New Graphics card help. $400-$500 spend?

My graphics card just died and need to get a new one asap as I use my PC for my photography editing as well as some gaming, but yeah, my photo editing is the priority.
I play gane like ARK: Survival Evolved and a few first person shooters.

My system is as follows…
Asus Z87-C motherboard
32GB Ram
i7 (2 years old, not sure of model number)
24" Dell Monitor.

Really appreciate any help.

Thanks everyone.

Kogan ebay sale had EVGA GTX 970 for $370

I would of bought but didn't have money till after sale ended.

  • R9 390. Consoles are GCN, you want GCN. Just look at Nvidia's rubbish performance in Quantum Break. I would not buy anything for another few months as the next generation GPUs are coming. So wait.

  • The problem I have with waiting is that I have photography that needs editing by the end of the month and I really cannot miss too many days of editing on this machine.
I could maybe wait another week, but that's it.

Wish it happened during the 20% off at Ebay.

I assume my Asus Z87-C motherboard takes the current cards. I'm not a PC person, so struggling with all the reading up I'm doing.

Thanks very much for the replies so far folks.

Here you go - current break down of the best graphics cards for the money on Tomshardware: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gpus,4380.html

  • There is still stock of the $391 GTX 970 at MSY through the QLD Online store. Postage will probably be ~$15 if I remember correctly. http://www.msy.com.au/qldonline/pc-components/14470-gainward…

    EDIT: $14.01 shipping to VIC

  • shoulda got a 390*

Wait 2 months and buy an Nvidia Pascal GPU ( these are the assumed names of the cards: 1070 and 1080)

    • whoever negged me is a clueless idiot

      • Did you read OP's comment?

Unless you can send OP a time machine to go months into the future, grab a 1070 for a good price, then come back into the present so he can do his work, then yes, whoever negged you would be an idiot.

An integrated Intel GPU is sufficient for photoshop. If he doesn't' have one of those CPUs then badluck to him.
I'm sure he can lay off the games for 2 months.

  • cant you just use the on board graphics for 2 months?

  • Like I said, I need the graphics card to help with some heavy photo editing processes I do.
    Thanks for the replies folks.

  • If you don't mind 2nd hand. You can look for something like a r9 290/290x. Still very capable. I've seen then for go for around 250-300

  • Is this close to you OP?
