    No EB games :(

Aldi had ultimate cards a few days ago :(

    • -1

      People still shop there?

      • -1

        Based on your username I’d gather a guess you’re a Gen Z or a late Millennial…

Perhaps you’d care to define what you mean by:

        ‘People’, ‘still’, ‘shop’, ‘there’, ‘?’

        • I'm an exceedingly rare millennial falcon with a property I bought back in 2019. I am now a 30+ yr old boomer.

          • -1

@donman92: Noice👍 for you and that’s great side info.

            BUT

as IS typical of Gen Z or late Millenial, they tend to deflect and avoid answering the question asked to them.

      • “But I’m level 5 and the cute emo girl who works there gave me eye contact once!”

        • -3

“But I’m level 5 and the cute emo girl who works there gave me eye contact once!”

Ah ~ classic self projection right here folks

          • @YoursTruly: Why would you buy from EB?

            • @DryScissors: Why not?

I don’t pay RRP (price match), I buy using discounted gift cards, I don’t have to wait for delivery, I get amazing customer service, and it’s close by.

Has TCN fixed the hacking issue?

    • Looks like it according to this update video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wq5Wjlx2mv8

      • +2

Only the card manufactured after they fix the issue is safe. The hacker may have already saved the card and PIN

        • -2

pretty sure it will only tell you the pin if the card is activated

          • +4

@bgbrendan: The PIN is on the card so that the PIN won't change. If they tested the pin before TCN fixed the issue they can use your card

            • @RichardF89: Is there a way to know which cards are manufactured after the fix? I plan to buy now and then wait for black fri sale. It seems to be very difficult to get the money back if there is an issue. Charge back is within 30 days (i think). I much prefer ultimate gift card. The last stack of cards that i bought last month were completely sealed off and the check out guy had to peel off the packaging to scan them. This somewhat prevents the hacker to take photos of the cards. However, the variable has never gone on the 20x offer.

    • It's not 100% guaranteed. Their card number actually isn't that unique - only the last few digits are randomised which is not sufficiently safe. Given the system's previous vulnerability, it's very likely that hackers have already run through heaps of card numbers and PINs. The only solution is to sell new packaging with card numbers that have never been in the verification system before.

  • Hopefully TCN has allowed us to convert cards to digital again.

  • Can I buy an iPhone 17 at JBhifi after purchasing the card? This would give me a 10% discount? Can anyone tell me how to do this?

    • +7

You can buy 2x $500 TCN Teen per day. Get as many as you need, then take them to JB Hi-Fi and use them in-store.

$2000 phone = 4x $500 TCN Teen. You don't get 10% off back in cash, you get it in your everyday rewards wallet as money off in future shops.

So for $2000 worth of those cards, you'd have $200 balance in your woolies balance.

      • +1

        Got it, thanks heaps

  • I’m planning to buy iPhone 17 from JB Hifi. Does anyone know how many gift cards can I stack on 1 order?

    • Unlimited online and instore

    • +4

In-store: no one has run into a limit enforced by the checkout. The OzBargain record is 99 in one transaction.

Online: you cannot use the physical TCN gift cards from this deal directly on the JB Hi-Fi website, as these gift cards do not support online transactions at JB Hi-Fi (or any other retailer). However, you can go to the TCN website and exchange the TCN gift card for a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card that is emailed to you. No one has run into a redemption limit for JB Hi-Fi gift cards on the JB Hi-Fi website; the OzBargain record is 51 in one transaction.

Keep in mind that TCN gift cards and JB Hi-Fi gift cards cannot be used on JB Hi-Fi's various commercial portals (e.g. JB Hi-Fi Business).

    • +7

An update on my last comment…

It turns out that TCN has recently turned off the ability to exchange a TCN gift card for a JB Hi-Fi gift card. If JB Hi-Fi is still in-store only when you are ready to redeem these gift cards, that means you must go to a JB Hi-Fi store to redeem your TCN gift card.

      • The easiest thing to do would be the purchase the iPhone in-store.

      • You could instead try to use the TCN gift card to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card, but the issue is that this is against both the JB Hi-Fi gift card policy and the TCN gift card terms and conditions. I doubt there is anything in the JB Hi-Fi checkout that will automatically stop you from doing this, so it should be up to staff to police this; some will stop you, and others will not care.

      • +1

Do you know why they have turned it off?

