Streets Magnums have shrunk

So I ripped into a 4 pack of Almond Magnums (not all at once) and as I was taking the top off the first one, I noticed it was thinner. I looked at the box and where it used to be 468mL, now it's 428mL. That's 10mL less per ice cream. Doesn't sound like much but it was noticeably thinner and I have to admit, as a Magnum fan, I'm more than 10mL disappointed.

Naturally, the price was the same. I haven't seen any of the usual "it's for your own good and nothing to do with profit" PR spin online or elsewhere so I assume this is very recent. Has anyone else noticed this with other varieties?

My fandom is being challenged and I'm looking for alternatives to try, so any recommendations will be tested - maybe more than once.

It's been like it for a long time. Everything else has shrunk so it was bound to happen.

Maybe it shrunk in the cold.

      That's not what she said.

      It shrinks??

  • I wonder how long it will be until they're bite sized snacks.

I wonder how long until inflation and economic laws trump the laws of physics and they end up shrinking into nothingness.

There are already negative interest rates so minus 468mL Magnums ain't impossible…

    • They will just release a jumbo version for a higher price and start the process all over again.

  • Have you opened a packet of Salada recently? It's nearly 50% empty space. Everything is shrinking.

    • You buy on weight, not on the size of the box. This debate has been going on for years.

Some products get packaged in larger boxes/bags etc, with air to protect the product from breakage, ie, potato chips, biscuits.

In the old days, packages used to have a disclaimer along the lines of "product may settle during transit" to allay fears that you were being shortchanged! No-one would believe it now, so it got dropped I guess.

I get sick and tired of telling people over and over again - IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY, DON'T BUY THE PRODUCT. Manufacturers will never learn, until we hit their profits, and they are left with tons of unsold product. See how quickly things will change then.

The fix to the problem is in your hands - DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Edit: and yes, I no longer buy Mars Bars, Cherry Ripes (my all time fave), yoghurt, Magnums, and a ton of other stuff. Helps my budget and my waist line anyway. But I am happy to be a one-man protest. I put my money where my mouth is.

  • I am still grieving for the long lost full size Arnott chocolate royals. Not to mention Mars Bars!

  • Got the Smiths mixed flavour bag today, 150g! What a rip :/

  • Cadbury do this all the time.

It is sad that the actual food is the first thing that is often cut in these sorts of retail companies.

They could go after the marketing budgets (less ads! , less glossy packaging and posters!), the fat salaries, the distribution costs, etc… but they keep attacking the food itself! Then the executives wonder why they are losing sales and why people don't want to pay more! lol

Yeh and what's with yoghurt these days.
No more 1kg tubs, they're all 950g and the same price if not more expensive!
I make my own bloody yoghurt now, a full1kg of the stuff, that'll show them.

    Make your own magnum?
