Conference Call

Without boring you all I have a business idea I am in the process of selling to the government. I am in need of a supplier for a key part of the solution and have identified a Canadian company that makes what I am after. I want to have a conference call with these guys early next week. I have myself and one of my tech guys dialing in but due to the time difference the best time will be 10:30 on Monday night.

I dont want to sign up to any plan or make any commitments. I dont want to appear to be a tight@rse to the supplier in Canada by getting some kind of cheaparse conference call with adverts or something on the screen. I also dont want to do a video call, just a teleconference. I dont have any future teleconferences planned so not worried about ongoing benefits etc.

I could do skype or hangouts but I dont know how the guy in Canada will be dialling in (PC or telephone) I could load up on Skype credit and hope he will use his PC? What is the best teleconference system to use? Any tips?

You don't need a smartphone to use Google Voice. It works through Gmail. You can use it like a normal phone.

Done that. How many people will join the conference from the other party? Are they together or using same line?

Depend on who actually drives the deal.
If you are after them, think you should call them to be polite.
Many corporates now use Skype for regular conference, so do not feel shy to ask if the other party uses Skype and Id.

Can get a prepaid mobile plan sim that has cheap international call to use. Think Virgin Simple is not too bad.
you can use your iPhone to call your technician, press swap? call overseas, once connected, ask the party to hold and then press merge.

  • I would like to organise a call then send the guys in Canada the dial in details ahead of time. Ideally i was hoping to get a URL or telephone number for them to join in with. I am planning to send them the link a couple of days ahead of the call.

Going to start with an online payments portal then sell that to big business and use the $$ to build reusable spaceships and electric cars.

        Is that you Elon ?

      • out of curiosity, your location shows Berwick and you are regular on OZB?!

        • Even the rich like a bargain.

I know a Billionaire well close enough ($800m) who saves every cent, the guy had a massive sad over $5k and nearly wanted to walk away from a deal where he was gaining so much.

        • I didnt know Berwick was special? Nothing wrong with a bargain, why waste money, regardless of how much $$ you have in the bank why would you spend more than you have to?
