Looking for a Good 8" Tablet

Looking for a good-cheap tablet, my budget is around $270.

I was looking at the xiaomi mi pad 2, but I don't know if those chinese tablets really worth the investment. Anyway, if you have any experience using those kind of tablets, let me know in the comments: where you bought it and how much. I also need a reliable store :)

Thanks Guys.

  • No experience with Xiaomi, but why risk if you can get reputable brand from a brick and mortar shop for this price, thus you could play with it before deciding. Many models below $270, for example: Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.0", Lenovo 8" Yoga Tab 3, Lenovo Tab 2 A8. Check Good Guys, Bing Lee, Harvey Norman, Office Works.

    • Those are all fairly unimpressive when it comes to performance though. It won't hold a candle to the miPad2's much newer hardware and 326 PPI display.

Xiaomi mipad2 from eGlobal is probably the way to go if you want a high-end tablet, from a half decent shop.

There's also a Windows version of the tablet although at a much higher price point. Beware lack of SD card slot.

      • I agree - the mipad 2 looks really good on paper for $$ asked. However it is not perfect (which device is?). Android Authority test summarized: "I would give the Xiaomi MiPad 2 a final rating of 6.5 out of 10 stars. That’s 8 stars for the hardware, at least for the look, materials and feel in the hand, but only 5 stars for software and overall performance":

It really all depends what your priorities are. Back to the original question: how good (or reliable) it is? I do not have personal experience with Xiaomi product - all I know that it is new (2010), fully Chinese owned company (admittedly, large), not sure that reliability and support would be the same as from Samsung or Lenovo - but maybe I am wrong :)

  • Anyone know if there's any deals coming up on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8" ?
Have been eyeballing them for a while, but don't want to pay more than about $370 for it.

does it comes with genuine windows 10?

        • Genuine Windows. There are hands-on reviews on YouTube. Get 2 and still have enough for a few beers down the pub.

        • @kywst:

got a 2nd hand dell venue 7840 from usa instead… most youtuber complain the uneven colour on cheap vhina tablet screen. u usually get what u pay for.

worry about china battery explosion as well. :D

There's nothing that crash hot in the 7-8" range except chinese crap. I was looking at a Samsung S2 but they are $450 and I hate samsung.

Ended up with a $300 Sony Z3 but that was like a 24hr special.

    • I'll let you in on a secret. They're all made in China so they are all Chinese crap.

      • +1

Yes but the Japanese design and software and service makes all the difference.

In our lingo "Chinese crap" means the Chuwis and Pendos and off name crap you get from gearbest.

To flip that around how stupid would you be to refer to Sony or Samsung as 'chinese crap'? Only an idiot would would… and there's the evidence right there.

        • Sure. So long as people understand that not all "Chinese crap" is of poor quality.

edit Didn't see your attempt at a personal attack … or is it? Your examples of Chuwi and Pendo are specific and probably rational. Your blanket statement, however, is just plain wrong. I'm the moron because I don't subscribe to your esoteric truth surrounding electronics manufacturing?

        • In our neck of the woods, if you make extraordinary statements like you just did, you have to back it up with extraordinary evidence.

You have not put forward any evidence.

"Not every no name China tablet is of poor quality. Here's a Chinese brand or model that does not conform to this statement."

          I await your response.

        • @tonyjzx: Response above, I missed your personal attack. Also, you aren't representing a cohort other than yourself so speak for yourself. In your neck of the woods, we = me.

  • Shield K1 tablet? 8 inch, Tegra K1, from Amazon, is around AUD $285.29 (XE.com exchange rate, so probably slightly more).
From what I've heard, new Shield tablet with X1 might be released soon, so I assume K1 tablets would become cheaper soon?

    http://www.androidauthority.com/nvidia-may-new-shield-tablet…

    • how about the asus zenpad s 8 from amazon too, seems a bit better than k1 , 270 shipped , better hurry cos aud keeps dropping.

      • I'd personally go with Tegra K1, though that's just me.
Rather not go with Intel ones instead of ARM ones.
