Have You Ever Had to Claim Anything under Warranty? What Was Your Experience Like?

Recently I got my Fitbit Charge HR of 6 months replaced directly by Fitbit due to battery issues (a full charge was only lasting me at most half a day!). I dropped them an email, they replied me within a day to confirm my details, then after that, they sent a replacement within the next two days. I was quite impressed with their service!

Just wondering if anyone had to replace anything under warranty. Did it go well for you or did it go terribly wrong? What's your story?

Comments

  • Samsung earphones broke. Went to Dick Smith store to claim warranty, told me to go samsung store.

Went to Samsung store at town hall sydney, told me to go back to the store I bought my phone from.

Went back to Dick Smith and was told that it's better to go to samsung store 'cause it's faster.

Told them that samsung told me to come here. Guy was like =.= and I was like =.=

    • Haha I'm guessing this was prior Dick Smith going into administration? Sounds like both representatives were just being lazy and passing the ball around. However, the Samsung representative have no reason to send you back to Dick Smith because it is true that it's faster to go through the OEM directly.

      • Yeah before they went into administration. Friend had earphones broken too, bought samsung phone from ebay major store. Went to samsung store and immediately got a replacement. I was so disappointed…

  • I had a Fitbit that I bought in the US and didn't have proof of purchase for. I emailed Fitbit asking if I could update the firmware or something to fix an issue I was having, and they offered to send me a new one. Great service! My only complaint is that they sent the tiny Fitbit in a huge postage box.

I've generally had good service from Apple too, except they they had to fix my iPhone 5 three times after not doing it right the first or second time (they kept damaging something else after fixing the previous issues). I ended up arguing for a replacement. The recall programs are very good (button issues on iPhone 5, battery on an old PowerBook, discoloured wrist rest on white Macbook, screen hinge on an Macbook Air). For the Macbook Air, the recall was done well outside of warranty and they replaced the entire screen section of the laptop.

  • Couple of logitech items .,.. destroy them and send photos they send replacements .. nice and easy bit repetitive info has to be given each time.

Fitbit x3 .. twice from Fitbit and replacement mailed out…. once from JB and they said they get a lot returned no questions asked .

Samsung - Hard Drive returned to sydney replacement received within a week. Nice and easy

JB Hifi - Speaker bought by my work, not needed and wanted to exchange…. they inspected it to death but let me exchange eventually

Sandisk Memory Card - Allowed to send it to them with a hole drilled through the middle as it was my phone memory card and full of personal stuff.

Adata Memory Card… asked to return to asia, I said no I want somewhere closer as I bought it from MSY (couldnt find receipt), I said nope cost me the same to return advised therm I wont use them again ever and 5 years later I haven't.

Backbeat Headphones…. twice returned to Officeworks as the rubber peels on the earpiece…. easiest place to return stuff just straight swop

Bunnings - few tools broke no questions asked straight swop.

As you can tell I use warranties as needed. Thats just some that I have done recently.

  • Westinghouse fridge- Was not cooling when I came back from holiday and turned it on. Had 6 months of extended warranty left so it was fixed by whirlpool. Still going strong after 5 years (9 years total)
Belkin Surge protector - I suspected that the switch was arcing so rang customer service and they replaced it with a new one.
Workzone (aldi) reciprocating saw - Stopped working. Customer service asked me to post it to a Sydney address. I got a replacement in about 2 weeks.
Samsung Plasma TV - Stopped working 6 months out of warranty. Rang Samsung and they offered to send a technician over for free but I would have to pay for parts. Technician came and repaired the TV and I was not charged anything. It is still going strong after 2 1/2 years.
Plantronics Bluetooth headset P90 - Reception problem, they sent over a new headset but this had the same issue. So I now have two headsets with the same problem. Did not bother to contact them again.
Acer laptop - Monitor bezel was loose around the webcam and webcam was not working intermittently. Rang Acer and thet adviced that I take it back to seller (MSY). MSY swapped it for another laptop.

