  • these any good?

    • yea any idea how good these work?

    • They are useless for exercise, IMHO, as you have to hold your finger from the other hand on the watch.
So useless if you are running, biking etc., and a pain even if not.
Get a proper HRM with a chest strap. You can get them for under $50 online, del.
I don't know why they cannot have a sensor that clips on your finger like hospitals use.

  • What is meant by "Calarie" ? Don't you mean Calorie?

  • They are not accurate at all. I have an identical one and a traditional (accurate) one where there is a transmitter band around the chest. This is extremly unreliable and i wouldn't even reccommend it if it were $5. Useless.

    • can anyone recommend a suitable one?
i have used the one around the chest type before and found it quite accurate too.

      • definitely ebay , i bought some reebok hrm last year and they are awesome.

the prices are very good for second hand as well

        http://cgi.ebay.com.au/POLAR-HEART-RATE-MONITOR-A1-IN-BOX_W0…

        • Polar, (even if an old model) are always great reliable HRM. But ild reccommend a chest type one, or the newer (vry expensive) ones that take it from your wrist

          • @swimmingtoad: Agreed the chest type are really good, and also funnily enough seem to help posture

        • any chance of getting a new one for $50 or under that is reliable?

          • @JPOWER: How reliable? No consumer model is highly reliable.
They tend not to work near high-V power lines, e.g. rail tracks.
But a $50 chest-strap model will probably do the job OK. Its not rocket science.

Polar are overpriced, and I hate the way they seal the transmitter, so you are expected to buy a new one when the battery runs flat.

BTW, i see ebay has lots of finger-sensor cheapies for under $10 delivered. I guess this is no bargain.

          • @JPOWER: The reebok set i got was 35.00 normally 199.00 (apparently) and was from ebay

  • i dont care for this but i dont agree with saving money is as good as making money, i lose money by buying it.

  • I tried a similar style of watch with the pulse sensor's through your fingers and heart rate was very inaccurate! If you want a proper heart rate measurement get one of those ones that strap around your chest. Some can transmit to gym equipment or a polar watch.

Bought one of these Aug 08 for $16 (listed RRP$120 - ya rite). Just wanted something cheap & that's what it is. Need to stop exercising, put it into pulse mode & hold finger over sensor for 10-20 sec's. Really not what I wanted. Don't use it. It's ok for rough idea of HR but not for exercise management. It's still working, so that's gotta be something right.

I already had a basic HRM with strap & another advanced pc connected HRM with strap, so have used the range. Recently decided to try again & ended picking up this

Fairly basic HRM but you can set a training zone & has audible alarm. Working well so far (well that one time I tried it anyway).
