Clothes for Big & Tall People! (3XL+)

Hi all,

Embarrassing question. I'm looking at buying some warm clothes for winter. Due to a combination of a horrible knee injury 2 years ago and business travel with bad eating habits, I've managed to work my way up from a 2XL to a 6XL. I've become a fat ass and hating it. After finally getting the all clear, I am in the process of losing weight but the cold is setting in and I lack decent clothes to keep me warm. I don't want to spend a fortune as I hope to be nearing my previous weight in the next 12 months so I'd be getting rid of the clothes. I've gone to Target & Big W and the winter clothes are pretty thin there. Are there any other places worth checking that don't charge too much?

  • I don't know if I could help you since Big W and sportsdirect are pretty much the only places I know that sell big clothes, but is it possible having a good thick blanket to cover you up would help if you are just at home?

I spent around 2 years insulating my home after I first got it because it was freezing, using reflective film on windows, adding thick curtains and redoing the floors, is it worth it to find out where the cold is coming into your place of residence (if you don't own it) and sealing it off?

You are after all going to still be cold AFTER you lose the weight so thats why I mention it…

Also you could invest in a good pair of gloves/home shoes (furry slippers) if your extremities are so cold they feel like they could drop off

Lastly you could use it as an excuse to do in home exercising more often just to keep warm (weak reason I know).

http://www.eastbay.com/ If you spend five minutes working out your measurements, you'll save yourself a heap of trouble. Yank sizing isn't anywhere near ours. The plain Eastbay hooded jackets, unless they have changed them, are really warm & tough as leather. Between footy, hockey, & MTB mine get a hiding & still wash up fine.

    • US sizing isn't an issue as I have travelled to the US in the past and am familiar with what size I am. The only problem is time. 10 days to get to me is a bit tough

I'll check out Eastbay, thanks for the suggestion =)

  • Not sure what kind of clothes you're looking for but I recently discovered Johnny Bigg (http://www.johnnybigg.com.au/). They seem to sell pretty nice fashionable clothes up to 8XL (i think). Pretty pricey though.

    • Yep, picked up a decent knitted jumper and a few T's there on the weekend. Came up to $180 though, which is fine but not eager to spend so much on such few items again. But I'm more eyeing off warmer weather clothes. Jumpers, hoodies, etc.

      • Yeah, I was after a hoodie and admit they have a couple there which seem pretty nice and warm, but I don't know if I can justify blowing $120 on one.

  • +1

Have you tried Target recently? they seem to be having a 50% off clearout, I have been to a few, only the bigger ones has a "Big and Tall" section. You may get lucky, as from what I have seen, their clearance sizes are either S or 2XL sizes and up. I got some pyjamas, as I like my pyjamas nice and loose. :)

  • Have you tried Lowes? They have a big guys range up to 9XL. Jackets, flanos, and knits, some of their stuff is fine, some of it is so bad, its really on edge. A 9XL Hawaiian shirt - no problem, that's a lot of hibiscus :)

    • I have. A lot of it is hideous and nothing any where near fashionable. Good work clothes though. I picked up a pair of heavy duty work pants that I find to be better than Hard Yakka but half the cost.

  • Good luck with your weight loss :)
It's hard but oh so worth it.
Remember - EVERYONE ELSE is battling the same thing. You are not alone :)
