    Oh no, not this again.

This is the same deal that certain pushy backpackers try to flog you in shopping centre car parks the moment you step out of your vehicle.

Trust me, once you come across these folk you'll soon realise that they're worse than chuggers, and that's saying something.

I once got out of my car to be met by a guy in a blue shirt at a Melbourne car park. He started hassling me about this offer (despite being redeemable at another outlet, not the OP's outlet but the vouchers had the exact same entitlements and the exact same price) and how it was for a limited time only. I even mentioned that I didn't have cash with me right there and then, to which he said that he had an EFTPOS machine on him.

I told him that I wasn't interested in this because I had my car serviced a while ago and wasn't due for anything any time soon, and he said that these would be valid for 3 years. I pointed out that vouchers stated a maximum validity of 12 months, which he instantly crossed out with a pen and wrote "3 yrs", telling me that if I had any issues that I could call him.

After wasting 20 minutes with the knucklehead on my back I told him that if he continued to follow me that I would call the police. That stopped him.

Nonetheless, not to detract from OP's offer but I am of the firm opinion that if any mechanics are even remotely associated with these walking scammers that they wouldn't have my business. Think of this as a Scoopon for mechanics, multiply that by 100, and you'd be halfway there.

I was thinking, free 1yr service, how bad can this be?

    • firstly you pay for the 'voucher'

secondly, most of the value is money off ie $50 off automatic transmission service. what is to stop them inflating the cost of a transmission service by the $50 saving.

Personally, i can not see how these things are not scams.

1x free engine management diagnostic check (value $66) - shouldnt this be part of the standard service
1 front or rear brake pad replacement including rotor maching for $123 ( value $250) save $127 - thats pretty close to what I paid for my last pad replacement

additional charges may be applied to ……. imported - my wifes Mazda is imported. Most of the cars on the road are imported.

  • I had a door to door guy a month ago offering the same thing but a different company here in belmont.. Was a bit pushy.. Are these scams??
