Cheapest possible flight to Australia internationally

I'm just after the cheapest possible one-way flight that's classed as International into Australia.

I'm talking Bali to Darwin, or similar.

Note it's for travel in October or so. Any class, any carrier. One way.

  • try http://iwantthatflight.com.au/world.aspx and put in different Aus locations. Perth or Darwin to Bali, or Melb/Sydney to NZ are probably your best bets.

    • Thanks; it seemed to be for return only though.

      • yeah, you'll have to find return flights then search for one-way legs from there.

I found AKL-SYD for $124 on Virgin after a quick search. There were also some similarly priced DPS-PER.

        • Edit: See below!

  • +1

A quick look on skyscanner.net finds me one way DPS > DRW on 25th October with Jetstar for $66 one way

On the same date you can also get DPS > PER for $58 with Jetstar also

Pretty good pricing since it's so far away from now.

You'll often find the flights to Perth are cheaper because the route is much busier than DPS > DRW, because there's a lot more people travelling to Perth they often have empty seats that they just want to get rid of for next to nothing.

    • Excellent - thanks a bunch

  • What possible reason could you need this?

    • I'll definitely tell you, but throw me a wild guess first? :D

      • Mail order bride?

        • Ha. It's simply to meet the fine print of travel insurance :)

        • @Pyro:

          Just find a different policy?

Anyways, AirAsia Auckland to Gold Coast is $73.

AirAsia Darwin to Bali is $65 on 21 October.

I found these with Skyscanner, where you can search to and from whole countries and for whole months…

        • @inherentchoice: It's a complimentary one with CC - should have noted that.

        • @inherentchoice:

DPS > PER is cheaper than DPS > DRW, see my post above.

        • @bonezAU:

Hmm skyskanner's search must be faulty I guess.

        • @Pyro:

Be careful with that fine print. My ANZ complementary CC travel insurance is specifically for travel outside Australia. You can't 'activate' it by booking a flight into Australia because the fine says coverage is specifically for outside Australia.

        • @inherentchoice: Thanks! I'm with same. It's actually to satisfy the return part of the travel in the eligibility part.

        • @Pyro: Ah true. I see. So you're not even going to use the flight? In that case maybe you can even get a boat ticket from PNG to Torres Strait?

        • @inherentchoice: Welllllll…. there's a chance. Basically planning a long trip where I definitely won't end where I start and this provides a back-up :)

        • @Pyro: I think the best option is to get a fully refundable ticket. Will cost more $$ but you will just get it refunded before you fly or after you book an alternative flight…

The Jetstar refund fee for a starter fare with Max bundle is $50. That's less that the other options mentioned…

        • @inherentchoice: Oh, as in, book one of these cheaper tickets but on a fully flex arrangement to get the refund. Interesting. I hadn't thought of that to be honest!

        • @Pyro:

Keep in mind getting a refund from a budget carrier can be a right PITA :)

        • @Pyro: Yeah but I'm not sure if it's possible to get a 'flex' fare that allows refunds and has a low cancellation fee. I think Virgin's cancellation fee is $120.

        • @inherentchoice:

          @bonezAU:

It'll definitely be one of these two options for a refundable ticket or straight cheap flight :)

        • @Pyro: and also meets the "even finer print" of the Horrible Indonesian immigration. Book before you enter the country. The swines don't always check but you officially need an outbound ticket booked to show the immigration officer (read " bribe-humgry crook") on arrival.

I have a template in Word to print out a fake one to foil the a$$holes as I don't always have a departure plan prior to arrival.

Hope this is of help to anyone planning a trip
          There.

        • @simmos: Interesting, thanks!

    • Organise a drug courier and thinking they'll get caught.

      • Haha, far more legitmate