  • If you want your warranty processed a little quicker, please keep the original packaging this will make the people doing to claim and sending it off much easier.
    IT retailer.

    • +1

Do you work for MSY by any chance?

They replaced it but insisted I include the packaging and refused to send me new packaging, kept mentioning their distributor like they were the reason things couldn't be easier.

Western digital 1tb portable hdd purchased from amazon.
Sent back directly to amazon, they refunded the unit as well as shipping fee. Also ended up being ahead because the aud dollar was above parity when purchased and i sent it back when our dollar was below .70! Cha ching!!

  • Have had an LG G4 replaced same day WIFI died (2 months after purchase) by JBHiFi.

Have also had nightmares where things have had to go back multiple times, like my Nikon D70 which had an intermittent shutter jam about 12 years ago - had to create a video to prove it was happening and threaten to take it to fair trading - in the end I got a new camera body but it took months.

Still having ongoing dealings over faulty firmware on Telstra Broadband (cable) gateway device.

  • Generally, I have had no issues with big Australian retailers such as TGG, JB Hi-Fi and others for claiming a warranty. They either sent someone to fix things up or gave me a brand new item.

  • I have had a few bad experiences with the cheap places, think Kmart… but two good experiences over the years have stood out. Many years ago, I took a Fuji digital camera to the Pacific Islands, got its fair share of wear over the time, and when the shutter stopped 'shutting', Fuji replaced it with a better model no questions asked. Same with the cable to my Netgear NAS more recently - posted free of charge within the week.
Compare that with HTC, who instead of any repairs, just sent back photos of supposed 'water damage' to a phone which could have only been caused by condensation on a poorly-made body…

    • That sucks. Fair enough that most phones should be kept away from liquid water but all self-respecting mobile phones should be built to tolerate a moist atmosphere. Which model was it?

  • Recently had the noise cancelling play up on a pair of 10 month old bose qc25s. I took them into the retailer i got them from (sydney hifi) and they sorted it out with no hassles. Had new headphones within the week. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them considering their after sales service.

  • Logitech Bluetooth speaker adapter started cutting in and out, lost the receipt and contacted Logitech directly. They asked me to send them pictures showing I had disabled the device (basically destroy it and provide evidence) and they sent a new one to me straight away.

  • Trying to get my G700s from Logitech replaced (2 of the 4 side buttons don't always register clicks). I bought it from the DSE eBay store over a year ago but the mouse has a 3 year hardware warranty. They sent me a case number and told me to go back to my place of purchase for a replacement, when I emailed them back explaining the situation with DSE they've since just completely ignored me. They've responded to none of the 3 additional emails I've sent.

Any advice here would be appreciated. Some people are saying they just had to send in photos of a destroyed device, I certainly was never offered that option.

    • Try going direct to logitech

      • +2

That is who I have been in contact with.

        • +1

Try sending them a message on the official Logitech Facebook page with details and how many times you have tried to fix it etc.

  • I have super bad luck, had dozens of items replaced under warranty (I treat my electronics extremely well, so just down to bad luck).

    Here's the notable ones:

Had my Astro A40s replaced twice, eventually got my money back and swapped to Sennheiser HD7s, which have been rock solid
Had my Seagate Barracuda 3TB fail (notorious problem) so had that replaced
Had my ASUS Xonar DG Soundcard DOA, had that swapped
Had one of my Acer Laptop's RAM Slots fail a few years ago, had the mainboard swapped by Acer
Had one of my Chromecasts fail after 3 days, had that replaced
Had my Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 fail after 6 months, had that replaced

Overall had very good experiences getting stuff replaced (except Razer, sent them the keyboard, took a month, and eventually they just told MSY to give me a new one).

  • Kmart- purchased a 68cm flat CRT from them number of years ago. On the 2 year mark the TV crapped itself.
Called Kmart and they organised for me to drop it off and got a full refund without any hesitation.

