  • Has anyone had any luck connecting these to a laptop?

    • +2

When you're paying $150 for a pair of wireless earphones, I don't think you need luck.

      • I have 2 pairs of these and I find them to be great headphones but having difficulties getting them connected to my 2 laptops.

        • +1

that is really weird. I've got a pair and have no issues connecting to my mac laptop, just turn Bluetooth on and hold down the middle button on the headphones until it says searching, laptop will find them and it'll pair.

what issues are you exactly having? maybe you should return? could be faulty?

        • @eltito: I have a feeling it is more a laptop bluetooth issue than with the headphones themselves. Just wanted to check to see if anyone else might have had issues with them and needed to get a special driver from somewhere. Other then this issues I love the headphones as they are very comfortable and sound great when using with my phone.

        • @penthus: Bluetooth is an international standard - there's no difference between "laptop bluetooth" and "phone bluetooth". One way to find out whether it's headphone or laptop related is to borrow another bluetooth headset and try pairing it with your laptop to see if works. If it does, the Jaybirds are definitely the problem.

        • hows the standby battery life? say if I have it on but not playing music, does it drain the battery? hows the mic call quality?

        • @rexii2300: the battery life is definitely good, I haven;t actually measured how long they exactly last, but definitely in the 6-8 hour range. I think the booklet says 8 hours? the mic call quality is good too.

My only issue with the x2 is the following (it is hard to somewhat explain, so I will try my best): when your listening to music or using it as a mic call, it is like missing bass, I don't know how to exactly explain it, but the it is like because it feels like it is missing some bass, there's a lot of treble (if that makes sense) and it makes music and mic call quality sound a bit like screechy, like somewhat someone is talking much louder so to speak. I probably made no sense, but that is my only grip.

        • @eltito: I find it is the fit. It is essential that they are all the way in to get the bass. It improves dramatically. But as I wear them at the gym I am often missing the bass. I use the comply tips too which is better at the gym but not as sure fitting.

to others: battery as advertised. syncing with a tablet, 2 laptops and 3 different phones over the last 18 months has been no issue.

        • @eltito: thanks :) i think I get what you mean too about the lack of bass. My $10 chinese BT ones sounds like that.

  • Good price. After discovering the Sony B-trainers dont actually fit my partners head, thinking might get her these instead.

    • Interesting that the B-Trainers don't fit her - I find that the fit is actually quite adjustable by rotating the earphones slightly forward for tighter fit (i.e. smaller heads) or backward (i.e. larger heads). Being a female I suspect she doesn't have a giant head? No offence intended by the way.

I was, however, very disappointed to discover that the B-Trainers don't support AptX (shouldn't matter for her if she's on iOS), but neither do the Jaybirds.

I would suggest grabbing a pair of Sony SBH80 on eBay for less money - the best combination of ergonomics, sound and price for a bluetooth earphone in my experience. And I've regularly taken showers in them too.

      • Yeh its strange, when she puts on the headphones, the earpiece rests on the flat bit just outside her ear canal. Everytime she pushes it into her ear they slide and sit outside again.
I tried them this morning, the sound quality isnt bad I have had nothing but trouble getting the HR monitor to work.

  • ordered a pair myself and was about to post this deal but then I saw this :)

For Android users out there, the Jaybirds don't support AptX, which should be a deal breaker for anyone after good sound. Consider the now discontinued (but still available) Sony SBH80 instead.

    • +1

      Apples and oranges.
You can't run with the Sony, Jaybird is basically the best sounding sports bluetooth headphones even without AptX - a feature that sounds good but I had never even heard of till today.

      • -1

If you haven't heard of AptX, haven't run with the Sony and haven't compared the two headphones then perhaps you should refrain from commenting, as you're doing nothing but misinforming people.

        • -1

How can you run with them? Do you realize jaybirds are made for sports, sweat proof, ear holders, lightweight. The Sony has a big chunky thing on it and made for on the go/businessmen.

        • @carlitos:

Dont' worry about who Sony's are marketed at - they've done that so that the SBH80 don't compete with Sony's own inferior wireless sports earbuds models. Besides this there are no compelling reasons why they can't be used for sports.

Not only do I run with them, I also gym with them, shower in them, and sleep in them (as an alternative to noise-blocking earplugs - the only earbuds I've ever considered for this use). And, unlike earplugs, they're actually comfortable, don't fall out of my ears in the middle of the night, and dry a lot faster after I wash them.

A friend also uses them during a boxing practice a few times a week.

By the way, they only weigh 25 grams - so you and I may have a different definition of 'bulky'.

They are unbelievably ergonomic, with dedicated buttons for everything - from playback controls, to volume, to call handling. And, yes, they can go with you from the gym and into the office, and can be worn around the neck all day without being in the way.

They also kill the Jaybirds in terms of the sound - don't take my word for it and do a comparison between the two using some high dynamic range lossless tracks and you'll hear it for yourself.

Last but not least, the Jaybirds are infamous for their poor reliability, whereas the SBH80 can take a lot more abuse despite not being marketed for sports.

I almost forgot the price - the Sony's can be had for less, which makes this a no-brainer.

If you're happy with the Jaybirds, then that's all that should matter to you, but don't be fooled thinking that they are the best out there - not by a long stretch. Similarly, just because you're not aware of AptX, doesn't mean it's not a must-have feature for those of us that care about sound quality. Ignorance is not a virtue.

Jaybird have been one of the highest return rate products we've ever sold…

if their past product is anything to go by, i would strongly suggest people to avoid.

2/10 earphones were returned for defects

    • Why neg if man is telling the fact?
I personally have the X1, could not be happier. Cannot speak for this X2.

    • My X2s are great sounding, but the earbud that has the volume controls is very hard to sit right in my ear. Sometimes the noise completely cuts out.

The range is also terrible connecting to any phone.

Otherwise, I like their compact size and SQ.

      • whats the range?

        • Lol, I have my 6P in my pocket and the sound cuts out… so not far. Some days it's great, other days not

        • I easily get 10 metres at the gym. leave it on the ground and can walk around whilst training.

    • I did get a pair replaced. but they were good about it.

  • Paid a bit more in the deal posted last week. These were highly recommended by a few colleagues and so I thought of giving them a go.

    • I have them and they are great.

  • "Wireless"

  • I've got the X1's and rate them highly. Great sound and very comfortable. No problem connecting to anything, except the PS4. If the 1's were good then the 2's must be good too!

  • obviously dropped with new model release

    http://www.jaybirdsport.com/freedom-bluetooth-headphones/

    • Yup. almost double price for the new model.

  • Damn, missed it! Back up to $119US.
The midnight black is still 108US so I may grab a pair.

  • Anyone know of any other brands or models that are really good? I don't do a lot of sport.
