Should I Relist an eBay Item before an Unpaid Item Case Is Closed?

I listed an item for sale on eBay, with the only payment method being PayPal. A buyer purchased the item but is now claiming that he/she cannot pay via PayPal. Long story short, the buyer has stated that he/she cannot pay via PayPal and I'm just waiting for 4 days to pass before opening an 'unpaid item' case, then a further 4 days before it closes and I get a final insertion fee credit. Based on my lengthy communications with this buyer, he/she sounds extremely dodgy hence I am refusing to allow any other form of payment apart from PayPal.

In the meantime, should I relist the item so that other people can buy it, rather than waiting for 8 days minimum before the case is opened and closed? I'm keen to sell the item ASAP. Is the main risk that if a 2nd buyer purchases my relisted item and then the 1st buyer actually pays, I cannot fulfil the 2nd sale and have to cancel + refund the 2nd sale (and risk negative feedback from the 2nd buyer)?

  • Out of curiosity how does this person want to pay?

    • It started off with a request to pay by money order. Then the buyer suggested sending me cash in an envelope. It then morphed into the buyer asking to meet me at Sydney airport after he/she flies down from northern QLD to pay in cash. The latest one is asking for ME to fly up to northern QLD to meet him/her so he/she can pay in cash! What a farce….

      • Sounds like a typical iPhone sale transaction to me.. I hate when they release a new one because I get this, and usually 3-4 times before someone actually does pay.

Relist it, if they pay, just refund them.

        • ask for them to book you the flight and pay for it themselves.

          SO-

yes, they pay for the flight and you go up and sell.

or they don't pay and it confirms their dodgyness.

  • Sounds like a scam…Don't relist it, duplicate it then list.

  • How did the 1st buyer expect to pay?

    EDIT: Nevermind.

  • Don't relist. When your non-payment case closes, the item will automatically be relisted for you.

    • wait until case closes. I have had a buyer pay on the last day of a case and had already listed and re-sold the item.

thankfully i had 2 of the same item so it all worked out.

  • Just use sell similar and relist the item. Even if they do pay just cancel the transaction (as the item is no longer available).

Use the 'Block Bidder' option to stop this idiot from buying anything from you in future. To do this just click Help & Contact (top left of page) and type block bidder in the search box.

    • block bidder

This is a waste of time because it doesn't work. This member or any member for that matter can get a new user id and countine bidding.

Is it possible to also block based on low # of transactions or something similar?

If so, this combined with blocking the bidder, would mean only the most determined buyer would petty bid on something, as they would need to be buying other things first (if a new account).

        • Ebay has a feature to block new users and users with a score threshold that you can set. i think i set mine to 2 negative votes in 12 months cant bid/buy

should I relist the item so that other people can buy it, rather than waiting for 8 days minimum before the case is opened and closed?

Sure. Relist the item as a ten auction-style listing. The upi will be closed by the time the listing ends. Hopefully there will be a few bids and you may even sell the item for more this time around.

  • Simply cancel the transaction and re-list, don't flag as unpaid.

    To cancel a transaction

Go to My eBay > Sold and locate the item.
In the More actions drop-down menu, select Cancel this order.
Choose a reason for the cancellation and follow the on-screen instructions.

    • I would not recommend this as it counts as a strike against you.
