I used betterbidding.com to successfully identify all five 'mystery' hotels we stayed in on a trip to the USA, and saved a packet compared to the retail websites. It works by people reporting what hotel they have scored against the hotel area / features offered in the mystery hotel listing.
There is limited information for anywhere outside of North America however, so betterbidding is of limited use there. Unless anyone knows of good hotwire / priceline companion website/s for other areas of the world?
