    • Thanks!

    • It's only 25grams! Not mentioned in listing but labling says it!!

      • Does the sx suffix on your name stand for extra-small?

My medium has 37g of fill. Which doesn't include the fabric that I expect will weigh more than that.
It is very light though. And warm.
I just hope it's quite strong too.

        • +1

The shell material is definitely not strong. I've got scratches and tears mainly in the pocket/front areas of my vests and jackets. I am certainly not harsh on my clothing and found even wearing a seat belt created scratches on them and eventually small tears. In being light you're sacrificing durability. That said, they are brilliant to pack and travel with but I think everyday use is a bit beyond these products currently.

NOTE - I have owned one of these product for at least 18 mths - 2 years.

    Men's Ultra Light Down Vest

Can you get down off an elephant?

    • +5

      Well that was racist -|-

        • +2

It's not the truth. I think “personal opinion” is more acccurate.

        • +5

I guess Marty McFly must be 'too Asian' then.

    • +7

      Japanese is good …

      • I mean their clothing …. :p

    • +1

What's wrong with too Asian ?

      • +1

You can have too much of a good thing.

  • +2

      • -3

        I mean some famous colours.

        • +1

When I checked yesterday only light blue, white, red have more size available. Today only light blue have all size.

          What do you think?

        • @superforever:
          What do I think ?

I think you need a course in written English.

  • +4

They're supposed to be very warm but i just cant bring myself to wear something so ugly.

    • +3

Try it on you will find they look difference.

      • +5

Nah I've seen people wearing them, it's just not my thing.

        • Yep, too Asian for me.

        • @stonkered: looking Asian doesn't bother me, looking like Marty McFly does!

        • @onetwothree:

Wow! Marty McFly-ism. In this day and age. I'm lost for words.

    • +8

If it's warm, who cares. And a tip …. No one cares what you wear :)

      • +4

        No one except me.

      • Noone (really) cares, but 'taking' care of these items is more of an issue. Avoid getting them wet, and stay away from anything sharp that can tear them open. Not durable like cotton/wool.

    • I agree with you - They remind me too much of the michelin tyre man.

    • I agree. Don't do it. These are hideous and I've never seen anyone pull one off. One of the worst things about winter. They look like the shell of a ninja turtle.

Where is the sleeve??? Is there only sleeveless down jackets available on market?

    • They're not $39.90

    • +1

They're on sale price due to this manufacturing error - sleeves were omitted. ;)

  • These were $199 HKD in Jan "on sale". I suppose it's about the same price with a crappy exchange rate etc.

  • These are nice and warm for the money, but the feathers can sometimes "leak" from the seams apparently, so be prepared to lint-roll your clothes regularly if you wear these over solid dark colours.

    • +2

Actually, you want to try and 'pull' the feathers back inside the down jacket. Otherwise, youll have nothing left after a while!

(If you want to know how to do this, hold the surface where it the feather is protruding from, but dont grab the feather itself. Then try to 'pinch' the extruding feather from the inside (other side of jacket) and slowly tug until it falls back inside.

      • Slowly developed that method myself - happens with their normal down feather jackets, i think mainly as i wear a backpack so the rubbing motion will eventually push the feathers more around your back part out.

a small inconvenience, it doesn't happen as bad as it sounds, but given how light and thin they are i do cry a little each time another feather came out without me noticing it in time (to do the pull back into jacket technique haha)

      • That method will work if you can find the other feather "end" from the other side. I find it pretty difficult especially if the feather is coming out right at near the threads. When that happens, I pull the feather right out and stuff it in the jacket pocket :)

    • This is normal.

The North Face and Kathmandu have statements saying that during the manufacturing process some feathers get trapped in the seams when they sew the baffles. It is normal for these to leak out over time.

I can't vouch for cheaper vests though. They could leak purely due to cheap stitching.

    • -1

Sometimes? Try constantly. Even wearing one for a day, the layer underneath (or on top) will be absolutely COVERED in feathers. Since it will be cold I'm not constantly opening the jacket and checking for feathers to pull back inside. I keep mine strictly for travel because of this (and the fact they're not that great looking, not too puffy just not really my style).

