Hisense 65" or Sony 65" kdl65w850c

I'm about to buy the hisense 65k700 for $1750 maybe even less from a mate who will sell me his give cards so maybe approx $1575.
It's supposed to be smart tv ,what is that? loaded with apps? Let's just say my tvs are so old they don't have this,3D etc.

Now I was in a store today and for not much more than I'm paying above without the gift card discount I could get this Sony 65"KDL65W850C model.

I know there be a lot of Sony fans and lesser hisense fans but ain't the Sony not got 4K.

Guy said about the Sony that it has Google cast? Or android but so does hisense he tried to say it's not full version in hisense and can't be updated where as Sony can?

He really was focused on me getting the Sony over the hisense and I have read great reviews on this hisense model and it comes with 3 yr warrant.

I was planning on buying the hisense as soon as tomorrow but after going to another store he had made me thing more about this Sony model.

What's your thoughts.

I was also told 3D was a waste of time he maybe right did it ever kick off? And if you ever wanted a 3D tv buy an lg well a certain model as it does not flicker?
What does he mean?
Are there issues with watching in 3D?

Thanks

of course sony. go with known brands…
just have a look at the tvs you know the difference in pic quality, build, etc

Yes but most people go with the big names they are not always the better option,I'm a Samsung fan but saying that I have owned one plasma and that was Samsung where as family are fans of Panasonic for me it's what's on offer and price etc

  • The LG 3D TV's are mostly passive and don't flicker like active 3D TV's do. Passive 3D doesn't require heavy and expensive Active 3D glasses, you can just use the same 3D glasses you get when you go to the movies. The flicker is inherent of the active 3D design. I have an LG 3D TV and my family absolutely love watching 3D movies on it :)

  • I have the Sony w850c
    The android system is great.
I've used Roku and Chromecast and prefer Sony Android's integration over that.
It also plays nicely with my PS4, when turning the controller on, it'll change to that channel straight away.

My friends have bought the 4K version of the Sony TV.
I haven't seen it in person, but they do complain about the lack of 4k content they have.
I buy TVs every 7-10years, so thinking back I should of got the 4k version which was $2400 at the time and future proofed myself.

    • That's why I thought hisense as Sony 4K one would be very expensive I'm sure

From what I saw of the HiSense in store, i was not impressed by the "Smart TV" features.
It seemed slow and laggy, the Android system on the Sony is very good.
You can use the playstore to add some games/apps.
You can also use your PS4 controller to control these android games.

I had the same offer where the Hisense would be the same price as the Sony w850c.
I am much happier going with the Sony instead of the HiSense

I have had a Hisense a few weeks ago and returned it. You can tell that they saved on everything. What good is a smart tv if it is to slow to everything, applications are limited, sound horrible and so on…

  • Ignore 4K, buy Sony/Samsung/Panasonic for anything over $1k

Just my opinion, but I certainly wouldn't touch the lesser brands at that price!

      Ignore 4K

      This.

It's paying a premium for a feature that you will rarely use atm.

      • I have a 4k sony, never use the 4k. Even my PS4 isn't 4K. its wasted at the moment. It was a want not a need. Mainly watch TV, sports. none of which are broadcast in 4k, be lucky if its even 1080
Some movies are downloadable in 4K but not all.
Give it a few more years and maybe it will be more mainstream. It took 1080p years to be mainstream.

        • Except for the small fact that 1080p looks way better on a 4k screen when its upscaled.

Unless of course you have a screen smaller than 65 inches. Then its pretty useless.

        • @thorton82: 79inch
It looks slightly better upscaled but it aint 4k by a long shot. The fact is there is a significant difference when compared.

        • @captobvious: A good 1080p source upscaled runs 4K close I think. You can tell, but both are way better than a regular 1080p screen.

  • I'm a big Hisense fan; family & friends have quite a few sets of various size & model, I couldn't fault a single one of them. One needed a FW update, with a single phone call Hisense couriered out a USB drive with the update on it within a couple of days, no charge of course.

A lot of brand snobs carry on over names, but they don't realise that in China Hisense & TCL are tier 1 brands with very good reputations, and here they are usually providing more warranty than the big names to help build that rep.

I'd seriously look at them side by side, if you like what you see, give them a go, you'll be pleasantly surprised IMHO.

    • side by side

But make sure they're both fed individual video feeds, and that neither one has a shared feed.
Even then they could've messed with the settings to make 1 look better :/

      • Yep, that happens quite a bit at JB Hifi…one salesman even admitted it to me, they sabotage the settings of the units they aren't under pressure to move, and tweak the ones they do need to shift! ;)

        • Yeah I know they do, and it's obvious when you're in store, which is why I always find it amusing when people say they noticed differences in-store :)

And also make it hard to base a purchase decision! Have to look up reviews etc or just go with your gut :/

        • @Spackbace: My shopping policy is to get into the menu & reset to factory picture setting defaults!

I did it one day at Big W, some ladies looking on were very (easily) impressed, the wife told them I was like Tony Stark! :)

        • @StewBalls:

Even funner when you're doing it from a Galaxy S5/S6 etc ;)

Went into a cafe when on holiday with the family, air-con unit was off, cafe was stuffy. Cafe manager said the remote was out of batteries (still not sure if he was just trying to save power). Whipped out my phone, put in the a/c brand, hit the power button, much better :) I was the tech hero for the next hour lol

        • @Spackbace: Ok, you can be Justin Hammer then! ;)

  • What does one have the other does not apart from 4K and 3yr warranty?

  • You'll want to view the quality of the panels. When I was looking at a similar comparison (few years ago, so different models) actually watching something on the screens changed my mind. The cheaper one looked it.

  • To be honest they probably look all same to me,and upgrading from an old heavy Samsung plasma 42" will see big difference just want to know which is better,I know a lot of people stick by there brand names

    • Price is a factor for a lot of people but if you are having a good run with a brand stick to it. But dont be shocked if it fails, things are not built to last anymore. Get the extended warranty

  • I recently bought a 65" Samsung and considered the Sony 65". The main thing that put me off was online reviews, more to do with the OS crashing and being buggy than anything else. Everyone seemed happy with the actual screen, but I'd get very annoyed with a semi-functional OS. Never actually tried it myself, but there were enough reviews saying similar things to put me off.

    Never tried a Hisense.

"I know there be a lot of Sony fans and lesser hisense fans but ain't the Sony not got 4K."

    wtf does that mean?

    • Less hisense fans but model I'm asking about not got 4K,hisense has.

      • Still doesn't make sense

        • Lol. Yeah, sentences would help. The Sony model doesn't have 4K, but the Hisense model has 4K. There are more Sony fans than Hisense fans.

        • +1

          I not got you

  • If i went for hisense it comes with three warranty, which be long enough for me and take my chances with that.
But if i took sony it has one year warranty do most of you take extra warranty, not bother or can you buy from independent company and not from store.
Or does it have to be from store you buy.
Who got warranty and had to use and had issues or was all good?

I have a 65" hisense. Piece of crap. I mean it hasn't broken or anything but it's the software/hardware that's terrible. First of all when you turn it on it takes a good 3 minutes till its loaded and functioning correctly (it's a smart tv - but this load time is just to watch normal tv). Wifi is crap - drops out easily and gets a poor signal even though my house has perfect wifi for everything else I own. Audio is terrible, very hard to hear.picture average. It's about 9 months old now. Never again, should of bought the Sony or Samsung.

    • Thanks for your input close call for me as almost got one but went sony.
