Do so quickly before they change the price to stop us professional bargainers!

  • I have gone through a few bands now :( it sits on my desk now but there was a firmware update that improves it's features such as not having to set it before going to sleep

  • Congrats on post 1000 MM :)

  • C on the K MM!!

Might be all of the Fitbit range on special at HN. The Charge HR is down to $147

    • Thanks! Bought a Charge HR after eyeing one for months.

Thought I'll give a little review on this.

I've been wearing this for some 9 months now and I think it's better to save up for a better fitness band. Here are my thoughts.

    The Cons.

    • The band and its clip-on buckle is annoying in that it will catch on clothing - such as putting a backpack on and the strap sliding past your wrist. (try it, you'll see) This is THE biggest concern for the Fitbit Flex.
    • If you rely on alarms (like I do), recharge the thing before you forget. There's no 'low battery' warning at all, meaning most will forget about wearing a dead band for a while (and forget to wake up as well).
    • EVERYTHING is done on the phone! To see the precise number of steps, change the alarms or view the battery level is done on the phone and is synced via Bluetooth (AND wi-fi, which is ridiculous), which brings me to my next point…

    The Pros

    • …the band does not require an active connection for it to work. You'd only need to sync it with the phone ever 4-5 days to get things updated.
    • The vibrating alarm is my favourite feature - it's quite powerful for its size and even better…
    • …the tracker itself is almost the same size as a fish oil tablet! It's great for customisation as there are no electrical components throughout the band.
    • Step tracking is quite good and reasonably accurate - compared by going through the motions everyday (same route, same distance).
    • Looks plain enough to complement a regular watch (as opposed to wearing two watches, such the functional, yet ugly red Pebble Time and some stylish but simple McAffluent watch).

    And an odd feature

    • You can't turn it off. Ever. (unless it's 100% out of power) There are no buttons on it and charging is done with the propitiatory plug (with USB on the other end). Thankfully, a 3rd party ebay-sourced charger will do the trick.

Overall, it does its job of tracking steps and waking me up, but its nuisence with its connectivity and band construction makes the Fitbit Flex a less-than-stellar purchase, even for $66.

    • great little review, cheers for that

      • You're welcome. Feel free to ask any questions, guys!

    • I got one through the Uni Tasmania online study thing.
I don't bother wearing it on my wrist, but rather have it in my pocket - this measures my leg movements when I am pedaling on a bike, whereas it does not when on the wrist.

Also, I wear a watch (to tell me the time) - this model Fitbit does not have a display that can show the time, so cannot replace my watch.
Other models (more expensive) do have watch function as well as other features….

    • Excellent review.

However, I get a low-battery warning. If the dongle is plugged into my computer, whenever I'm nearby it will sync invisibly, and when the battery is low, my phone pops up with a warning and I get an email warning too.

It does require syncing, which can be a little annoying.

I've found the web interface better than the phone interface too.

I wear mine alongside my analogue watch. It's thin and unobtrusive enough.

    • dont't forget it is fully water proof so you can wear it in the shower unlike others which are not recommended to be showered with.

  • is this worth spending the extra 40 dollars over a xiaomi one?

    • I don't think so, then again I've never owned a Xiaomi one. If it does fail, it's better to lose $25 than to lose $66 anyways.

    • Nope.

    • i have both. xiaomi 1s is way more convenient, i havent charged it since i got it last month and its still going. you can only set max 3 alarms on XM, if thats a factor for you but i find the heart rate feature to be a nifty novelty :)

  • This or xiaomi? I wonder how fitbit can still charge this much money when lots of competition coming its way

  • hows battery?

    • +1

About seven days - wearing it 5 days a week. I'd normally charge it every 5-6 days to make sure the battery doesn't die on me (and fail to wake me up).

      A solid week for me.

Would JB HIFI price match? Have a gift card to use….

  • I want something for tracking distance and time when walking my dogs and don't want to carry a phone, will this do that ok?

    • Yep, it'll track the distance and there's no need to carry the phone at all. You'd only need to sync it at the end of the day/week to see the stats.

For time though, it'll only count the 'active' minutes - 'active' meaning the band is shaking at a faster rate, a la running. It won't if you're walking.

      • Ok, so would be better off with a i.e. Apple watch that has a timer too?

        • I think the Apple watch is waaaaaaaaaaaay too expensive for what it is.

But yeah, a watch like that would be much better than the Fitbit Flex. It'll have more functionality (including a timer).

  • Thanks
Was able to price match the earlier mentioned Charge HR model for $147 at JB HiFi Ocean Keys.