I didn't get a "$10 off first order" offer (email) as the OP suggested.
Instead, I got a "$10 off all purchases over $50 for the next 30 days" offer.
Orders under $50 are also subject to postage - ($5.95 std Aus delivery which isn't too unreasonable), but click n collect isn't an option.

So this deal isn't eligible for the $10 off alone. The range of clothes, sizings, colours and styles available online makes for slim pickings to bump the order up.

As an experiment I added a couple of ugly t-shirts to my order to take it above $50 for free postage and coupon eligibility, however the coupon negated the free delivery because the order came back below $50 (by 30c!).

There doesn't seem to be a size guide either, There's a link for a size guide but it goes to FAQs that don't include sizing.
As I'm not sure what size to buy (some people say these are true to size and fit as expected (which isn't very helpful without the size guide and without knowing people's expectations), others say they are slightly large, I think I'll pop into the store tomorrow.
Imho, they need to be snug to look good.

    • +1

      Thanks, I'll make an update.

      • +1

Sorry, I wasn't digging you out - I just thought I might save someone a bit of time trying to work out how/if they can get the coupon and free postage.

I've always wondered… but when do people use these vests?

Not just these uniqlo ones, but if you take these as an example, their down feather - therefore warm (I have the normal full sleeved ones, and for its thinness it does a decent job in non-sub zero temperatures, but still single digits etc when layered with a tshirt or two), it covers everything but your arms? But surely if it was that cold to use a vest your arms would need protection too?

It's always puzzled me since i've always loved the "fashion look" some have paired off with a vest, but practicality wise i could never work out how one could be cold enough to protect the core body, but leave the arms uncovered.

    • I always groan when I see people wearing scarves and beanies with a t-shirt, or even a singlet!

      • i wish i could do it but i guess i get too hot or too cold - it's either a lighter jacket all round, or none at all. i couldn't do the warm down feather vest but yet still have my arms exposed haha.

so i'm just assuming the whole vest is always about style/fashion than practicality? wish their normal duck down feather jackets were this price!

        • see my vest

Perhaps as mentioned will cover your core body so its used during Autumn or Spring, whereas a full down jacket maybe too warm

        • +1

@mmd: Yeah, pretty much this. I used to always wonder why people would wear a vest and a t-shirt, til I did it and it was magic. Your back is so pleasantly warm but you don't over heat. Its just too bad these vests are so limited in sizes because I've been eyeing them off for ages. Uniqlo generally size smaller than usual, thus the larger sizes are all gone.

    • +1

I use them to layer over a jukper or under a coat style jacket

The returns policy is a little iffy: http://www.uniqlo.com/au/store/help/returns/

They say you can use ParcelPoint ( http://parcelpoint.com.au/uniqlo/return/method ) which says: "Your return is FREE and includes parcel tracking."
Uniqlo's site, however, says: "AU$7.00 return handling fee will be deducted from the refund amount when you ship your return."
And they won't refund the original postage either.

    • +1

Yep, they used to allow online purchases to be returned in store, but this has been removed from the returns policy. I asked for clarification in store and they said that would only be considered on a case by case basis, meaning they could very well refuse to refund your online purchase instore. I won't be buying again online unless I was very sure about a product and even then they have very little sizes and choices online when there's a sale.

  • Too George Costanza

  • Puffy winter jacket syndrome here I come!

  • Ultra light - right! It's only 25g!
Yes 25 grams. Can Fit into a garden glove.
This was posted last week, bought two. Ok quality and very soft.

I got the light blue (col 64). It's not as light-shaded as the website depicts. I would describe it as a medium shade of blue.
Contrary to some posters' suggestions that Uniqlo sizes are small, I found the medium size to be a little bit roomy when tried on over a t-shirt, (I'm a 40") and the sides not as tailored as website images suggest, so not snug despite my lovehandles. Under arms might have been too tight in a smaller size though.
There's an inside pocket, as a bonus.
