Over 10GB of Music for Free from SXSW 2016

190

Each year the South by South West (SXSW) Music Conference releases a stackload of free music. Because of the sheer size, they are usually collated and made available via torrents. This year it includes 1,593 files totalling 10.33GB. Now not all will be gold…. well, to be honest not much of it I suspect. But hey, it's all apparently legal to download, DRM free, and the price is right.

Thanks to Gizmodo (http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2016/03/time-to-get-your-free-1033…)

Can preview some of the tracks at http://www.sxsw.com/music (via the interactive guide at http://www.sxsw.com/music/preview-guide)

  • Any stand outs?

No idea. Only just found it had been released so haven't downloaded anything yet. I'd suggest having a look through the interactive guide and maybe listen to some that seem interesting…..

Personally I'm going to be flying to Europe in a few weeks, so might go through it then during the 30 hours of mind-boggling boredom, in a pathetic attempt to drown out the screams of the other tortured souls on the 'plane suffering in the cheap seats with me…..

    • The only artist I've heard of is louis the child, electronic/pop

I'm a fan of Methyl Ethyl, who are a local Perth band. I think they've had some airplay on triple J.

I've noticed that Viola Beach are also in the mix, who are famous for being that band that drove off the bridge…

*Edit: Just remembered that my favourite band at the moment played SXSW this year. I'm waiting for Telstra's free data day to download the compilation, but I highly, highly recommend checking out Hinds if they are in there. Best description I can think of for them is girly grunge pop.

That point in your life when you realise you're older than the "in" crowd… Too young for golf, too old to know music. Sheesh

There was a curated list last year that had ~ 100 songs I think.
Have to admit, there were some great songs in there.

… Not sure I want to sample 1,593 songs this year though! Maybe if I wait long enough, someone else will curate a new list!

I see that all the good band names were taken by the late 1970s.

Bump of Chicken says it all? ;)

  • awesome. thanks

  • Hmm, why does the site say "The (UNOFFICIAL) SXSW Torrents" if it's supposed to be legit?

In the meantime I'll defer downloading.

  • 10g's on the mobile ready for some listening….. Downloaded. Quality. Thank you so much.

  • been listening to this the last few days. some awesome music . some average music. some crap music.

some music which you sort of like and would like to hear other stuff from the artist in case they make something that is more of the stuff you like.

Palm Springs by Astronautica is a stand out song in my books so far.
