EPL/Optus; other options

Hi all,

Been watching epl legitimately off foxtel go for the last couple of years but now thats finishing up this season, and optus' bullshit offering, what are some creative options ppl are thinking of using to watch epl next season?

options i've thought of so far;

  1. change phone plan or internet and pay $30-40 more a month
  2. buy a club channel but miss out of the other games
  3. vpn and buy a premierleaguepass?
  4. share an optus epl subscription with a friend who already has optus, between a couple of mates (up to 4 devices?)
  5. watch off streaming sites (but dont want to give my computer AIDS)

any other great ideas? i tend to mirror my laptop onto the tv and SD doesnt bother me.

    I've been streaming for… 8-9 years.

To prevent your computer from getting AIDS, use a condom.

    Kidding.

Have an ad-blocker, and check http://reddit.com/r/soccerstreams for streams.

There are some other sites that I used to use (sportlemon.tv, wiziwig.eu) which are ok as well, but ever since a friend gave me the Reddit subreddit, I've used nothing else.

A pretty well known stream is Bloodzeed - he streams most of the big games and it's always really high quality. Laggy sometimes though (not sure whether it's because of my connection or his or other). His streams are broadcast as an AceStream (you need AcePlayer). There's a wiki on the soccerstreams subreddit which "teaches" you how to do it.

If Bloodzeed or another good AceStream is not available, then use another stream that's been posted up that has been given a good number of upvotes. The better the stream, the higher it generally is (because people will vote it up if it's good).

Most of the other ones are your typical website ones where it's full of ads and a chat client on the side. That's where your adblocker kicks in.

This method highlighted above is definitely in no way perfect and there will be times you can't get a smooth stream, but I'd say 75% of the time you'll be able to get something watchable and 15% of the time you'll get something really awesome. The other 15% of the time you'll struggle to find a good stream.

In terms of all the legit ways, I've been out of the "legit" picture for far too long so I can't give you any advice.

    • Sorry I just realised I had a maths fail moment.

With the r/soccerstreams method I highighted above..

70% of the time you'll get something watchable
15% of the time you'll get something really good quality, smooth
15% of the time you won't be able to get a smooth stream no matter how many you try

These are all just rough estimates from my own personal experience.

  • Optus has really bent us over.

The pricing is ridiculous and the want us to change to Optus! Really.

I'm interested if there is any paid methods for HD stream as well.

    • agree @gamechanger. i hear getting past geoblocking and the 99.95 premierleague pass from new zealand is good

but just seems like a lot of effort

  • What options are there for someone who lives in a location with terrible internet speeds? :-/ Must we sail the high seas?

Satellite, which appears to be $250 installation then
      $40 mobile plan
      $20 satellite fee
      $15 EPL?
      TOTAL
      $75 per month

      Ouch

      • Thanks. The price is not the worst part. Optus probably would refuse to install satellite for us as they do have cable in our area, but having been an Optus customer in the past I know it is awfully unreliable and bad speeds. No doubt they will insist their cable internet is good enough for streaming. So frustrating.

EDIT: Never mind, I just reread the FAQ and it seems I CAN choose satellite if I want. It is rather expensive though.

Though I understand they bought the deal for a great price others weren't willing to pay for, this is a ridiculously terrible move and missed oportunity by Optus especially with interest in the EPL at an international high thanks to the Leicester story.

It's 2016; they should have gone for a $x/month with some periodical/seasonal passes for anyone like most other sports leagues. Perhaps add some perks alongside for Optus customers. If you're going to lock people out from watching their favorite sports league with such prices, don't be surprised if they resort to illegal streams or other methods instead of paying for your subscription.

I'll be watching pirated streams from r/soccerstreams; threads are made before matches and users post multiple stream links, the best are upvoted up and if they die can easily switch to another. If I miss a match, r/footballdownload is there to help.

EDIT: Just saw illumination has already mentioned r/soccerstreams :)

@terminal2k: Basketball. Best sport in the world; physically, tactically and entertaining! Don't you agree? No? Could it you have different opinions and taste that I should respect and accept? Oh..

        • You said a good sport, but mention Rugby?

        • @Tal_Shiar:

          yes I did

        • @terminal2k: what's the good sport?

        • @Tal_Shiar:

          rugby

my suggestion is find another thread. this wasnt a thread about if you like watching epl, so move along. 😃

  • With the premier league pass, if you set your VPN to be in Taiwan, would they remove the GST component so the cost is NZD$87 rather than NZD$100?

  • Got used to HD, is Optus offering any HD option, as I think Fetch is only SD?

    • correct, so all these options are shithouse. and the delayed coverage foxtel is offering is a joke. The score is usually plastered over the internet as it happens so delayed matches isnt a good enough option.