        • +2

For obvious reasons: that's card scratchers' favourite shop.

        • +2

I do not know for certain, but I am happy to speculate.

It most likely has something to do with the recently-exposed vulnerability (and the other known vulnerability a lot of people are over-looking).

JB Hi-Fi is a popular merchant on these multi-retailer gift cards (if OzBargain is anything to go by), due to the following:

          • JB Hi-Fi sells a large range of products, including Apple products, Android smartphones, Windows laptops, games consoles, home appliances, etc.

          • JB Hi-Fi allows you to redeem a large (and likely unlimited) number of JB Hi-Fi gift cards in one transaction.

          • JB Hi-Fi has a large number of physical stores all across Australia.

Fraudsters targeting these gift cards would probably favour JB Hi-Fi for the first two reasons, although they would be likely purchasing Apple products, as those would hold their resale value much better on the second-hand market when compared with an Android smartphone, etc when they try to obtain cash for their goods.

I suspect The Good Guys is not impacted by this change (even though they sell a similar range of products), due to the fact that you can only redeem a maximum of three The Good Guys gift cards in one online transaction.

          • +3

@WookieMonster: Woah thats pretty significant news especially since JB Hi-Fi was one of the best reasons to buy these gift cards and that there was virtually no limit on online purchases - it sure made big purchases spread across alot gift cards easier

            • @KiwiBloke:

It turns out that TCN has recently turned off the ability to exchange a TCN gift card for a JB Hi-Fi gift card.

Wow that's very disappointing! I much prefer this method - buying the cards in store and immediately swapping them to JB cards online so that they are locked in as JB cards rather than having the physical TCN cards sitting around and opening myself to the risk that the card might be 'hacked' in the meantime.

          • @WookieMonster: Makes sense I guess!
Thanks. So the only option for jb hi fi would be to buy in store then?

            • +2

              @Jazzzy-b: Right now, yes.

If the TCN website still lists JB Hi-Fi as in-store only at the time you want to use your TCN gift card, yes.

Nearly all TCN multi-retailer gift cards redeemable at JB Hi-Fi used to be in-store only when they were first set up years ago, and there were times a few years ago when the online redemption option would be switched on and off (usually around Black Friday), so it is not completely surprising for me to see it being switched off now.

              • @WookieMonster: So just like with ultimate giftcards, would it be possible to buy TCN gift cards and then go to Jb and buy apple gift cards from them(if the staff doesn’t notice of-course) / if its possible to add them to applepay like ultimate giftcards ?

                • @Harsh223: If the staff do not notice / do not care about what you are doing, you should be fine. Keep in mind though that swiping is a very unusual way to redeem a payment card these days, so the act of swiping may set off a staff member (which happened to me once).

These physical TCN gift cards do not officially support being added to a mobile wallet directly, because there is nothing about mobile wallet support on the website for these TCN gift cards (other than some ambiguous page about Apple Pay and the TCN app).

@timedzone, if someone uses the link from your comment below, can they get a digital TCN gift card that can be added to a mobile wallet, or is that link only for exchanging to a retailer's digital gift card?

                  • +1

@WookieMonster: That's the TCN redemption link for card number and PIN-based digital cards usually distributed by 3rd party vendors (as versus the card.gift hashed digital cards), which are essentially cardless eftpos cards. You can probably redeem them successfully on a POS terminal if you construct the correct track2 data to a card as TCN cards don't use the equivalent of CVV, unlike the Westfield eftpos cards.

Physical cards are essentially in the same database once registered, so the link allows you to do the same things to them. You could (probably still can) use that link to exchange for a digital card but I don't think there is still any point doing it now. TCN started a massive migration back in July and now all new TCN digital cards (BIN 5121 62), regardless of brands, are strict whitelist based cards working at listed merchants only instead of the old 5275 28 MCC-restricted cards. I think only a small number of Ozb community was aware of that, but we've caused enough losses for TCN to implement a blanket ban on Shopback, causing collateral damage to Shopback pay.

I haven't done it myself for quite a while and have no idea if that link still works for digital exchange with all the funny/crazy things TCN has done lately. Maybe give it a try with a leftover card but I remember seeing comments about possible problems and you might need to call them.

                  • @WookieMonster: @WookieMonster: So they don't allow/like you to purchase Apple gift card using physical TCN cards in-store these days, at JB-Hifi? I have some balance in my Apple account just want to top up some money to be able to order a new Iphone from there.