Harvey norman- wasn't the best service but got an exchange. Had an iPhone charger and wasn't charging, went back to the service centre and they swear black and blue that it works.
Put them on the spot that if it works I'll give them a hundred bucks, never seen a bloke run so hard to help me out until he realised it doesn't work….. The look on his face was priceless but eventually gave me an exchange.

Officeworks- best service I have had.
Out MF HP printer crapped itself after 6 months. Called office works and they did mention they received a bulletin that there was a known fault. After a small chat they organised a drop off and pickup of a replacement Canon MF printer.
The Canon unit couldn't get working on my network and after a small fluff around in the shop it was a deemed faulty unit and they said pick other unit and we will sort the price out.
So I went for another HP MF printer higher end one that was slightly more expensive but for the hassle they didn't charge me for the ink and difference.
They asl o called me after a few days to confirm everything works and was happy days.
Should of said that there was a problem and I needed the tech chick to come around and assist but yeh I don't think that would have gone down too well.

It really should be mentioned here that pretty much anything sold in Australia is warranted for a reasonable amount of time, regardless of what period of warranty the store / manufacturer claims.

    I've had:
3-4 year old iPhones replaced (about 3 of them) at the Apple Store (when they only had a 1 year warranty)
3 year old LG microwave repaired through LG customer service (1 year warranty)
3 year old Samsung home theatre repaired through Samsung customer service (1 year warranty)
4 year old LG TV repaired (panel replacement) through LG customer service (1? year warranty)
3 year old electric blanket replaced through David Jones (1 year warranty)
2 year old WD USB HDD replaced through Harvey Normal (? year warranty)
and probably some other small stuff.

In all cases I have listed I was initially told that the warranty had expired. Each time I kindly told them that under Australian consumer law this was not the case and usually that is enough to get the job done.

    • Even the consumer law gives you 2 years warranty? How did you manage?

      • Well you just state that you expect it to be fixed. If that fails,

"When I buy a (product) I expect it to last x+y years at least. Do you sell (products) expecting them to be broken after x years?"
Where x is how old the product is and y is whatever value you want to pull.

    • Oh, also 2.5 year old plastic dining chairs replaced with a set of 4 different chairs (a bit more expensive actually) through Domayne. Not sure how much warranty a chair was "meant" to have but there's clearly a design fault causing them to crack.

  • I can also attest to FitBit being awesome….When I first got mine I wanted an extra dongle + charge cable (they just sent me one of each as they didnt sell them here), more recently (Nov 2015) both my FitBit One (purchased 2013) and my sister's FitBit ChargeHR (Feb 2015) were replaced due to sync and battery issues respectively.

Asus, repaired an 11 month old monitor which decided not to turn on one day. They paid shipping both ways, was done within 2 weeks from memory, finding a box was not fun.

Nikon's 10-30mm recall was beautiful as well, they paid shipping, was back within 2 weeks. In my case they replaced my beaten up front cap and generic rear cap with genuine new Nikon ones. A friend found they they fixed her lens's damaged rear mount as well for no extra charges etc.

MSI, this is going a long way back (2008?) but they replaced the screen on my U100 Wind netbook (shudders at the memory of original Atom processors), they organised and paid for shipping both ways.

Going back even further (2005-ish), Kudo's to officework's extended warranty, my Compaq laptop stopped charging and required a new motherboard, it came back thinking it was a HP (same part) but the cost was covered for a 18 month old laptop, I did have to drop off and pick up the unit from the authorised repair centre. That extended warranty paid for itself on that repair. Didn't cover a new battery when I needed one though.

Currently having mixed experiences with Samsung with their top load washing machine debacle. They serviced it when the recall first happend (friendly technican came in and did the work) and then called me earlier this March to offer a replacement (apparently they had a change of heart and are trying to replace all the units out there), I had to call on them today to check the status. No stock of the unit, so they have upgraded me to the next size up (7.5kg model) and fingers crossed this one arrives. Should be a nice silver finished unit rather than a white plastic one.

