MSY site seems to be down at the moment.

    So is Harvey Norman…

Also seen some hosting sites getting DoS attacks…

That's no good is it JV

      • Maintenance Notice
        Dear Customers,

Our main website is down due to ISP service outage. We will bring it back as soon as possible.

In the meantime, you can access our pdf pricelists from the links above or below.

        Sorry for the inconvenience.

        • Also seen some hosting sites getting DoS attacks…

          wonder who they pissed off

    • -3

Maybe they should upgrade to windows?

      • +2

Yep, I don't think there is good support for MS-DOS these days…

        • +2

They should change to IBM PC-DOS

    • Certainly something going on.

  • +2

That's a great price! Going for it when they're up! Seeing a lot of Telstra DNS related issues, for those in the know, custdata is showing no DNS records for any company I know. Serious issues.

Thanks AlphaQ, will be grabbing one.

  • hmmmm….I paid 109 for an intel 535 240gb and I thought that was a good price…

    • +3

      It is. So is this.
      2 different kettles of fish.

I keep buying these for friends'upgrades as I've never felt/noticed a difference for day to day use.

    • The Intel is faster & more reliable so just another case of get what you pay for. For a barebones system i'd grab this, for a business system i'd go with Intel.

  • I wish either Intel or Samsung was that price. Nevertheless, it is a good deal.

    • +Vote?

      • -1

Apparently you can't ask people for plus votes, even if it s bleeding obvious they like the deal, because the say "it's a good deal". Then some clown will down vote you

        • Until a friendly member +votes you

Just my latest experience with MSY,

I tried to order 2 items from them last month after buying bargained components found off OzB :), they tell me the items are reserved and will contact me when it's arrived from the supplier.
I call them the next week just for an eta, they tell me on its way, a week later I email again just to see if it had arrived but they tell me they are no longer getting the items anymore.
I call service center after 69min wait, to tell me they should be getting it and will check with purchaser and will let me know the response. Nuurrrrrp. nothing, 3 weeks of waiting for nothing :((.

From now on i'll head over to Centercom, they seem to have better communication, had the items ordered in within a few days, and seem to able to price match most of MSY prices.

I use to go through UMart but i feel their prices aren't as competitive as it was few years ago : (

    • +5

That just comes with the territory with MSY. Personally I wouldn't expect any service from them. For buying in person for in stock items they're great (and cheap!). If you need delivery or something ordered I'd look elsewhere.

    • Customer service at MSY is really bad so every time they are the cheapest for what im looking for i will just go to PLE or PCCASEGEAR and ask them to price match,PLE tend to be really happy to do compare to PCCASEGEAR.

    • +3

+1 for Centercom. Made a PcPartPicker list of parts and emailed it to them. They were able to get pretty close to all of the other suppliers prices if I bought them all through them. saved a whole lot in shipping.

    • MSY have pretty bad service, but their prices are great, you just have to know what you want and not expect to get much over the phone support. Centrecom's prices are generally more expensive, and a rip off in some cases, bar a few items from time to time that might be really cheap, but beware…. If you've ever been to Centrecom when their delivery truck is there you'll see how they handle their items, they chuck their boxes around like they are basketballs. After 4 DOA's from them and seeing the delivery driver in action like michael jordan (without skill) I will never shop from them again.

      • My situation had nothing to do with product knowledge.

        And fair enough

        • -1

I know the first thought that would spring to mind after my commment would be "all delivery drivers do that" Witness them. Clayton store has a delivery van that comes out the front regularly…. I've seen them bounce laptop boxes off the back of the van onto the concrete, dust it off and shrug like its their daily routine.

  • (profanity) hell i bought a 128 V300 for 59 dollars. posslbe to price exchange?

    • +5

V300 is bad no matter how cheap you got it.

    • a V300 is an entry level SSD. It's still a SSD and far superior to a standard HDD and only about on average (it's complicated with variable size reads and writes) but overall only about 10% slower than a Samsung Evo and nearly half the price. Though on the cheap I probably would have gone for the Kingston Fury X which is a step above the V300 and only a couple of dollars more. Though I still prefer Samsung.

      • i have the fury x in my personal computer, my dad has an EVO - its all the same to me for my uses.

$85 plus delivery from Kogan if you dont live near a MSY
    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/sandisk-240gb-ssd-plus-25-sata-…

    • +2

probably grey import from kogan, which means you have no local manufacturers warranty… so if kogan choose not to honour the warranty you need to send it back to country of origin.

      • Sandisk have international warranty on their products unlike Samsung.

        • Sandisk have international warranty

ive never needed to use an international warranty (let alone for a drive which i think they track via serial# for warranties anyway?)

but does that still apply for grey import sales, being that you cant produce an invoice etc from country of origin? if it is the case that they cover it just the same as it was a local delivered item than thats a pretty huge plus. im always wary of grey imports because of the warranty implications.

Price per GB is almost down to USB flash drives.

  • Already have a 240gb, I want bigger :)

    • That's what who said?

      • +4

        That's what she said

        • -1

already use 240 gb in daily basis i want bigger!
          thats what i said

    • You sure the old puter can handle a bigger unit though?

  • +1

It depends on what msy you shop at

I have allways had good service from the Elizabeth store

Bought a netgear nas and it was faulty took it back 4 days after purchase the didn't have anymore and was offered a refund there and then or another unit sent from their port adelaide store

    • +1

ditto the service from that store, in fact all the ones ive been to in SA have been perfect to me, but then again i know exactly what i want and how to use it. i think a lot of the people who get "bad service" are people who dont know what they are doing and expect to have their hands held while being walked through everything step by step. MSY just isnt that sort of place.

  • +2

Kinda no reason for any new pc these days not to have a ssd in em.

    • +1

This is true, adding to that, every computer I've fixed has had a 500gb or 1tb hdd, and every time it's been 20% full at most. So 240/480gb is certainly reasonable when we can't even get over 100gb in a tablet. :S

      • +1

Tablet OS is normally around the 10gb mark. My windows 10 folder is 26.2 GB on my work machine, nothing fancy in there just the normal Windows 10 install. I don't know how people get by with those 32GB chinese tablets, i'd say 64gb is the minimum you need to run Windows. When you account for the page file and hibernation file then I don't even know how they have any available storage space at all.

  • +6

Maybe now, with a complete and ongoing outage, MSY can update that trainwreck they call a website!

    • +4

I can handle a garbage website when the prices are so low on just about everything they sell. Same goes for their service too.

    • +1

You call their website garbage? You must've never seen their old one before they created a web storefront.

  • Anyone know a really good, slim enclosure for this to use as an external drive?

    • Do you even need an enclosure? I use a sata to usb 3 cable.

    • The SSD is practically an enclosure itself, just grab a SATA to USB cable as smpantsonfire suggested as none of the drive internals are exposed like with a HDD, it's a totally sealed casing :)

  • Any thought on this vs Ultra II?

    • +1

Ultra II is better and faster, but at $86 vs $99 I'd probably go the Plus…

      Borderline.

There are 3 cheaper suppliers please check out http://xprice.com.au/search?key=SDSSDA-240G-Q25

    • +1

I've never heard of XPrice before. How does it compare to Static Ice?

      • +1

I've never heard of it either but judging from that one search I just viewed the layout on xprice is much better, staticice hasn't had a frontend upgrade in years.

        http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=SDSSDA-240G-Q25…

They are both missing some stores that the others one track so I think I will be checking both of these sites from now on before buying something :)