            • +3

@Jazzzy-b: You can try if https://cardactivate.com.au/actions/tcndigitalredemption still allows you to swap for a JB card. It still shows up as an option but I haven't gone ahead with the swap, so no idea if it actually works. Register your card first.

              • @timedzone: It works. Thanks!

              • @timedzone: This did not work for me. Tried with a $500 Teen variable card, and also my friends $50 Him card.

Just letting you guys know that it seems like not a guaranteed solution.

                • @despavr: I just tried with a $50 Teen card. Was able to select JB as the store for online purchasing, and added my details, submit and confirm, then a message saying “Error submitting request. Please try again later.”
Has anyone else had any luck? I’m going to try on my desktop, maybe turn off Adblock or sth.

Edit: I was wrong, I had tried with a HIM card. I didn't get beyond adding the card number and PIN with one of the TEEN cards…
Edit 2: More lies…I ended up getting to the same stage with one of the Teen cards, so still no luck. Might contact them as they suggest.

                  • @sal_chi_cha: See my comments below. Only 50212510 card works. Now almost all variable cards and some of 50/100 are 50212512. TCN has basically deployed a new backend to stop people from doing funny things to their cards :) They still carry the same name/branding but are actually very different products.

                • +1

@despavr: For var TEEN cards, you probably got a 50212512 card, which does not work with this link. Only cards with 50212510 works.

      • They still allow gift cards swap for "the good guys". Not sure how many gift cards "the good guys" is accepting on their website though.

        • +2

I did this last week, swapped $100 cards to use on Good Guys website

GG website accepted 3 and displayed the field to enter another so I swapped 1 more $100 TCN card then entered it on GG website only to get an error message about a maximim of 3.

  • Can these be purchased using the Vanilla Visa cards from this week's Coles deal? Or will it be declined at checkout?

    • Also wanting to know

    • Whats the deal? i guess I missed it, can you please share the link

        • So can we use the coles mastercard to purchase these at woolies.??

          • +1

@Jazzzy-b: It should be fine to use the Visa gift cards from the Coles deal, older Vanilla Visa gift cards, or Coles/Vanilla Mastercard gift cards as a payment method for any of the gift cards on sale in this deal (assuming staff do not stop you).

The FAQ linked at the bottom of the deal description contains an entry that tries to keep track of reports of whether a Vanilla Visa gift card or Coles/Vanilla Mastercard gift card works when purchasing a range of gift cards at Woolworths. As you can see from the table in that entry:

            • I have never seen any reports for DoorDash gift cards at Woolworths, but considering it is a retailer-specific gift card, there is a very good chance that Woolworths' checkouts will have no issues with this.

            • No one here has reported anything about TCN multi-retailer gift cards or TCN experience gift cards since August 2025 (where you could use a Coles/Vanilla Mastercard gift card as a payment method). I have no idea if Woolworths has changed something in their checkouts recently to automatically stop you from using one of those gift cards to pay for one of these.

  • Hopefully this isn't a dumb question - if I want to get the 20x Everyday Rewards points bonus, do I need to go in store or can I get these cards online? For example, via https://giftcards.woolworths.com.au/the-teen-card/p/the-teen…

Just asking because the last time this deal was available, I struggled finding a variable gift card to buy and had to resort to getting a couple $30s haha

    • +3

"Available in-store only at Woolworths Supermarkets and select Woolworths Metro"

      • +1

        D'oh, missed that. Thank you!!

  • Thanks OP

  • +1

Dammm it I hate walking around freezer section opening doors searching… oh well…

Actually I was hoping to buy from apple directly for my phone.. but perhaps JB this time around.

    • Anyone using freezers to stash GC's clearly isn't a strategic thinker, as that's not the best location for them.

  • I had previously purchased Good Food Gift Card (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/922194),
But can only be used in certain restaurant. ( tried using in sushi , bakery , charcoal chicken shop but transaction did not go through)

May i know if TCN Restaurant would have the same limitation as below link shows that both can only be used for MCCs 5812 and 5813 ?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/gift_card_deals_retailer_f…

Which of these are woolies selling ? TCN Restaurant gift card (eftpos) or TCN Restaurant gift card (Mastercard) ?

    • tried using in sushi , bakery , charcoal chicken shop but transaction did not go through

That would be due to the TCN Good Food gift card being more restricted in where it can be redeemed.

