Apple Pay now supported for all ANZ cards

I saw this became available overnight, the first bank to offer this in Australia. Previously only available with AMEX issued cards.

Just added my ANZ black cards (Visa and AMEX) and can't wait to try this out from my watch.

  • Great stuff ANZ. They have the news plastered all over their Twitter feed: https://twitter.com/ANZ_AU?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5…

  • Has anyone ever used Apple Pay? The one time I tried to use it a few months back at the petrol station but the system said "show card". Kind of defeats the purpose.

    • Do you mean you had to physically show your card after you used it?
It shouldn't do that, it should act like any PayPass/PayWave card

      • Thats what I thought..

  • had been thinking of switching to ANZ for a while - they are better located at the local shopping centre for starters.

this pushed me over the edge. i'll be opning an account today

  • So tempting to jump!

  • I still don't fully understand the in's and out's of ApplePay. Is it a straight up convenience service? Or is it something you have to pay for, like when using PayPal?

    • Straight out convenience. Double click a button on my watch and hold my watch against the eftpos terminal and done. No need to get wallet out and fumble with cards.

      • Sounds good then. C'mon Commonwealth Bank, get with it!

Finally! Card attached nicely this morning.

I just want the new apple watch to come out. (not worth buying the 1st gen one now)

    • Really? Why? What are you looking for in the new one?
I have the first gen and it's great - probably wouldn't get second gen unless there's some new feature that is very compelling but I wouldn't buy it just because it was thinner as it's fine as it is. Nor for battery life as I get through the day with 70% remaining anyway.

Just a tip if you're opening up an ANZ everyday access account that if you deposit 2k+ a month into it, you can ask to get the monthly $5 account service/admin fee waived.

    • Good tip. Also works if you have >$50k balance across savings accounts including online savings accounts. You just need to ring them up and ask.

Seriously people still pay bank fees on personal accounts?

      • seriously, chill.

The bank still charges it. so its a tip.

  • Paid for lunch - worked a treat

  • I would never support a bank that pays one gender more than the other.

    A total disgrace.

    http://www.women.anz.com/at-anz/sanctioning-our-super-specia…

In NSW, the Anti-Discrimination Board granted ANZ a 10-year exemption for the extra super contribution under section 126 of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. The President of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Board, Dr Stepan Kerkyasharian AO, advised ANZ that he considered that the proposed scheme “would improve gender equality in ANZ’s workforce” and he commended ANZ for the initiative.

^^ Quote from an old guy trying to justify his job.

    • It's only a $500 difference per annum, so marketing more than anything else.

      (I didn't neg you)

  • I've been waiting for this forever ever since my experience with cash by optus. now I have an iPhone, no longer works because cash by optus only works for android so this was great news, no more wallet required yay

    • cash by optus works with the wrist band on os x - not that it matters as Applepay craps all over cash by optus

  • I used this at Coles (ANZ black AMEX) for $255 from my Apple Watch and it didn't ask for a pin. Pretty cool.

It's not for every card, as MasterCard is not supported at this time.

  • what's the benefit of using apple pay? would you leave your wallet at home? or just carry a lighter version of your wallet (+ a powerbank)?

    • i ca leave my wallet at home when running - as a matter of fact i can even leave my phone at home and use my watch. i can use bluetooth headphones from my watch and pay for my after run coffee using my watch.

      • yeah, that's the only time i can see the real benefit for this (but to be honest i rarely would need to buy something when running).. am i missing something? was made out as being a gamechanger.. it is kinda cool, but what are the real practical benefits?

        • it's the security that it has that i think is the game changer. the card number is not stored on the device, instead it is a token that ties to your card. if someone somehow finds a way to intercept the transmission of the card no it will do them no good as the security code chages each tome a purchise is made.

        • @Tejas57: i guess that's a benefit, but i'm pretty sure i'm covered even if someone stole my card and started using it.. which in itself is a fairly rare case.. not trying to hate on this, but wanting to understand why so many people want Apple pay.. I'm an Android user myself and have had it available for a while.. used it a few times and stopped.. so wondering if it will be any different with Apple (even though i'm sure the whole apple experience is so much better)

If only the AMEX Apple Pay promo is available with the ANZ issued Amex! https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/242570

That would make the whole thing even sweeter! :P

meh, apple pay is overrated, Commbank has that tap thingy on android for ages, tried it out few times but taking my wallet out of the pocket work out faster, don't have the smartwatch so can't comment on that.

You can't diss it if you haven't used it.

Using a native pay system (accessed on locked phone or watch) is totally different to having to launch and use an app