My old (6year+) Hitachi LCD TV made in Japan stop working.

for the hell of it I decided to contact HItachi to see if anything was possible. Long story short I sent TV away for repairs and was sent back a brand new Hitachi (Made in China) LCD.

    Overall, can't complain

Not exactly a claim under warranty… but sort of..

Basically my Macbook Pro one day stopped working and would just get stuck on startup logo. Its past warranty so brought it to Apple to get serviced and they reckon the HDD needs replacing. So I paid them $300 for it.

Few days later I picked it up, and problem persist. They looked at it closer and found out the Motherboard is gone!! I thought I was gonna get asked to pay $1000 for the replacement.. but they replaced the Motherboard free of charge for me because they did not spot the problem in the first repair!

I know I would get screwed over if I were to service it with local IT repair company. But Apple really showed their customer service standard with this.

      HDDs don't cost $300.
      Even desktop motherboards don't cost $300 :\

They don't now, but you know when his laptop was replaced right?

      • Well…… thats inclusive all the labour silly.

  • Macbook Air 2008, claimed 1 month before AppleCare expired on 5/10/12.

Batteries had issues, also, edge of top lid was bent/issues with joint between screen and body.

Didn't have an Apple Store in Adelaide then, went to an official repairer

Batteries replaced, entire top half (screen + everything in the lid) replaced, all FOC as part of warranty.

As the macbook air was a top spec for the time (128GB SSD for 2008 model), it breathed at least 3 more years of life into it. Ran beautifully for basic browsing, RDP sessions. Of course I didn't push it to run games/photo processing software.

Finally gave up the ghost this year (7-8 years of life!!), getting chucked in and out of the car a bit too much.

  • Props to:

Shaver Shop: had a small issue with my shaver (one of the digits' lights kept on) after about 9 months. They just took it back and then gave me a new one saying they will sort it out with Philips.

Sharp: a convection microwave which was actually out of warranty - the turntable had stopped rotating. I took it to repair/warranty place and told them I thought it was reasonable to expect it to be working still after 3 years. They just repaired it no questions asked.

    More difficult:

Richemont (owner of Panerai, JLC, Cartier, IWC, MontBlanc, etc.): watch stopped working (under warranty). They said it took a large bump or something (did not think so). Just had to pay a bomb for the repair.

Bought a couch from Super Amart but after less than a year of owning it the seat would sag down quite a lot compared to when we first got it. We also noticed one of the cushion seats had lost some padding on one side from the inside (the seat cushions are stitched into the actual couch so we couldn't just replace those).

I contacted Super Amart and asked me to fill out a form, which I did and they sent over a 'couch doctor' who checked it out. He agreed it was quite a drop when sitting on most of the seats of the couch. He sent his report to Super Amart and they called me advising they would replace the couch! Though they didn't want the couch back which I thought was strange. I even asked if they could take it because it would be a bother to us to get rid of this couch but she insisted they couldn't take it.

We ended up selling the couch on Gumtree (of couse pointing out it's faults) and had Super Amart come around the next day to deliver our replacement couch. The guy comes up with the paper work and says we're here to drop off the new couch and pickup the old one. All I was thinking was you have got to be kidding me. So I told him how we were advised to get rid of the couch ourselves and Super Amart didn't want it back.

He got on the phone to the store manager which felt like went for 20 mins. He kept coming back to me asking if I knew the girls name of who I spoke to but I couldn't remember.

So he left me with our new couch though now we are experiencing the same fault we had with our old couch!

I have trust issues now because of it.

  • You just reminded me, I need to call MSY.

I bought a mouse from them (Corsair M65 RGB) about 5 months ago, and the middle click stopped working. To me, it is a vital feature so I took it back and they said they could ship it for repair and it'd take 2-6 weeks. That was about 8 weeks ago and I haven't heard anything (except that they didn't have it 4 weeks ago). If they don't have it when I call I'm going to demand a refund or immediate replacement, it's been very unacceptable so far.

