Making an Android app to get Google money

Hi Ozbargain

I have around $50 in google play credit which I can't cash out and have to spend on app or in app purchases on android google

If create an app on android google (cost to sign up is around $35 AUD)

then

enable in app payments to be received in my new app I have created

is it possible to channel the money back to me through this method

noted that I will take a percentage hit on the cash

Would this work?

and

Are there any other costs I am not considering?

Thanks for your time

All that for less than $15 lol

Maybe more like 10 bucks after Google takes commission.

    Buy some music?

Using Rebatr you would get 55% back, so a little over $25.

  • That's an interesting idea, I'm interested to know if this is possible.

    • It's definitely possible, just quite a bit of effort for not a whole lot of reward.

But over time it could be rewarding.

Remember he just has to create the app once and then thats it.

Can probably think of easier ways then spending 100+ hours to make $10

        • @idjces:

If the op is capable then it could be less hours but yeh the time to develop the application could take hours to create

    Your time.

  • Buy Music, videos, books (there must be something that interests you even if you've already watched/listened/read a pirated copy already)or apps that you have free versions of.

  • You can also spend on international data packs. They're expensive but then again the recharge credit is 'free' (sort of, you know what I mean).

    • You can also spend on international data packs

      Wait how?

      • Just redeem the credit for an International Browse Pack in your account. Something like 100MB/30 days for $30 IIRC and only in selected countries. But International really means that, you can't use it in Australia. But it was useful enough to check my email overseas with a Telstra SIM.

  • Someone else who did this had their app pulled from the google play store and their developer account revoked, so make sure you don't do what he did for that to happen.

  • Been mentioned here on OzB a few times in past couple months. Search for Telstra recharge credit

fwiw here are the TOS you would be breaking. You can kiss your $35 goodbye (as well as any credit you have spent), like a bunch of other people before you

    • How do you know the money spent will be lost?

    • Reminds me of the T&Cs on AMEX statement credits. Yes we'd better not buy any gift cards because AMEX T&Cs won't allow that :)

  • Your app would likely not make it past the review stage.

    • Well there's already 2 on the play store, fully functioning.

      • You mean, there used to be two, before google revoked accounts

        • No what I wrote is correct. There are two in the play store right now. I just checked

        • @PBG:

I assumed you were refering to the two more common ones, of which only rebatr is still up (for now).

My point was google actively enforces it's TOS, and people have been burned circumventing them

        • @idjces: T-cashback is still there as well.

My response was originally to psyren89 who commented that the app wouldn't get past the review stage

  • Will this work for the Telstra freedom plus credit each month.
Buy you own in-app purchases for the $30/$40Telstra credit each month….

    • Yes absolutely, that's the whole point of these apps. Less Google's 30% commission of course.

Combine this with starter pack jumping and your monthly mobile expense will be a profit :)

      • starter pack jumping

Can you do this without getting a new number every month?

        • +1

Activation by port over - number transfer, exists, affirmative.

or any combo of GVoLTe/ Apple Sim/Dual sim alternatively
(DSDS-single transceiver practical only for outgoing usage)

        • +1

i.e Worthwhile for $15, leaving out ROI (bimonthly)
Permanent nums w/ online VoIP, or by two SIMs.

  • Sell it on Gumtree for $35

  • Rebatr is working brilliantly at the moment. I'm getting 55% back each month/recharge.
I wonder how long it'll last!

Was also given a brilliant idea on here by someone else:

    http://telcotogether.org/TextGiving/Charities.aspx

You can essentially donate your prepaid credit to charity via sms and then claim back the donations on your tax each year!

  • Looks like Rebatr's finally been taken down

  • Is there anyhing currently on the play store taking advantage of this concept?
