R.I.P. Disney Infinity: Discontinued

This works out in my favour as I'm having my son save his pocket money to buy 3.0 for our Wii U.
Things should be very cheap by the time he saves up and he'll get more for his money :)

  • No idea why. They were doing pretty damn well by suckering in children for 15 bucks a pop. But one less Toys-to-life franchise is a good thing.

  • Wow, big news… very surprised! They seemed to be killing Skylanders, although I've got to say I was quite PO'd with the new Marvel release (only get one new character with the level set rather than the usual two, but it's the same price!).

Wonder if this is due to pressure from Lego Dimensions, I know my kids are all over that and loving it!

    • With Disney, Skylanders, Lego, and Nintendo themselves (Scales are tipped that the new Nintendo console coming this year has even more amiibo support!), perhaps they just didn't want to compete in that sort of market. After all, they've closed down their entire videogame publishing wing, not just cancelled a single game. Either way, one less company ripping us off with these mega-transactions (Microtransactions means small transactions, but 15 bucks per character/level ain't small by any means lol) is undeniably a breath of fresh air.

  • +1

The figures are top quality, the games however are trash. They never improved at all in any way.

  • I am actually happy about this in a sense, as it makes Star Wars and Marvel joining Lego Dimensions pretty likely.

    • I mean, companies with their fingers in all the pies can still make great content in their main pie. However, Disney has put their Nintendo pants on recently, in that they're just revitalizing 20 year old IPs to make a quick cash-in, whilst simultaneously ruining the original.

      Compare these:
The controls of Star Fox Zeroes
Casting Rebel Wilson as Ursula (rumour) in The Little Mermaid

Both decisions that are equally destructive to the franchise. But it's not due to the fact that they have too many pies, but the fact that they are hoping that these are all golden pies.
