Replace 2x 24" Monitor with 1x 28" or 1x 32"

Hi guys,

i have one 24" kogan monitor and one 24" Viewsonic monitor in dual screen setup with my PC. I'm thinking to replace these with one 28" or 32", as i don't use dual monitor functionality anymore.

Had anyone done this before what you feel after you change it?

My budget is around $300 - $350 for the bigger screen and it will be used primarily to watch movies and a little bit of gaming (not FPS so latency wont matter). Does anyone have any suggestion on the brand and model? This philips monitor looks good, or do i need a better one for a better resolution?

I'm running with gtx 970 in my PC.

Thanks

lol yea. kinda regretted it. was going to try with their spec of 120 hz refresh rate. color reproduction turned out worse than my other monitor.

good thing i didn't pay much for it. got it from the first 20% ebay sale 2 years ago.

  • Only thing I would be worried about is pixel density but if you're not sitting up close it doesn't matter. As far as the Phillips my only considerations would be IPS screens are more reflective and there is no displayport connectivity.

  • What resolution are the 28" and 32" monitors? What kind of connections does your PC/graphics card have? Be careful of buying a really awesome monitor if your computer can't drive it (or doesn't support a high res port).

If they're the same resolution then decide how far you want to sit from your screen and then pick a monitor (sit close => smaller screen).

    • im not sure whether my budget can get the UHD 3840x2160 monitor.

im using MSI GTX 970 gaming so the connections are
      Dual-link DVI-I x 1
      Dual-link DVI-D x 1
      HDMI x 1
      DisplayPort x 1

Which i believe should be capable to run 3840x2160 (4k) ?

My $0.02 for single monitor set up within the $350 budget.

Buy the Dick Smith 41.5" 4K LED TV (Ultra HD) for $299, connect GTX 970 to TV with both DVI-VGA cable and HDMI cable. Choose HDMI Input for 4K gaming and choose VGA for browsing at full HD to avoid blurry text.

Buy the vesa wall mount for $23 so you can tilt and swivel and rotate your display.

You can sell your two monitors on gumtree for around $100 or keep them as additional displays.

Two monitors are better because you can have the best in both worlds. One Ultrawide 21:9 UHD for movies without black bars and extra real estate for photo editing and coding etc. One 16:9 monitor in pivot mode for reading magazines, web browsing and in landscape mode for watching TV shows.

    • Im not sure the actual quality of dick smith branded tv after kogan monitor experience. But i like your idea.

Also didnt think of selling off the other two monitors so that i can actually increase my budget to get a better one. My days with multi monitor had passed. I cant now spend too much time in front of pc.

      Thanks

  • I have a similar question on the mentioned philips monitor. I thought I will ask here than starting another thread.

I am using my old 2011 macbook pro as a desktop these days in my office - connected to a 21 inch monitor.
Need to upgrade my monitor, would this be any good? (excuse noob-ness)
Dont do any gaming, mostly browsing/streaming and basic work etc. I have one of those massive executive desks (similar to this https://doxz7msmg7sxx.cloudfront.net/media/catalog/product/c… ) and forced to sit far enough from the edge where monitor would sit or mount.
