Bluetooth headset for phone to work on PC?

Howdy

We're using Cisco softphone at work with these bulky things which costed $400/ea! These are awesome but costs even more and it's hard to get the approval to replace for the entire team.

I was wondering if I get something like this which is intended for a mobile phone, would it work on the PC? In Cisco softphone configuration you just select which device you want to use as microphone and speaker, once I connect it via BT it should appear as a device and allow me to use it yes?

P.s. I don't need the answer button to pick up a call if that wouldn't function as the softphone program pops up to foreground and I can just click pickup and end call as necessary.

Thanks heaps :)

  • For call centres, noise cancellation is a big feature and voice clarity is also important so might want to contact Jabra or Plantronics for possible solutions that might for you. Headsets with two to three dedicated mics will be the best as there's at least one microphone that picks up ambient sound and cancels it out using DSP algoriths.

It might not end up being a cheap solution though, especially in your use case.

The other thing to consider is battery life and comfort, something you may wish to discuss with your team.

  • I think the closest cheap solution would be the Plantronics Voyager Legend.

You can get a dedicated bluetooth USB adapter for it which is optimised for use with PC. Theres a Skype (Microsoft) certified one, and regular version.

Skype Optimised - Plantronics Voyager Legend UC B235-M

Regular version - Plantronics Voyager Legend B235 UC

Different version is just firmware optimisations. Plantronics recommend the Skype Optimised one since you are not missing enhancements apparently.

Think cheapest is from Amazon. Can come with a pocket charging case which has its own battery pack for charging and you can get a desktop charging stand for it.

Might be worth testing one out.
