Things to Do in Sydney for $1 Including Food & Others Via The Urban List

1800

The Urban List just posted a guide of things to do in Sydney for under $1. Here is a copy of the article :)

Dumplings at The Smoking Panda
Ever tried to eat your weight in dumplings? Well now you can at The Smoking Panda. You have from 4pm to 7pm on Mondays to eat your fill of $1 dumplings, while sipping cocktails too (sadly, these aren’t $1).

Chicken wings at Black Penny
Spice up a Monday night in Surry Hills with chicken wings and chicken drumsticks at only 50 cents each at the Black Penny. These wings and legs are spicy though so be prepared. And with being a mere 50 cents each, you can splash your cash and get TWO wings for your hard earned dollar.

$1 Dogs at The Soda Factory
Every Tuesday you can choose from six different gourmet hot dogs for just $1 each (this also includes two vegetarian options) at The Soda Factory. Gourmet hot dogs for $1 sounds even better than a Saturday sausage sizzle down at Bunnings.

Monday night oysters at Johnny Lobster
Johnny Lobster is offering freshly shucked Sydney rock oysters for just $1 each on Monday nights. For that price you’d think you would have to shuck them yourselves (thankfully you don’t).

Entry to Taronga Zoo on your birthday
Taronga Zoo is celebrating its first 100 years and is inviting Sydney to attend the not-for-profit wildlife zoo for just $1 on your birthday. All proceeds are going towards our cute little friends and you even get a free birthday badge to remember the day.

$1 Tacos at The Cuban Place
The Wednesday night special over at The Cuban Place is $1 tacos with a drink purchase. Taking into consideration the kebab you would have to buy later on, getting tacos for just $1 is financially sound alternative to a late night drink on the town.

Oysters and dumplings at Crown Street Fish Shop
Come for the $1 oysters, stay for the curiosity of trying the Lobster mac ‘n’ cheese. On Monday nights oysters are only a dollar each, but if you can’t make Monday then why not try again on Wednesday night for the dollar dumplings? Between Monday and Wednesday nights at Crown Street Fish Shop you can eat like a king on a budget. A really tiny budget.

$1 dumplings at Della Hyde
Get your fill of dumplings at Darlinghurst bar, Della Hyde from 5pm on Tuesdays. We won't blame you if you eat so many you turn into one. We'd do the same.

Sorry mate I'm new here! Just changed it. That better?

      • +3

That's fine. It would need the store title too, The Urban List. A mod or power user will probably fix it up for you.

You missed the last on the site recommendations

    $1 dumplings at Della Hyde

Wish there was a list for Melbourne where I am.

Taronga Zoo deal is awesome, went there for my wife's birthday last month.

    • +2

if only it didn't have to be on the day.

  • +1

Nice, just to correct I believe the Smoking Panda dumplings are on a Tuesday, it's closed Monday by the looks of it.

$1 dumplings aren't really a deal when you can get a plate of 16 for about 10 bucks in Chinatown

    • +11

15 dumplings for $8.50 at market city food court. Choice between boiled or pan fried.

      • shiiit, do you know the name of the shop?

        • The one on the left of Chinese BBQ place where they hang the ducks and pork belly. Forgot what's the shop called.

Also forgot to mention they advertise it as "steamed". so it's actually choice between steamed, pan fried, or boiled. I asked and they were happy to pan fry

        • Thanks!

      • Do you rate it though or is it just cheap and tastes cheap?

        • They are ok. Not fabulous. Fulfilling though.

    • For 1 dumpling???

  • Johnny Wong also has $1 Dumplings on a Wednesday

@Jcheunga, this is more for people that want a nice drink in a bar at the same time, not just a cheap lunch in Chinatown.

    • There's plenty of nice drinks at the Chinatown food court

      • +2

Girlfriends LOVE date night at a food court!

  • What do we get for $10?

    • +13

      10x the above

    • I'll give you two bunches o five for your $10

    • +13

      $9 change.

  • $1 oysters at Eu De Vie in Darlinghurst on Friday nights

  • Mizuya Japanese restaurant on George Street close to Town Hall has $1 green tea and vanilla ice cream cones before 5.30pm.

    • Do you have to sit down and order other stuff?

      • No, the ice cream is behind the bar, can be a one off order. Enter through the entrance on the left, walk down the stairs and you will see it. My wife loves the green tea one, I don't, it's more of an Asian thing.

        • So you can get 10 at one go if you like…

        • @joeno: Yes you can if you want. At least used to be, haven't been in a while. Check it out.

    • +5

Personally, I have boycotted Mizuya due to unconscionable hiring practices. For a reputable eatery in such a prominent position, paying employees $10 per hour for late night shifts in cash with no loading and abusive management is unacceptable. I have no proof, other than what a friend who used to work there has told me about the place, but it's worth mentioning.

Any $1 whole chicken, lobster, mud crab and abalone on promotion?

    • You can get all of this for free in the wilderness except for the chicken. However, I do know a spot where you can find brush turkeys regularly

    • You could get crab for free?;)

      • Yes but the cream is expensive and you'll need to buy new towels.
A friend from another school told me.

  • +8

Just so people know, $1 dogs at the soda factory is with the purchase of a drink or full priced menu item

    • so to get 2 hot dogs for 2 dollars, do you need to buy 2 drinks?

      • +1

No it shouldn't be that way. I bought 3 hot dogs (they're quite small), with a single drink. The last time I was there, you only had to buy a single drink to get the discount deal and I don't remember a limit on the hot dogs (nobody at the time bought more than 4 though).

However, if you were to go up to order more hot dogs, you would have to buy another drink.
