Scoot Airlines - Very Tricky Airline Web Site

I am just looking at Scoot Airlines.
They seem to have a sale on at the moment, or maybe it is a Tuesday special. Or maybe just their normal pricing. I am not familiar with their pricing and so I am not sure if it qualifies for 'deal' status.
Also I was just doing a trial run at booking Sydney to Bangkok(DMK), and they are very 'tricky' with their auto-add ons. I am especially concerned at a thing called Scoot-Thru. As my booking Syd-Dmk would be in the one booking (Via Singapore) and totally through Scoot Airlines (with a scheduled connection of 3 hours) I can't see any need for this. They say that this avoids having to go through immigration and collect/recheck in baggage.
With AirAsia your baggage would be checked through if a through booking with the 1 airline. Also you would not need to do Immigration at the transit airport. Is this also the situation with Scoot? Thanks

Could be, it's how the cheap airlines save money I think….
Nonetheless, Scoot is very comfy, the Quiet Zone area is pretty nice if it's cheap, but sit near the front of the 777. I've flown twice with Scoot and multiple times with Air Asia.
    Safe flight!

  • After further research, it seems that I would need to pay an additional $20 to avoid Immigration x 2 security etc. even with a through booking & without checked baggage.

  • I don't see why they would make you go out, just to come back in if you do not have any checked in luggage. You could go without it, since you would have printed out your boarding passes for both flights. If not, you have 3 hours to kill at the airport. Singapore Airport is pretty efficient, so you should be able to go through immigration and security checks within an hour.

    • In some cases, you still need to have your passport/visa status verified at check-in area even though you don't have baggage.

      • Wouldn't that have been done at the first airport? I fail to see what the difference is. Is it was a documentation issue, wouldn't that mean that you have to do with the same thing with Scoot-thru?

        • LCC usually do document verification at the final departure point.

This is particularly likely when heading back to Australia.

  • Air Asia have a similar Fly-through type thing. If you don't have checked luggage you'll still need to go through immigration at Singapore. That being said, the process is VERY fast. Immigration will take about 5 minutes, walk up the stairs, check in for the second flight and walk back through immigration. All up will probably take about 30 minutes depending on the check in line.

  • With AirAsia if you make a thru booking you don't have to go out and back in thru Immigration but if you make 2 separate bookings you do. But the way that I read the Scoot info even if you have a thru booking you must pay $20 in addition to avoid Immigration etc.

    • So pay $20 or go out through immigration. As I said it wont take too long to do so. It's just immigration to immigration. You'd have to go through security regardless of the option as the scanning is done at the gates.

  • FWIW, last year I flew into Changi from Doha and was going to catch flight Changi to Kuala Lumpur. I only had carry-on, still had to go through Immigration. Also, they were very fussy about my middle name not being on my boarding pass, so had to get Jetstar staff to add my middle name, before I could pass Immigration. Have travelled the world and this is the only occasion this happened. So people, be aware of this. BTW, I flew Scoot once SIN - SYD and they were OK, budget airline standard. I too was confused about the "Scoot thru" business, but if it means you don't have to go through Immigration, some may prefer it reason being you don't have to see the expression on the Immigration officials face 'cos many times they look as if "someone's died in the family". Safe flight everyone!
