Nintendo Wii Price Drop from Tommorrow

Not sure if you were all aware but hold off on buying that new Wii for a while as they are dropping the price by $100.

MOD: this is not technically a deal and now moved to the forums.

    it's about time!

    • how come the wii never had a die shrink? didn't ps3/xbox get a price drop each time it was shrunk?

      • +1

Cause the tech is so old it didn't need a shrink.. and they were too busy finding places to stuff the mountains of cash they were making to even bother!
It's just a clocked up Gamecube, The CPU is about 50% faster, the GPU has the same capabilities, and programatically it's nigh on identical (which is why it has full Gamecube compatibility).

        • yep, which is why i never bought one for myself, i am very tempted to buy one now though for my 3yr old

  • So what will this bring the price down to? $300 I see.

  • Dropped to $299.95? Isn't that what they have been worth for a while now?

    • +1

Well, $299.95 could be considered too high anyway, given the US have them for around $200. But at least now, we'll hopefully see some good bundles at $299.95

  • Bargain? or Deal?

    • Probably should have been posted under General Discussion.
In my giddy exitement I inadvertently posted it here….:)

      • i'm glad you posted it here. i hardly ever check the forums! thanks!

and isn't the entire ozbargain.com.au technically a forum??

  • wow lucky me, i was about to buy a wii last weekend.

  • +1

only thing is u never see wii's sold on their own much
    always packaged with stuff
so i'll be interesting if those 340-400 packages drop by much (with crappy games and such)

    • +1

id be happy with wii+ monster hunter tri bundle for $299.95

  • wonder if it will drop the preowned prices
    http://www.ebgames.com.au/wii-999154-Preowned-Wii-Console--4…

  • Yeah monster hunter tri looked sweet on good game the other night.

Still, for the life of me i cant understand why the wii is so highly priced.. even with this $100 off it aint enough compared to the xbox deals etc (and the obvious technical superiority of the other consoles).

    • I reckon nintendo would be constructing wii's for well under $100 in parts now… for a long time they have been turning a profit from console sales alone (unlike the other consoles)

    • +1

      Supply vs. demand.

Over Xmas periods, it's impossible to guarantee a Wii will be in stock (or at least it has been for the last couple of years).

So why drop the price on something that is STILL selling like hotcakes? Xbox360 dropped their price, didn't affect Wii sales. :)

  • +3

Great that it's dropping in price. Can we not promote some second rate 3rd party site like Aussie nintendo. If so, promote the retailers who are in on the deal, if not, just like to Nintendo.com.au :)

    • +1

yup, why not just link to the official nintendo australia website?

  • I can sense a new WII HD ? coming this Xmas because PS3 & Xbox 360 will have their motion sensning stuff out by then

  • "The Wii is currently sitting pretty with 1.7 million units sold across Australia. By comparison, the GameCube only sold six and a half consoles in total."

hahaha six and a half. I didn't realise they sold that many.

    • +1

Thats BS unless it was me and a few friends i can vouch for 3 Gamecubes anyone else ?

      • +6

        I'll claim the half

      • +4

i have 3 cubes in my house right now. cant beleive us 3, the sole owners of gamecube consoles in australia, have all found out way to this post. amazing!

        • +2

          wow that is amazing

        • +1

I bought 4 gamecubes from eb games for $10 each - I only wanted the controllers and third party were $20 each.

  • +2

Hmm, I might just have to consider picking one of these up :)

  • -3

Definitely not a bargain if the price is being dropped universally.

    • Agreed, RRP is NOT a bargain.

    • +3

Knowledge is power. Its good to know the change in RRP, otherwise you may 'jump' on a deal that was a good deal, say, one month ago, but not today.

  • +4

how would u feel if u went to buy one today?…..the posters point is to wait a lil while so u dont waste money.

is stopping someone from wasting money as good as a saving?

  • +4

i do see Broden's point. But im not going to vote negative as I think there is still value in the post.

    • +5

Same, if this had been put in the forums it may have not reached everyone.

  • +2

    This isn't a news site..

There's one (maybe two) current bargains with the Wii at this price. Wait for the retailers to roll out their pricing/specials, and you can post that.

Edit: You can continue to neg me all you want.. but it seems the forum rules tend agree with me, as per:
MOD: this is not technically a deal, will be moved to the forums once big boss comes online

I guess reading comprehension is a little low on the to-do list these days…

      • +2

Hi, I believe you meant between your ears in your above post as opposed to between your head as you so eloquently worded it. I believe Pais was referring to those anonymous users here who tend to neg for the sake of it without giving good reason or any type of feedback in the way of a post or reply. You on the other hand seem to have made a somewhat poor personal attack on Pais by inferring that he doesn't use the thing 'between his head' (I think he means ears people) which too I believe is against the rules here.

So in closing *Wii is for girls and kids

        thank you and goodbye :)

*unless you intend on buying one under the false pretences that it is for your 3yr old son but actually intend on waiting for him to go to bed and then racking up countless hours playing Monster Hunter Tri on it…

(oh and whiznet, I negged your post for your poor grammar, yeah I'm a Grammar Nazi and +'ed Pais post for pointing out that he is indeed following the rules regardless of his past rebelliousness)

      • +2

        whiznet,

Could you please direct me to said bargains? I'm intrigued. If someone legitimately pointed out that my vote does not comply with the voting guidelines, I'd retract it (and I've actually done "conditional negs" as per the guidelines in the past).

Furthermore, your insults are neither witty nor becoming…

Edit: Here's a fun fact… In the past year, I've negatively voted 20 times (about 6.5%). I cannot recall one instance where a moderator has revoked my negative (although I concede I do not always check). In 95% of cases where I've neg'd, others have neg'd. I can't see a negative vote on any deals you've voted, submitted or commented on either. So, again, I asked you - where are these votes you speak of?

If you have a problem with a vote of mine, you're more than welcome to report it - much as I would've done for this thread had a moderator not already amended the description after I commented (and in fact, I've done it for your post). It would only take you 5 seconds. Until such a time, your claims are completely bogus and your personal attacks are immature.

    • +1

I completly agree and I said as much in my second post that it should be moved.

  • +4

This post could save someone $100, I'm comfortable with it being here. I will even press green.

Of course, my opinion counts for little as I'm not a mod, or grand ruler of the universe…… yet!

  • There was deal back last July from DSE with Wii + Wii fit (the balance board thingy) + MotoGP for $392. If the Wii RRP is now dropping to $299, the bundles better be a whole lot better with it!!

  • +1

Just saw a promo video on Microsoft's Natal. No wonder Nintendo is dropping price :)

    • M$ and $ony will never have Nintendo's killer 1st party titles tho…

  • +1

Sony Move also looks the biz Scotty.

    • +1

I wish I had more positives votes to issue.

      • lol, someone actually negged you for that comment.

        • +1

Looks like I've got a fan. I've got someone following my comments, negging them all now.
