Host in Australia Cancel Services Free Users

Knew they were too good to be true
Sigh another fly by night host

All free users read this now!!!!

Dear valued Host in Aus clients, Due to growth in other areas of the business, the directors of Host in Aus have made the decision to discontinue web hosting services. Digital Innovations IT Solutions, a Melbourne - based managed services provider, will be acquiring the assets and client base of Host in Aus. For clients on paid hosting plans, you will be contacted in the next 1-2 weeks to arrange migration to their managed hosting platform and any other information they require. For clients on free hosting, Digital Innovations had indicated that they will not be continuing to offer free services. They would be more than willing to migrate any current free plans to a paid hosting plan and continue services uninterrupted, otherwise you have until the 18/05/2016 to move your hosting to another provider. As after this date all hosting services from Host in Aus will be terminated, and any remaining sites deleted. If you have any questions or require any further information, please contact Host in Aus during business hours, on 03 9017 5062 Regards, Bruce C Host in Aus

This sounds shady to me. Digital Innovations IT Solutions doesn't show up anywhere on the internet.

        re: the above website.
Having just visited it, my confidence is about zero,
e.g. About Us, News - zero content.
And their web hosting content has no pricing plans!
Lastly, the Home page has a rotating 'testimony' text in foreign language.
Does anyone have an opinion on this company given some former 'valued' clients of HIA may migrate to this company?
        cheers
        Jman

          pretty bad, hey.

  • +2

Yeah seems pretty much like that to me too
    Sign up people
    Build a client database
Spam us with Junk or onsell information

    Very dodgy practices

Exactly the same thing that happened with 9web and their $1 hosting plan.

At least they gave a lot more notice than one month!

      • Except 9web were reselling VentraIP (Synergy) that are well known and established.

Small companies selling at almost nothing almost always sell up or close.

  • Sad :(

You were expecting free web hosting to just be free?

    • +2

Yeah why not. Plenty of things are "free" in that the provider leverages them into ways to make money (gmail, dropbox, freemium games, etc, etc).

  • What about the domain name? Would I still own that?

  • +1

Well I've just bitten the bullet and signed up with the buyshared.net $5US a year plan. I rarely use my site but it might be needed one day… right? :-)

Ironically … the most(only?) traffic my site has seen over the last few years is the migration from one failed free host to another. :-/

Hope everyone finds a long lasting new hosting company to migrate to!

    Cheers,
    Robert

re: Host In Aust (HIA) no longer providing web hosting
Then why does their website still offer plans?
    Is this legal?
    cheers

  • Now ServersAustralia has bit the dust on free plans too (Acquired by VentraIP). What annoys me is that they must have had this all ready to go for quite some time without telling anyone (so there could have been more notice), because at the exact moment they send the email about the acquisition, they already "migrated" all systems to VentraIP and provided me with the new VentraIP login details with services already listed in there. Quickest migration ever.

  • Hi Everyone,
I was the one who posted the original deal on OzBargain. Let me address some of the issues raised here. I was formerly working in sales for Host in Aus, and have now moved across to Digital Innovations to assist with the migration.

-Host in Aus had no plans to sell out at the time of posting the deal, nor did it go out of business. The company was acquired by Digital Innovations IT Solutions, a managed services provider, with the intent of acquiring the reseller and corporate clients.

    • The decision was made to end the free hosting offer as Digital Innovations uses a different hosting platform, which provides highly-resourced hosting for large sites, and does not suit the free hosting model, and adding to this, the Plesk Automation system that Host in Aus was using reached End of Life when Odin was acquired by Ingram Micro in late 2015.

    • No email addresses were farmed, and all data has been permanently deleted, except for the 400 clients that were migrated. No marketing email was ever sent, and no info was sold or spam sent.

    • We sill have all the Host in Aus client website data backed up if anyone needs access to it.

If you have any more questions or would like to know more, you can contact Alex, the director of Digital Innovations by email on [email protected] or call him personally on 0400 699 620

    • What happens to my domain name? Do I still have access to it?
