What Watch Do You Wear?

Watches have a unique status as a Veblen good, and basically the only piece of jewellery that society will allow a man to wear.

Watches can be worn as a show of status or wealth, a show of fashion sense, or they can be worn to show the time.

As a community of dirty misers and professional bargain hunters I'm interested to know what watches we wear, and why?

Please state

  • Watches owned
  • Main watch
  • How much did you pay and was it from Ozbargain?
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Occupation/Industry
  • (Income)
  • Additional thoughts

I think this will be very interesting to see.

Cheers friends.

$18 Casio Databank Calculator Watch. Always wanted one when I was a kid in the 80's.. Definitely my favourite, even over fancy expensive watches

    • isnt it great to have all our friend's phone number on your watch. If only it could also dial the number from there….or you could pay 50x more for an iWatch.

  • Daiso "Blue Planet" 108yen at Daiso, Sunshine City, Ikebukuro, Tokyo.

All the style and elegance of the F-91W without the fiendish price tag.

  • Seiko 7N42-6130 Diver Quartz - been absolutely faultless and taken a beating.
    Georg Jensen Delta Dive.

  • Watches owned:

First mechanical watch: Seiko SRP188J1 (http://img.tarad.com/shop/y/yr-request/img-lib/spd_201203211…)
Second mechanical watch: Seiko SNZF21J1 (http://www.azwatch.cz/img/hodinky/se211-seiko-5-sports-mod-s…)
I much enjoy the Japanese made versions over the Malaysian ones.

    Main Watch:

    Seiko SRP188J1

How much did you pay for it:
SRP188J1: $400 AUD in Hong Kong.
SNZF21J1: $250 from Singapore, bought online.

    Age:
    21

    Occupation/Industry/Income:

  • Watches owned: SHD Agent watch, M8 Smartwatch
    Main watch: SHD Agent
How much did you pay and was it from Ozbargain?: Came with The Division CE, roughly $80
    Age: 36
    Gender: M
    Occupation/Industry: Software QA
    (Income): Above average
Additional thoughts: I'm a nerd, so I love the SHD watch. Has the cool lighty-up ring thing and a rubberised coating that watch repairers get a kick out of. Heavy, though.
The M8 is terrible, but I did pay < $20 for it. No vibrate and the message system is annoying.

  • I have a collection of Swiss and japanese Automatics. Wearing a TAG Heuer Grand Carrera Calibre 8 dual Time today, but had my Seiko Sumo on all last week. If I have to wear a suit I normally wear my Omega Aqua Terra, if i am travelling through different timezones i wear the TAG, if i am in casual clothes i wear the Sumo, a Magrette professional, a Seiko Monster or one of a couple of other watches i have. i have bought, sold and traded watches around a bit as well.

Watches owned: changes often, at the moment around 7 or so
    Main watch: Omega Aqua Terra
How much did you pay and was it from Ozbargain?: About $5500, was not from OzBargain but was via some contacts from a watch specific online forum.

I usually rotate between the Nighthawk and the Maratac.
    Current line-up:
    Citizen Nighthawk
Maratac Large Pilot original - looking to trade down to the mid-size.
    Omega Speedmaster Professional Mark II
    G-Shock
About to drop on a Steinhart Ocean One Vintage Military.
Interested in a Tudor Pelagos or Omega Speedmaster in the next few years.

  • Omega Seamaster 1120. Had it for 10yrs. Probably will be my 1st and last expensive watch. Buy once cry once.
