Free Song - Racer by Giorgio Moroder @ Google Play

720

Was listening to the album Random Access Memories by Daft Punk, searched around and found this free track. By the same person as featured on the third track.

No idea how long it's been free, or will be free for. Listed it as free for one week.

  • Free trial only?

    • It's free

It does say free trial but scroll down to the actual song and it says free.

      • Good stuff.
Don't know how I missed that……getting low on rewards credit.

Quite a lot of reviews about clipping in the song, so maybe try before you add to library.

It's been free before, nearly two years ago. See https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/146076

    • Thanks for pointing it out. I did do a quick search, but a result two years ago was a little too far down the list. :p

After that post I later learned that this track was the soundtrack for the Chrome Experiment web based game, of the same name, Racer https://www.chrome.com/racer

Given the association with Google and this track, I imagine it's always been free on GP.

OP, you should keep digging into Giorgio! He is a true innovator, and has had a huge part in shaping the last 40 years of music. Without him, there would be no Daft Punk! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giorgio_Moroder

Giorgio Morodor is truly a pioneer and massive influence on so much music. More people should know his name but they definitely know his music.

I'm old so I can still remember most of the words to "Together in Electric Dreams". From 1984 and not too different from some of today's electronic music.

Well I must be older than you because I remember his release of "Son of my father" back in 1972. I wanted the version by Chicory Tip that was played on the radio but someone gave me a compilation album with Giorgio Moroder's version (it was the original version).

        • But do you remember the movie? You may have purposely erased it from your memory (oh what a pertinent comment).

Donna Summer - I Feel Love is probably his defining song. You need to play it loud and properly listen to it, it's amazing.

  • I didn't like random access memories, I still listen to all the old stuff

I still remember "the duel" which was used in the Electric Dreams movie, where the neighbour was competing against/playing with the computer. It's an 80-s version of Johann Bach's Minuet.

OP reminds me of when people were buzzing about Kanye giving a bit of air time to some unknown guy called Paul McCartney.

    • Haha. Pretty much, but hey we all got to start somewhere. Any albums to recommend? I've bookmarked the Philip Oakey @ Giorgio Moroder album.

  • This many upvotes for a single song? There's so much free, legal music out there now, especially if you stream. Plenty of mixtapes free for download too

  • Great song if it's the one I'm thinking of..

I heard the drum solo at the end was done in about 2 takes!

Edit: nope, was thinking of the one on random access memories where they interviewed him but he didn't know they would put it in a song.
