so find Target and Vue a good compromise, but only when on sale.

  • +1

I find the nameless brands from the DFO seems to be quite value for money… (and they come in plain colours…)

    • +1

Find out if you like "heavier" or lighter style sheets. Then i just stalk myer/dfo/target etc until something i like the feel of comes down to a good price. Dont believe RRPs

  • Has anyone ever bought from online shops, such as oo or dealsdirect? And how about ebay, any particular seller that can be trusted there?

    • I got some nice 1000TC "hotel quality" sheets from catchoftheday about a year ago. They are great quality and have lasted really well

  • I love my 1000TC 'Hotel Collection' pillowcases bought from Kmart, on clearance for $5 ea, from $40 RRP. Also scored 500TC Egyptian cotton King size Quilt Cover for $35 from $99, also during their manchester clearance. I can feel the difference, my old ones are the normal 180TC from Big W. Very thin, not as soft… HTH
