I got mine from previous deal. I gotta say that I dissapointed the video quality of A118C. Even G1W-C provides better video quality than A118C.
However I like its size and how it can be mounted.

    • Agree, it's pretty grainy, although still good enough for me.
I love the size, mounting and the additional gps add on too

    • +2

Strange, I have an A118C and it's not grainy at all, and most online reviews rate the A118C as being better video quality than the G1W-C. Perhaps a dirty lens or something?

      • +2

I agree. The A118 was much better than my old G1W-C.
Only down side for both cams is the quality during the night. But hey, its the best for this price range.
Day time recording is fantastic on the A118.

      • Yeah maybe, or im probably just picking at it for the sake of it.
It is definitely great quality for the price and i highly recommend it though

    • +2

Same here. Really disappointed with the A118C quality , esp night video is almost useless as you cannot see any details of registration or road. Day time is still acceptable and I end up keeping my g1w-cb as it has better video quality at night.

A118c is only good for its wide angle but again only if the video is clear enough otherwise it is useless.

      • If you are driving along the road with street lights, A118C has pretty good video quality at night. Only when no street lights, video is useless.

  • I was looking at dash cans today. Which one should I buy?

    • I have got the Yi smart dash cam International version. Good under low light and goes up to 2304x1296 30fps. Built in Wifi but lacks motion recording and the ADAS feature is for right-hand drive countries. This seller had it for under AUD100 for the Chinese version.

      • +3

So which one should he buy?

        • Hard to tell. He hasnt clearly stated his requirements. For low light/night vision this yi dashcam would be a good one to go for. I would love to have the motion sensor option to keep an eye on my car which is parked on the street (powered via an external powerbank).

        • @k0ka2:

Is it safe to have one of these Xiaomi powerbanks permanently plugged into the camera. The car is getting hot so even the power bank is hidden from the direct sunlight it's still gonna be hot.

        • @k0ka2: think I'd prefer an out of way hidden install. Anyone comment on any other dash cams that have stealth installs with better video quality??

        • +1

@flashi007: Go with dashcam with a118c design and they are difficult to see from outside so people can't easily tell you have a dashcam. Get this one, premium quality of a118c, called street guardian:
          https://dashcamtalk.com/sg9665gc/

Using same design as a118c but much better video quality at night.

A118c day driving is acceptable but nothing flash, night is pretty poor. The gw1-c I find better for day footage and night footage.

As an example if I'm doing 50k on local Streets and car coming the other way is doing 50k I can pause the video on the gw1-c and read the oncoming number plate, it's impossible on the a118c. This may be due to the gw1-c having a narrower FOV but footage is definitely clearer on the gw1-c for night and day.

I would only choose the a118c if you want a discreet install. The gw1-c is definitely bulky but the footage is definitely superior on my units.

Technoman on YouTube has a good review of the a118c but my units footage is nowhere near as good as his, maybe they have cut corners to get the price down and sacrificed quality in the process

    • +1

I can easily read opposing car footage on my A118C. I have read on dashcamtalk that sometimes the focus is slightly off on the A118C. If you are prepared to open it up and adjust it then you might be able to bring it up to the same quality as Technoman (mine is basically the same as his).

    • I can't see much different between my gw1-c and a118c at night time. Both are poor. But I prefer my a118c because I bought the gps module. Gw1-c doesn't any gps support.

  • New to dash cameras but been thinking of purchasing one for a while.

Will this record while the car is turned off in the parking lot?
Is it possible to install without having a big mess of cables?
What about the rear of the car?

    Thanks.

      • Most won't, they generally have a battery that records for a few minutes and shuts down. Unless your usb port in the car has been specifically designed/wired to power the port without a plug in the vehicle.
      • Most people tuck it into the headliner, and you won't see it.
      • Some expensive dashcams have a second one. Other people put in a second camera facing backwards. There are a few dashcams that have a camera facing backwards too and therefore show the inside of the car (and through the back window)
    • I'm in the same boat. Having not ever been in an accident where the other party wasn't obviously at fault (rear-ended - where the dash cam wouldn't have helped much anyway), though the victim of people mucking around with my car - presumably out of jealousy that my POS is nicer than their POS - the ability to record while the car is turned off is my main concern. Would prefer something as inconspicuous as this though; few things will motivate someone to break into your car more than that someone having just vandalized your POS and then noticing there is evidence of such hanging from the rear-view mirror.

      • +1

There are other devices you can get independent of the dash cam in order to keep it running while the car is off. One example is the Power Magic Pro: http://www.autoblackbox.com.au/accessories/blackvue-power-ma…

Basically this connects directly to your car battery to power the dashcam even when the car is off and then monitors the battery voltage to determine when it needs to shut it off to prevent your battery from getting too low.

So what I'd recommend is find which dash cam you're happy with, and then after you've got it up and running you can decide whether you still want to go ahead with something like the Power Magic Pro.

  • Ordered, paid with PayPal and cost was Au$66 after mobile discount and EB point discout! Bargain thanks!

  • +1

Purchased the a118c last time it was on special. I think the quality is amazing for the price and super discreet and looks very professional.
One question I'm hoping someone here can help is why there is AV input and AV output?? Can I buy another a118c for the rear and connect the AV out, to the AV in on the front??
    Thank you!!

  • just to clarify, if I'm parked and 30minutes later for example, someone hits my car, it won't detect the collision and start recording? :O

    • Correct.

  • Will this melt in the Ozzie heat?

  • Can you record in cabin footage with any dash cam? Might need it for uber.

  • bought 2 G1Ws I'm on the bandwagon now. Cheers OP