A sushi restaurant and charcoal chicken shop should be assigned MCC 5814, and a bakery should be assigned MCC 5462 (which are both blocked on TCN Good Food gift cards).

May i know if TCN Restaurant would have the same limitation as below link shows that both can only be used for MCCs 5812 and 5813 ?

Officially speaking, the TCN Restaurant gift card only works at MCCs 5812 and 5813, and I think the physical (eftpos) version is actually limited to those MCCs.

If you exchange the physical (eftpos) version for the digital (Mastercard) version, it should also be usable at more places (e.g. 5814 - Fast Food Restaurants, 5462 - Bakeries).

Which of these are woolies selling ? TCN Restaurant gift card (eftpos) or TCN Restaurant gift card (Mastercard) ?

Woolworths sells physical versions of TCN Restaurant and Good Food gift cards, which operate on the eftpos network. However, you can go to the website for these gift cards (linked in the deal description's big table) and exchange the physical version for a digital (Mastercard) version.

      • So if i'm not mistaken, you can convert physical restaurant gift card online to the digital version and then use it at any fast food restaurant via apple pay?

        • +1

Yep, I did that myself yesterday.

    • $50 ones are so annoying with leftovers, im waiting for buy $500 * 4 next promo up.

      • do they do $500 or variable cards sometimes?

  • Will these work if I am buying apple giftcards at jb-hifi ?
(ultimate giftcards do work as long as I add them digitally on my phone and then go buy using them) never used TCN cards before

Ps: for Ultimate giftcards as long as the staff doesnt care its fine , the Pos doesnt reject it

    • On paper its a no

      • But if the staff doesnt notice, will it work?

        • Technically yeah, but if they notice halfway not sure what they would do lol

    • It's entirely based on luck.

  • Does anyone know how to check balance on these cards? The check balance link on the TCN website hasn't worked for me for a while now (redirects to home page). Hesitant to buy if this is an ongoing issue

    • +1

try incognito mode, hotspot (or from phone) etc….this is definitely your network/pc issue

    • The app has worked for me for using restaurant cards. I usually finish using other cards as soon as possible so no idea about others.

  • With the restaurant card, how do people use up the balance? For example if you have say $2 left? It’s not often you can buy something for $2 when at a restaurant- lol

    • +1

Easiest way is to just post your card details here and learn from the transaction record :)

    • +3

Buy a 50c soft serve from McDonald's. Or 30c sauce from kfc

    • $2 is not left over lol

  • looks like they now have a limit on the $50 TCN Gift card (2 cards max)

  • does anyone know if I can use the teen cards to buy a Apple Card from jb ?

    • pretty sure they won't allow you to

      • Be quick and just buy 1, by the time they noticed you've aldy paid lol.

  • I tried today and it doesn't work

  • Hi - Successfully bought 5 x $500 'Teen' cards from my local Metro Melbourne based Woolies today. Forgot to break it down to $1000 each, so missed out on $150 (I put $2,500 all in one go, maximum rewards is 20,000 points). The assistant had to keep re-entering store approval PIN due to the large amount FYR.

Then after successfully used the vouchers at JB (Melbourne Central).

    • Yeah the max 2 cards is a bummer for the variable. Silly me did not read the limit also applied to the GIFT $100 card so I missed out on $20…but overall it has been a good saving :-)

  • Got some cards hacked (bought 1st October and used in full on 4th October). Tried to use them today and all balances $0.
    Be careful out there everyone.

No numbers were scratched off. No evidence of tampering. Bought in Melbourne, VIC, and used up in NSW.

Total of 3 gift cards, 2x $500 and 1x $3xx.xx (they obviously knew the exact amount and can check the balance somehow).

    • That's scary, i wonder if my cards are safe, they were all behind the counter when i bought them.

      • Mine wasn't. So my bet is that yours has a higher chance to be safe than mine. In saying that, I'd use them sooner than later.

    • I would have thought these hackers took physical photo of these cards. It sounds like it is all done automated. Was planning to buy some today for the upcoming black fri sale. I guess i might have to pass. :(

  • Totally forgot they applied the limitation of 2 for TCN Gift $100 as well. Before they only apply 2 as limitation for the Variable Teen one.
Any people have same issue and can get the bonus points for the extra cards you guys buy? Thank you.
For example if you buy 7, would they offer 20x points later for that 5 cards extra?
