It's bit (a lot of) hard work for a proper PhD. And then there are relatively easy ways of getting it done as well. But there are so many PhD candidates these days, and the way Universities are advertising for the Doctorate degree, it won't have much value left soon. I have found the degree is useful in your career if you want to enter acadamia as a tutor/professor. And you will need good publications for that to support your profile. Am pursuing the degree just as a personal goal…so that I can tick Dr box in the information forms anywhere I go..otherwise it has no benefit in my profession at all. :P