    1. Bought a Dell laptop in 2010 and the drive was clicking when using. I called them and they sent a technian came to replace the HDD, no dramas at all.
    2. Went to a local Apple store to replace the baterry and had a friend who was working there gave me a new phone. I was so happy with the service Apple provided.
    3. Bought a Nikon D600 camera in Japan in 2012. There was a licking oil issue with the camera. I contacted Nikon Australia and they agreed to clean the sensor for me for free of charge. They were so kind because the camera is not international warranty, technically I need to send the camera back to Japan if I want to claim the warranty or faced any issues.
  • Sony z2 from jb.
First time the phone wouldn't turn off and would cycle the loading screen. Got sent away for a couple of weeks. When I got it back the issue wasn't fixed. Sent it off again for another month and they gave me a refurb unit. I found out that the waterproofing claim from sony was misleading as some moisture got into the camera module. This was sent away again for a few weeks and lo and behold another refurb unit. Issues arose again after a few months where the phone wouldn't charge properly. To send it away again for repairs would be the fourth time. So after arguing with a manager at the store I managed to get a refund.

Another one would be a sink mixer that broke. Tried contacting the retailer, Reno Boys, but they were unhelpful and surprisingly went out of business. After exchanging emails and photos with Dorff they couriered a new replacement mixer of my choosing (similar price to original). Pretty happy about how they dealt with this.

  • A few experiences, mostly positive.
Best was with JB Hi-fi. Belkin surge protector, with lifetime warranty, bought 7 or 8 yrs back (F9A723au3M-F). Issue with switch and sparking. Contacted Belkin directly. Really unhelpful, and asking to do all sort of meaningless debugging, and send them photographs. Finally agreed to repair it. Lengthy process to send it for repairs.
Went into JB Hi-Fi, showed the receipt. Checked the system, that model was no longer produced.
Refunded the AUD 200/- on the spot. Bought the better model, with AUD 135/-, and put the rest towards a video game preorder.
    Very happy with JB.

  • MSY

Purchased a ViewSonic Monitor only to find 3 dead-pixels. Great, ViewSonic has 0 dead pixel policy. Returned to MSY for testing and after some arguing they finally swapped it over. 2 Days later new monitor develops dead pixel. Contact Viewsonic for RMA number. Sure no problem. Return to MSY for refund. MSY manager claims I need the box to replace and wouldn't offer a refund. (which i know is B.S). I reminded them of consumer law, ironic thing is they had a poster from ACL because of their previous fines, no that didn't matter. Then they claimed they had no stock, and they would replace when i bought them back the monitor and the box when they received stock (lol). Never to be heard from MSY again.

In the end, ended up keeping the monitor as the screen was perfect apart from that one pixel and had no backlight bleeding. Didn't want to risk ending up with a worst monitor.

    • +2

I love the "you need the box" routine. Oh, you mean that $2.50 worth of cardboard I threw out has voided my warranty? I have to turn my house into a cardboard box fort so if I need to have something repaired down the track I can take the rumpus room extension off of my fort and return my item? Nice try, dickshit.

My understanding about MSY is that they have or had cheap prices because customer service was basically non-existent.

  • My Microsoft surface pro 3 screen broke while travelling. Claimed through travel insurance, they asked to get repair quote. Contacted Microsoft surface support over phone and they offered the option of out of warranty replacement. Courier arrived the next day to take it from work, courier returned 3 days back with a new machine. There was phone followup after arranging pickup, after they received the thing and after I have received the replacement. Another followup tomorrow is expected to check if everything is OK with the new machine. In the meantime I had a chat with surface support, not only was the guy on chat helpful but over the top, made be feel uncomfortable. Saying things like "I am like your personal assistant", "From now on it is my responsibility and I will make sure everything is all right" etc.

  • Back in 2010, I won a new Xbox 360 console - which was the Slim model and it was part of the VERY first batch of consoles manufactured.

