How Best to Proceed from Here- eBay Sale

Hi there

I recently sold an item on eBay and have the money currently showing as paid pending in PayPal. It's about $250.00 - it looks like the guy put in enough to cover regular parcel post

Just after I noticed the item was sold - the winner has been registered for 2 years and has a total of 2 transactions over the period (I can't see what the items were)

After reading a few stories here I'm concerned that the guy may deny he received it and reverse the money.

I'm considering paying the extra to have it registered and insured and whatnot - will that protect me or are there other things I should consider?

Kind regards

Yes, just send it registered post then you will have proof of delivery and if he tries to pull a swifty on you, Paypal will have your back and refund you.

  • I think this is your first sale right?
last time ebay send me an email for me to list and sale without final value fee, then I sale once.

IT will be pending for 2 weeks as we are a new seller.

if you concern you are always good to pay extra to have it registered(cover for up to $100) and they cant deny they have not got it, normal tracking is sufficient to prove that they got it.

    • Sold stuff before but it's been some time - and I think a bunch of changes with Ebay/PayPal since have happened.. And none of those past sales were to that value…

Others may come and provide more detail, but I believe if you send it via registered post, that should be sufficient. As long as you are able to provide proof of delivery, you will have seller protection.

register it for the extra few $$ - covers your bits

also takes photo of item undamaged, or videos of it working, prior to sending.
may assist if buyer makes a claim.

    • Photos/videos mean nothing.

Source: I have an eBay store. A buyer purchased a mac mini, decided to rip it apart and sent me back a shoebox of bits claiming it didn't work. Paypal still went in the buyer's favour.

      • I assume you sent them some envelopes full of glitter to make up for it

Paypal protection only needs to be trackable online. Any regular australia post parcel does this. There is no need for registered (which is pretty pointless now) unless you wish to insure the article or use signature on delivery which is not required.

  • Is the item a phone or an electronic item? They can be tricky. There's heaps of scam stories about people claiming the phone or other item doesn't work once they recieve the item. They then send back a faulty one or just do a Paypal claim which usually sides with the buyers.

  • Dont sell anything on ebay, use scumtree. Paypal is never in favour of the buyer

    • Was kind of a niche item and I gave it a week there but zero calls on it. Probably over priced it maybeb

  • It looks to be all good. Apart from thinking EBay calculated postage for you accurately it appears all is well.

Buyer confirmed receipt, he's stoked with it being added to his collection of things. Asked for a photo of what he has collected so far.

Anywho guy sent me $15 in postage which wasn't even a third of what it cost to send regular parcel post ($50) so I ate that so I'll remember to do it myself that next time.

Was kinda hoping that it would drop off the face of the earth. I insured it for twice what I sold for it.
