  • Gigabyte R929OC-4GD 4GB R9-290 OC PCI-E VGA Card

    $236

Clayton only, this card is old but is still pretty much the same as the 380 I believe. 4gb makes it a great bargain.

    also possible insufficient quantity

The 290 performs better than the 380. Its pretty much a 390 with half the vram.

      • Yep, the 290 is a great card and is a great price for it.
Note, bit of a power hog so make sure your psu is up for it.

Thought that said 980ti. Nearly sh*t myself.

  • Hay 980 for 500 is actually not bad at all.

  • wish i could get that 980 delivered id so buy it.

    • you could check the other stores clearances they might have one in stock close to you.

    GTX 960 for $189 is great…only 1 left though

    • +1

      Yup and I snagged it!

It was cheap because it was a refurbished item from Gigabyte.

      • great deal would have given it a shot if I didn't just pick up a 950 for around the same price

  • Cmon fury, I'm waiting till you hit $500

  • Ok so I'm not an expert on graphics cards..
How does the 2gb gtx960 compare to the 4gb r9 290? Does the extra 2gb vram make a significant difference?

About $50 price difference but I'm wondering what the better bang for buck choice is?
I know that the gtx960 consumes less power, is the 290 loud?

If it matters, I want to upgrade so I can play on higher settings for guild wars 2

    • If its just for guild wars 2 then 960 is probs a better choice. For other games though the 290 will perform a fair bit better.

    • 290 is a much better card and well worth the price premium if you can afford it.

    • GW2 is more about on CPU than GPU.
If you have a decent graphic card, upgrade on GPU will not help you.
What card you are using atm?

      • Hmm yeah I've heard people say gw2 is more on CPU

        GPU: HD7850
        CPU: i5-3570

Do you think I'd be better off with an upgraded CPU? Or should I upgrade both?

        • You should have no problem using medium graphic, if you want a consistence FPS with high setting, even i7 is struggling as well.

I think it is better to ask on GW2 forum or Reddit for other people's experience.

    • GPUS with less than 4GB of VRAM will have trouble with newer titles. The R9-290 is a great deal at that price. If you only play guild wars and money is tight maybe go the 960.

  • Anyone got any comments on the 780ti? Is that a good price?

    • for $324 yes!

    • you cant get one used for that price

  • so whats up with the Gainward GTX 980, why so cheap, any known issues eg, heat, sound ???

  • Looking at upgrading my card for VR. Any recommendations?

    • 780ti will do it

    • The AMD 290 and NVIDIA 970/780Ti are the two lowest recommended GPUs for VR. This will run VR but obviously more powerful is better. Both camps are about to reveal their next Gen cards which will be better and will answer the questions about NVIDIA and DX12 performance. If you can wait 3 months wait if not I would suggest an AMD 390 (8GB VRAM and most VR stuff seems to use AMD at present).

      • I don't mind waiting for the next gen cards. I'll wait until June then. Cheers.

I jumped on the 780TI @ $324, even with new cards coming out..they will be more expensive and even now the 780TI holds it own against the 980 etc in some games

        • @Coops1: reckon it could handle VR? I'm getting the Vive.

        • @Coops1:

Pardon my nosiness, but your location says Tasmania. How did you manage to get one?

        • +1

          @cruelsinger:

          I asked nicely…..store transfer…..

        • @Coops1:

Ah ok. I only wondered because the single one that was available in Brisbane was taken. Maybe I could do the same thing…

        • @lucksmith:

It should, of course new/er cards might have some fancy stuff that makes VR run faster/better etc

          @cruelsinger:

Try it out…I/You don't have anything to lose asking

  • Anyone after the r9 290 in Clayton, I just went there and they said that last unit is actually faulty and they can't sell it so..