It started to give out an E74 error (hardware failure) and that's when I contacted Microsoft. They said to ship the sole console back to them, where they'd pay for shipping. I sent it off and about 3 weeks later, I got a brand new one (but with no original box) - plus 1 month card of an Xbox Gold subscription, which is worth $10.

In short, I got a $10 reward for swapping a faulty Xbox 360 console for a new one.

Still i cant find any warranty better than apple and alienware. With apple most likely you just walk to the store without reservation and request to wait for any possible slot(Before 1pm), most likely the wait is less than 2 hour and after confirmation of your issue you get a refurbished replacement that feels like brand new. With alienware, for anykind of issues you have you will get next business days replacement in metro area. I have had 2 brand new mobo replaced for my Alienware 15 and all of them is done within 24hr of the first call to Alienware reps.

  • Bought a Samsung 65" 3D TV 2 years ago. 2 months later a lightning hit the house (thanks to Telstra), came through the Foxtel box and killed my TV and BR 5.1 surround (2 years old), my landline phone, and my Telstra router.

Was going to claim content warranty through Youi, excess is $500.

Called Samsung, they said they will arrange someone to come to the house and check the TV. He said it's not covered under warranty since it's a lightning/electricity problem. The guy was extremely nice, he said he will report it as faulty without mentioning the Lightning. He ordered a new main board and another board (pretty much all the guts), came back in 3 days and replaced them. TV back to brand new.

Didn't go with contents insurance as the excess and the increase in premium wasn't worth it to replace the BR ($600 brand new). Telstra and Foxtel send new devices and we called it even.

Prompts to Samsung for an awesome work. Couldn't be happier!

    Edit: I forgot!!

I bought a Samsung french door fridge from HN almost 5 years ago with a 5 years replacement warranty. 3 months before expiry it started leaking water into the draws. Went to HN, they arranged for a technician to check up the unit. He said he can fix it or I can get full store credit. I picked store credit and got a new fridge within 2 weeks. Another good experience.

Speaking of Samsung. Before my 65" TV I had a 64" plasma 3D Smart TV from Seconds World. Started getting a 1 single line of dead pixels in the middle of the screen. Contacted them, they picked the TV, called me in 3 days and said that it's too expensive to repair and that I have a full refund waiting for me in store. Went there, paid the extra $$ and bought the 65" LCD 3D Smart TB version :)

    Happy customer here!

The reason why the Guy repaired it without telling Samsung is so they can get the job.

If he hold Samsung the damage was caused by an electrical fault, Samsung would only pay for the call out fee but not any repairs, so it's in the repair guys best interest to fix it.

The repair guy effectively scammed Samsung.

      • I wouldn't have considered that but that's most likely what happened. Oh well, everyone wins except Samsung.

Xbox 360 - twice. Both red ring of death failures. Once was inside original warranty, the other was well outside, but they'd resigned to repairing any RROD issues no matter how far out of warranty they were, given the incredible failure rate. Both times all I had to do was pack it up securely and stick a label on. It went from me in Brisbane to them in Sydney, got fixed, and was back to me in under a week, with a free month of XBL in the box.

Nexus 5 from Google - just in warranty. Stuck lock button issue. Called up, 5minute chat with Google customer service, and had a replacement organised and return sorted.

Router from Computer Alliance. Just flat out failed just out of a years explicit warranty. Took it back to the shop, w/ box and receipt. Got a bit of a run around from them due to warranty. Held my ground because it could be reasonably expected that a $200 router would last more than a year. Ended up greasing the wheels a bit by "agreeing" to buy a $15 more expensive model (which I wanted anyway).

  • I've had two warranty claims recently. One was a Corsair PSU (excessive coil whine) and the other was a Logitech mouse (scroll wheel issue).

The Corsair PSU was replaced by the retailer within a week. Posted it to them and they sent me a new one.

The Logitech mouse had to be done via Logitech as Dick Smith couldn't replace it for me. Logitech requested I destroy it and send them photos and they sent a new one within a few days.

