  • Looks pretty good for the specs.
Anyone know how this compares to the Astone 110D or WDTV Live in terms of 1080p playback?

Good price for the original Asus O!Play HDP-R1. See reviews.

The Asus O!Play HDP-R3 has been out for a while now, and costs much more at $173+p/h.

An O!Play HD2 is also coming out.

All three versions feature esata (still faster than USB3 in reality) and the HD2 will feature USB3.

The R3 has wireless networking, and may have more stable firmware than the one for sale (which had firmware teething for a while, though this may have been fixed.)

Make sure you update the firmware: O!Play R1 update guide

    • I am very interested in this O!Play HD system and a noob at this whole media box set…
May I ask whether it is better off buying HDP-R3 for $173 or this HDP-R1 @ $99?
Or is there other FullHD media players box you can recommend?

      Also is ShoppingSquare reliable?
I hear a lot of negative reviews about this online business =(

      • I reckon the asus o play is real good. it has an esata port which most other media player dont (last time ive checked). the only reason you would go for the r3 instead of the r1 if your planning on connecting your comp to it through wifi as far as i know (theres also a built in card reader).
Since my router is near my living room, im just going to get the r1 and use a 5m ethernet cable to connect to it. I dont really trust wireless connect, it might lag if i want to stream some bluray media, dont really know. ethernet should be more reliable then wireless.

I've bought from ShoppingSquare a couple of times without any issues, though not recently.

They're a "rockbottom prices" driven shop, so you could expect that their service quality will be low (for warranties, returns, DOAs, descriptive accuracy etc) though they may somehow (how!) be an exception to this.

Something to keep in mind is that they charge high shipping rates, and usually on a per unit basis; so this should be factored into your costs and expectations.

I think Asus is a brilliant company, I like their willingness to consider design and human values, and I find their products reliable and well-thought out. They appear to have a genuine interest in what they do.

The O!Play is unsurpassed at this pricepoint assuming that the firmware is now in order.

  • Where's the $1 shipping?
