Aliexpress, purchased tablet, seller requests I pay more

A seller on Aliexpress had the Chuwi Hi10 tablet listed with keyboard for AUD $170 so I purchased and paid, payment accepted.
Seller then emails asking for AUD $155 more as they made a mistake with the listing.

I contacted Aliexpress staff and said I didn't want to pay more, and they said they would speak to the seller on my behalf.
Seller sent an email to me saying I should have spoken to them first, (I only spoke to customer service, I did not open a dispute).
Seller an hour later sends email saying "you can choose cancel the order also, choose the "others" reason. we will full refund to you."
Next day they send a generic email saying the item is posted.

What would you do?

Would you respond to seller telling them they didn't give me time to respond? I just got online and found all the emails.
Do I trust the seller will send the items "as advertised" or are they pulling a shonky?

Have you had this experience with Aliexpress before?

Cancel the transaction and give the correct reason allowed. The seller request s you to chose "change of mind" as that selection does not affect their seller rating.

Start a dispute as well(if able to) and attach screen dumps of the sellers emails/messages.

Aliexpress dispute resolution/buyer protection has always sided with me when I have provided them with evidence.

Sure , sellers do stuff up and make mistakes. Twice I've had sellers message me apologising about a price error. I've cancelled the transaction because the price was too good and I probably wouldnt end up with the right goods and then that would be a hassle. Also, if it's an error/mistake and they are losing money then I'm not going to be a self-righteous dlckhead and "demand what's mine" - uncool

  • "Next day they send a generic email saying the item is posted."

You're screwed. You can now wait 6 weeks, lodge a complaint that idem has not arrived, wait another few weeks, and then get your money back.

  • Find out if it has been posted or not: if not, cancel.

There isn't $155 difference between what you paid and what other sellers are asking. If it has been posted I would be tempted to keep it and pay no more, because they are trying it on and because they are incompetent dimwits.

    • Gearbest: $216, Geekbuying %251. Aliexpress $249+.
This is quite substantial price difference.
      Obviously a currency issue ….

  • It is always hard to tell with pricing errors like this if they were an accident or an intentional bait to lure buyers.
Being an overseas co you cannot force them to honour an offer of any kind unless AliExpress is willing to take a stand against the seller on your behalf when you submit a formal complaint / dispute.
You say that the item is now posted… they have your CC details so have they billed you for the extra now that it is shipped?
If they have done so without your auth then just head to your bank with prints of your contacts with the seller for a charge back.

When I see large anomalies with an offered price on an expensive item i query the retailer first. Getting into a debate over the matter can be a damn pain imo.

  • thank you all for your comments and advice. I have asked the seller for a cancellation even though the order says that it has shipped (I can't automatically cancel it myself now), and the seller is still asking for more. Will let you know how it goes.

I did check my bank account and only the original price has been taken out, I will keep an eye on it too.

Depending on the sellers response, I will open a dispute if it is not resolved.

Yeah, I'm hoping it was a simple error, not bait and switch. So hopefully we get it sorted out soon.

  • If you paid with a credit card, just ask a charge back from you financial institution.

    • thanks, I just contacted my bank and requested a charge back. It will take 6 weeks.

I looked into the Aliexpress dispute procedure and I have to wait 4 more days to lodge a cancel request (after they claim it is sent….weird)

So its a waiting game this week.

      Oh and FYI:From the Seller:

      "Please cancel by your side.
      Process:
      Open a dispute,
Choose"YES" for did you receive your package?
The Reason:" I found a better price somewhere elese"
Then apply, then we will accept your dispute, full refund to you.
      Best regards!

No way am I going to say I received my parcel. I will chat with customer service instead.

      • If they were honest and professional, they could have contacted Aliexpress' customer service and say it was a misunderstanding, we refund the client straight away.

        • that would be the smart easy way to do it, but….I doubt their honesty now that they have again asked me to "Open a dispute,
Choose"YES" for did you receive your package?". So I will wait until next week and open the dispute but see what other options there are as I will not say I have received something I haven't, that's just crazy.

        • @FrugalBugger: I never bought from Aliexpress because I can find the same stuff on eBay and I know its rules.

I've had a very bad experience from Alibaba (Aliexpress main site) when I posted as a manufacturer, after that I started receiving very very distressful and annoying and harassing calls from Indian marketing scums pretending to speak American, always different people but same scum marketing stuff, they never give up and call at anytime and any days of the week.
I unsuccessfully tried to unsubscribe from Alibaba because their e-mails reminders (spam from Indians marketing) didn't have a easy way to do it, I eventually gave up because it was too much hassle and now all Alibaba's e-mails are labeled as spam and automatically deleted.

  • Ok, so here's how it all panned out, the seller kept trying, saying " ,"choose the YES on first step (received the product), and choose choose " I no longer need the product: reason on second step. "

I refused several times as I did not feel safe saying I received the product when they didn't even post it. I again asked for a refund, they again told me to use the above method. I firmly told them no, I am not prepared to lie, and gave them several options to resolve the matter.

Then I got this message from them: "I am sorry to have kept you waiting for such a long time. Have you received the goods?
If you have already signed the package, could you help to confirm the receipt? Hope you like them." (item was never posted)

And I'd had enough of their games, I escalated the dispute, and now the refund is in processing, so I will get it eventually.

oh and the seller….", I donot know why you do this to us." hmmm….really??

So yep, a bit of hassle, but happy with the Aliexpress customer service team, not so much with the seller.