    I've been quite happy overall.

  • Have always had good experience with Apple. My MacBook Pro 15 had a back light bleed issue. Went to Apple and they agreed to change the display. The new display was even worse. Went back again and they agreed to change the display again. This time scratched and dented the sides. They accepted their mistake and I left it at Apple store. Got in touch with the phone support and explained the ordeal. Apple took back the original machine and sent me a brand new 2015 MacBook Pro! Mine was 2014 model!

  • Had a HP/Compaq laptop years ago - HDD died, did a test in BIOS over the phone and declared dead.
Dropped off at the service center and heard nothing for 2-3 weeks.
Called them and asked to speak with a manager to see why it takes 3 weeks to replace a HDD
Got it back a few days after

    Asus are pretty bad
Got a Transformer Prime and the rear camera came up with a green screen error
Other users had the same issue but Asus didn't want a bar of it
Should've taken it further but didn't bother as I don't use the camera anyway

    Found Kogan/COTD pretty good
Kogan sends/emails prepaid forms so you just need post it back but took them about 3 weeks for their service tech to confirm the phone is faulty and for the new phone to arrive
COTD - they said they didn't stock that headphone anymore so offered store credit. I pushed for a refund instead and they OK a refund back to the CC

Bought a Maxi-Cosi capsule from Toys R Us
One of the hinge screws was no good - Toys R Us referred us to the local Dorel support contact and they asked us to send in photos of the faulty part so they can send the correct replacements

Sony TV - seems the internal digital tuner died as everything was working but couldn't pick up FTA channels
Of course, it died just outside warranty. They wanted some ridiculous amount to get it fixed so picked up an external digital tuner from Kmart for $15 instead

  • Nexus 4.

I'd had my phone for about 18 months when it started to randomly reboot. In my pocket, while using it, all over the shop. Called Google's (i bought it via the play store). Within 2 days i had a parcel satchel to pick send it off. 2 days later I had a refurbished Nexus 4 at my door and it's still working today.

  • Dell warranty for a monitor for broken pixel. 5/5 service. New one sent out. Left old on back in. Service centre was always engaging and prompting me on steps with phone calls. Would buy a dell anytime again

  • Mavic Bike wheel.
Broken spoke after 3 months on a $1,000 set of wheels. Bit of argy bargy over email and phone calls but eventually fixed by Bike Bug North Sydney for free after reminding them about consumer laws.

    Eason bike wheel.
$2,500 set of racing wheels. However I bought on eBay from an "Unauthorised reseller". I was concerned about how much I could pump them up (most tyres go to 120psi) but I had some 150psi racing tyres. Easton tech said no problems. pump pump pump and the rim splits apart and i'm riding, lucky not to crash… initially denied warranty from Easton in the USA because I purchased on eBay. Lucky I contacted Easton via email and could fwd them the email trail where they said pump to 150psi and they had to admit some fault. Replaced the wheels, but I had to ship them the hubs ($80).

    Avanti Bike frame
Carbon Frame cracked after 15 months. No fuss but originally replaced with the same model, in the wrong size. Then they replaced with newer model (as they didn't have any of the old frame in my size), which I crashed after 3 months :/

    Dell Inspiron 17"
Mobo failed after 3 months. Sent out a tech to my work who replaced in 30 minutes.

    Longines Watch
$4,000 and <2 months old. Stopped working when I took it off and it ran out of battery (charges from motion), nothing would get it running again. Took 6 weeks to fix. I thought the shop was really rude about it.

    Nespresso U Delonghi
Nespresso Tech support wasn't easy to deal with, originally they told me it was my fault for "drinking too many coffees" and "you use the machine too much" WTF. I told them if there was a limit on how much coffee you could drink then it should be in huge letters on the box…… Once they did decide to replace, as others have mentioned, the system is very nice where they send you a replacement machine. However, it can be a PITA if you have work as you need to be home for 4 deliveries….

