  • nice! Best lense in the Nikon 1 range.

  • Would this be compatible with the d300? Have looked online but my knowledge of cameras is poor. Thanks

    • +1

Nope. This is for Nikon 1 series.
I have owned one Nikon J1, and was looking for this one. I am really attempted, although I am using Nikon D3300 now….

      • Yeah, I have a D5100, but I'm tempted to get a J5 with this lens for portability.

    • +1

This is a Nikon 1 lens designed to fit a camera with a small sensor than the D300. Even if there's some kind of mount it will give you dark corners at the least and more likely a circle in the middle of your frame.

    • +1

No. It's for a completely different camera system.

The equiv for you would be this:

Thanks everyone for your answers & help.

      • Apart from compactibility / portability, is there any point in buying a 35mm lens if I already have an 18-55mm lens (AF-S DX Nikkor f/3.5-5.6G VRII? )
        (I own a D3300).

        • +10

The f3.5-f5.6 bit is the important part. That's how wide the lens can open - smaller numbers mean bigger opening, which means it lets more light in. More light means you can use lower ISO settings (-> less noise), shorter shutter openings (-> less lens shake/movement blur) or both.

A side effect of a wider opening is you can get a more shallow depth of field (read: blurry background). Combine the flattering focal length and the ability to blur backgrounds gives you 'portrait lens'.

Also, because they are less complicated, primes (read: non-zoom lenses) are generally (a lot) sharper and have fewer distortions. Whether or not you will notice or care about these is another matter.

        • @jjcf: Thanks for the reply.

Yes, that pop-out quality is something I've achieved using a macro setting on my previous super-zoom Coolpix camera but have struggled to achieve with the D3300 and the stock lens I mentioned.

I had been thinking of buying a 55-200 or -300mm lens, but from your helpful comment a fixed 35mm might be more suitable.

          @sam buster:

Unless you have a special need for the 55-200mm or -300mm, i'd definitely suggest buying a prime as your next lens.

        • @damion: Thanks for the advice.

  • Big fan of this little camera, have all the affordable types of lens available, I believe there was a really expensive one I have stayed away from.

  • I have V1 and J2 it should fit both, right?

I am camera noob is it better than the one come with the camera?

    • Much much better…. for portrait and night shot.

    • Yes, better low-light, better DOF (but nothing to shout about compared to 35 1.8 or 50 1.8).

But only available with foot zoom.

      • Thanks, are their ex-display OK? A little bit worry.

        • My V1 is black and my wife J2 is pink but this one is white …

"imperfection such as a scratch, dent or rub mark" - lets hope its not on the glass!

    • Would be pretty easy to get a refund if there was :) (unfit for purpose) I was waiting for someone to question it :P

      • Btw, i'm not saying it not necessarily a good deal, i imagine that in most cases lenses would be on display behind glass cabinets - more just a comment of the vague descriptions on JB website.

        • +1

All good :) As I said, was waiting for someone to question it! Beauty about JBs means a refund would be easy

  • The only reasonably priced quality lens in the system.

  • Will this fit this deal??

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/171843

    • Yep, that's a Nikon 1 ;)

      • Perfect for my upcoming holiday :)

        • be mindful of the crop factor of 2.7, this lens won't be too handy if you plan to shoot a lot of landscapes on your holiday.

        • @JetLi:

Ive been using the 11-27mm Lens so far

        • @2jzzzz:

I reckon the 11-27.5 would be more handy/flexible for a holiday but I guess there's no harm adding the 18.5 to your lens kit at this cheap price.

  • Thanks. Was after another lens for my Nikon 1. Such a great little camera!

  • Thanks, getting one for my Nikon 1-V1

  • +2

Got one of these about a month ago with this $99 deal. I think it's an excellent lens. Mine was brand new I think.

Edit: I would have put up the bargain then, but didn't realise nikon 1 was very popular here.

  • Will it fit a nikon j1 10mm f/2.8 ?

    • It will fit a nikon 1 j1.

  • Delete

  • I just dont get it. Why couldn't Nikon just use the f mount for these instead of a completely new mount and incompatible systems…

    • +1

Because the Nikon 1 was designed with small size and light weight in mind. Nikon 1 has a 1" size sensor so all its lenses can be designed small and light. The F Mount was originally conceived for 35mm format film SLR or full-frame so those lenses will always be "big" compared to Nikon 1 lenses.

      FT1 adaptor my friend :)
      Yes, it's made by Nikon.

      • Any cheaper alternative to FT1? might as well buy a Nikon 1 V1 instead!

        • Probably, google is your friend there though.

        • Who is Google?

Will this fit in my Honda?
