Ideas for Unlimited Broadband with Good Speeds

Hi All

I have recently moved to Australia/Melbourne (settling in my job) and currently on a house hunt(hopefully will be accepted for the ones where I submitted applications).
But I am also looking for good broadband options with unlimited data and good speed. Whilst in London, I used unlimited broadband with average speed about 10 mbps. This kind of speed was fine with me.
Unlimited because I stream quite a lot on online, using netflix, youtube, google play movies etc.

Can the community here suggest some IPS's which provide unlimited broadband with reliable service + good speeds. I have looked at Telstra and Optus and found them quite expensive for unlimited usage.

Many Thanks.

I just want to say, I'm on Optus and the upload speed is pretty slow on cable.
The download is really fast but often it's just really slow because the upload bandwidth is required to connect incoming data.

Check if you can get NBN in your area.

If you're just looking for something similar to Telstra and Optus but cheaper I'd suggest digging around other threads.

Welcome to Australia, by the way.

You may have noticed a Telstra mobile outage too today. That is very typical and gives you a good indication of Australian internet.

  • I use TPG unlimited, it's $60/month for ADSL2+. My speeds are about 8mbps. I am not sure exactly what affects internet speeds, but I was under the impression that your distance from the exchange is a big factor. I also used to have unlimited NBN 100/40 with TPG for $90/month before I moved.

Haven't had any issues with TPG (well, no technical issues, it was a huge PITA to switch from ADSL to NBN though).

Behold our great Australian broadband network, in all it's frayed, uninsulated, and tangled glory:

10Mbps in London? Where the hell in London were you? McDonalds car park?

Internet in Australia is dreadful. I've lived in the UK, US and in a few European states and I've never experienced anything quite as bad as Brisbane. Hopefully SA, Vic and NSW are better than QLD.

Hehehe.. unfortunately there was no fibre optic in my area and had to use asdl and hence was getting low speed. In my previous house to that I had virgin media which gave around 50 mbps…

  • it all depends on what is available in the place you move into. Try and find a place that has access to NBN or TPG FTTB. There is also Telstra Cable which won't be unlimited but speeds aren't bad.

  • Thanks a lot for your replies. I will consider these options…

  • Hi All

I called TPG and they said that they can provide internet service but no landline service to my area. So, they advised me to get home phone by another provider and get internet services from TPG using that phone line (this is for ADSL2+).
I think getting home phone from one provider and internet from other would be costly affair..