    1. drop off replacement machine,
    2. collect old machine,
    3. send back repaired machine,
    4. collect replacement machine.

    HP iPAQ rw6800
Usless POS, got no satisfaction from Harvey Norman and HP gave me the run around. It would freeze any time the phone rang. Eventually gave up and chucked it. Bought and hacked an original iPhone 1 to get it working in AUS.

  • +1

PS4 - HDMI input stopped working about 5 months in. Sent to Sony had back in a week. No issues no questions, Smooth and painless

  • Had a pretty good experience with Fitbit. My old fitbit zip case eventually wore out and I emailed them for a replacement. Did not have to provide a receipt but I did provide them a photograph. They sent me two cases.

Nespresso were good but when returned the item to the store (with no box) they could only send away the machine in a box. They did not have a spare box for my machine…. I eventually took it home and found the box in storage and it was arranged the next day for a pick up courier

  • My Wifes fitbit band has split after a year and 5 months. Any chance fitbit would send a new one?
    She has the Fitbit Charge.

    • Try contacting them via their website?

  • Yes. Playstation3 (the phat model), Harvey Norman.

I had the extended warranty, so when it died I claimed.

The replacement didn't even last one afternoon. So I claimed another one.

Didn't bother playing with it. Just tried it a few times, it works, then off to ebay.

  • Bought Note 2 from Kogan
Screen stopped responding about a week before the 12 months warranty goes out. Called them send the phone back, they refunded the whole amount, so bought a new phone with 12 months warranty.

    • Nice to know that Kogan actually honours their warranty.

  • I brought one of those 40" Soniq TVs that were going for 400 dollars at JBHIFI a while back. In just after 6 months the TV died, and I had lost my receipt. Since I paid with a debit card they were able to retrieve my purchase invoice and offered me the option of either a replacement or pay the difference for a better TV. Went with the latter, and got a decent 46" Samsung. TV has been running solid 2 years on and counting.

  • Samsung 51" 3D TV. After 7 months use it started to show a solid verticle line. Samsung's technician came over to fix it but didn't have a replacement panel. They delivered a newer model of the same TV within one week and took away the defective tv.
Samsung galaxy s2. After 1.5 years of use, it started to heat up and quickly discharge the battery. Vodafone sent a brand new phone in 4 days with a return satchel for the defective phone.

  • I've actually found that on the whole, as much as it's going to make me sound like a Wesfarmer's groupie, that the core companies within the Wesfarmer's group have been the most helpful to deal with in terms of warranty claims and returns. I.E: K-Mart, Coles & Bunnings.

Smaller or franchise stores have more often than not, been frustrating and unpredictable, which sounds a bit absurd, but that's just been my experience, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the opposite was true for many.

  • Samsung S4 Via telstra 24 month contract, phone's sim would not read, tried different telstra sims, took it to them can't fix because of water damage.

Samsung note 4 via the good guys, 8 months in the phone is freezing and turning off, getting worst and worst I take it back, can't fix with a quote it would of cost me $780 to repair. once again water damage.

Not sure if my pocket somehow just attracts water. I never use it in the rain or anything like that.

  • Bought the Everki Flight backpack from a Dick Smith store back in 2011, it served me well for a few years (daily use). There was some wear & tear and one of the straps had come off (not really affecting usage). Heard their support was great so contacted them via their US website, followed their process & was sent a brand new bag in about 1 week.

I think I paid about $50 originally & now on the second bag for about 18 months now. Would not hesitate to recommend them & their products!

  • Bought a SurfaceBook from MS. I was having issues like the laptop switching itself on in my bag and the Hello camera not activating on startup. After a few months I decided to report it. That was back in April. They sent me an advance replacement which arrived within a few days.

I then noticed the replacement model was missing the GPU in the base. I contacted them about it and after a few back and forths, I stopped hearing back from them.

It's now nearly three months later and I still have two SurfaceBooks with me. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing…
