Time for new CreditCard - what to look for?

Macquarie has decided to make changes to their credit cards May 1st, where they will offer 1 reward pt for every dollar up to $2500, then 0.5pt every dollar afterwards. (was 1pt per dollar before)

Which is now crap……I was given this credit card with my homeloan so there was no annual fee :), plus it had FF points.

Time for a new credit card. I haven't had to look for a new card before so this is new to me. What should i look for? I usually pay the full balance each month.

So should I just look for? (in order of preference):

  • no annual fee (or at least minimal)
  • rewards points which can be used as Qantas FF points
  • Low interest rate? Not needing a low one if I pay off in full every month?
  • Low transfer fee?

recommendations?

I find its best to look for something made of plastic, and which fits in my wallet. That should be the main criteria

    • Lol I'm sorry I didn't realise you didn't notice that you were on the internet.

Although I'm pretty sure I answered the question you posed in your title, even if you didn't realise that 'credit card' is 2 words :)

    • Your question is really one of personal preference and you have already answered your own question by listing your order of preference)

i use this site when i need a new card

  • This Qantas Amex Card has no fees, provides qantas FF points, and you get amex cashback offers.

Plus points for new signup members, based on some initial spending criteria.

  • I see that as you pay off the balance each month, you're really looking to get the most rewards for your spend so don't worry about low interest cards. First of all, analyse what and where you mostly spend on a day to day basis and then decide the type of card you should be getting in order to achieve the best 'return' after taking into consideration of any annual fees. For example, if you mostly spend at supermarkets, get the Amex Platinum Edge if you also like its annual free domestic return flights. There are cards that may be beneficial for certain type of spendings such online purchases (28 degree), overseas travel due to free travel insurance, frequent flyer points etc, so the choices available to you really depend on your spending habits and the sort of rewards that suit you. I gathered from OP that you are looking to replace your day to day credit card so pick one that you will get most points for the bulk of your average spends.

Some cards throw in interest free balance transfer for new card holders but if that is what you need I suggest you keep it separate from your day to day card for purchases, otherwise you may lose your interest free period for not paying the card balance that includes balance transferred.
