If you don't mind generic brand, it's $45 at Kmart.

  • How are these different from the regular ovens in the kitchen? Could not find anything on google.

this is like an oven but it consume less power (700w?), faster to heat up and it can cook food evenly.

This is more like a bbq machine.

We are using it for BBQ pork, roast pork , chicken wings etc

  • Still remember buying my deals direct one for $15.50 delivered. Its still sealed in box. It was an impulse buy.

    • I bought mine around then, when it came one of the metal prongs on the rack was broken, they couldn't replace it as none left so they refunded me and let me keep it.

Having said that, I find that it's not great if you are filling it up, I put a whole chook in there and thr top was cooked and not the bottom, and the after flipping the inside didn't cook fast enough (the outside was burning). Maybe it was just too big/close to the heat source

      • Yeah, you need to have that aluminum ring to get the heating element away from the chook. I find it does OK with small lamb legs or rolled roast (pork, beef etc) but I dont try to cook a whole chook in there for the reasons you state. (I have only got a generic brand one I got at best and less years ago). That said, I love the roasts and they do roast spuds really well too :) YUM.

        • I didn't get a ring with mine, but that had occurred to me. Not sure if I can makeshift one?

        • @Jackson: No idea. I didnt get one either. The cost of the ring was nearly as much as the thing itself. Check at their website, you may be able to buy one separately. It would be worthwhile if you want to be cooking large birds

      Glad to be of help

      Still using mine.

    • I bought the same one too from the same deal. Unfortunately, the oven has died this year.

Was using it when I heard the sound of something snapping or popping from within the 'hat' and a split second later, the circuit breaker in the house kicked in. Attempting to use it again, the heating element would no longer heat up though the fan continued to work.

    • Going solid bought from same deal :-)

  • Can you post an receipt please?

  • Is this the same thing as an air fryer?

    • No, but it's not that far off. I have an air fryer that is almost identical except it's non stick rather than glass and it has a paddle to move the food. Apart from that I can't see any difference in mine. Mine was also from deals direct and labelled euro something, but I have seen identical ones branded Breville

      • I have the Philips one. Seems to me they do the same thing but go by a different name. The max temp on the philips is 200 degrees.

  • Love mine (generic brand)

Only comment i have is- somewhat difficult to remove cooked food whilst the thing is hot. [weird angle trying not get burnt]

Oh yes indeed. I think I am going to start using mine on a lower table so I can reach in from above. I actively avoid using it because of the potential to burn oneself.

I bought one from aldi a few years ago for like $15-20 i think. Great for reheating and cooking small meals it heats up very fast but as for cooking evenly, not really the bottom mesh tray always takes longer than the top.

There are two types of these ovens. The halogen type and the conventional element type.

I like the latter. They last longer and are not so bright in kitchen.

Is this deal considered a pricematch (as you can't purchase it online), and hence falls under the 'pricematch is not a bargain' rule?

  • One thing to note with this oven is the markings around the dials rub off very easily.
Otherwise it's good but nothing really to set it apart from other no-name brands, they seem to be of similar quality and the glass bowl from my old oven from Copperart/Homeart fits it as well, so I suspect probably made in the same factory.

One thing with generic ones some use a circular halogen tube as a heat source instead of an element, so the light will come on and off. Also I imagine it would be less efficient as most of the energy is used up creating light rather than heat.

Also I imagine it would be less efficient as most of the energy is used up creating light rather than heat.

No, most of the energy is used up creating invisible infrared light that is trapped inside the oven and thus heating your food. The visible light you see is just a small portion. That lamp consumes 1kW, but its visible light is nothing like that from a conventional 50W halogen bulb.
