      Looks the same but only have 10W external power support.
      For USB hub, the price goes up as the supplied power goes up.
      The higher it's power, the more expensive they are :)

          Standard USB output is at 5 volt.
          The higher the current, the higher the power it can support.
          This product has 4.8A current supply where the eBay one only has 2A :)

          Which FWIW my current 7 port mbeat hub is struggling with. Only has a 3A rated PSU, and I can't load it up fully with all my gaming gear or ports simply stop working and it gets really flakey.

          If you're plugging USB drives into them, i'd strongly recommend the higher quality one.

          That is correct.
          Computer USB port usually supply 0.4~1.3A current at 5V.
          With the power divided into multiple ports, you won't be able to run all connected devices.
          That's why the external power rate becomes important.
          Higher power means you can connect more "energy consumer" such as portable hard drive :)

          Or you can connect to it with 3 x mobile phones with 1A each and 4 x USB flash memory sticks at 0.45A each.

    FYI MSY price $43 currently with low stock and out of stock in quiet a few places

    Possible stupid question, but when not using the power adaptor does this hub just work as a bus-powered one? I'd like to use it at my main desk powered, but just use it without the adaptor for a mouse and keyboard when away from my desk.

      Not at all.
      In the case when power adapter in not plugged in, this item will withdraw power from the USB port.
      As USB port has limited power, you are only able support limited devices.
      A mouse + a keyboard should be fine :)
