My House Was Broken into, Could You Please Recommend Home Security System That Could Provide a Clear Footage for The Police?

Please help.

Someone broken into our house and it is not the first time. I believe I know the person and this person is on drug…

The police said they need a clear footage so that they can take him to the court.

They have stolen something that is only 6 meters away from my bedroom - I am terrified!!

My dad said he is happy to install it for me if I want to go with the wired ones.

I have 20% off code from ebay expire today. I want some thing can send a clear photo to my phone please.

My son have just turned three, and I need something in his bedroom that could go me a quick response.

I want a dog but mum is a cat person :(

I am looking at Swann and Hikvision on ebay

        • @Gershom: i get what you mean by manageable recoil as going too high a calibre will likely result in the gun flying off your hands and even smacking you in the face.

        • @xoom:
All you really need is a pump action shot gun. If the sound of a 12 gauge loading doesn't make the intruder shit his pants, am afraid nothing will… minus keeping a tiger as a pet. :P

        • Actually I always prefered the .357 Magnum.

A 357 magnum is a good weapon, but I've seen 38's bounce off of windshieds. No good in a city like this.

        • @StewBalls: A .357 has a lot more wallop than a .38. That's why I got one. L frame, S&W, changed it over to a Wolf trigger spring, Davies grips, laser sight, goodnight to the loser perp.

        • @Gershom: It's another Dirty Harry quote…I thought you'd recognize it.

        • @StewBalls:

          Doh! I should have.

    Can we address this?

      Get a tiger.

    • Which half is cat, and which half is person? ;)

Not to discourage you OP, but if they smart enough, they could have just wear a hoodie, sunglass & glove and the police won't be able to do anything about it. That's what happened to me, clear a s day pic but can't the face at all the recognise the person. You better off get a super good guard dog

    • I recommend a dire wolf game of thrones style.

    one word… bikies

  • If they were able to get in, and you don't know how… there are three options

    1. they didn't change all the locks, so the old key still works
    2. you leave your doors unlocked
    3. something insecure about your door/window locks.

Roof tiles, I've locked myself out of my house before and it takes 2 minutes to get up onto the roof rip off some tiles and pop in through the manhole.

      • that raises more questions tbh. Even though i know where my man hole is, i wouldnt dare climb in through the tiles. I know im very like to miss the rafter, step on the plaster board and fall through the ceiling. :/

I could be wrong, but i thought some of the tiles were wired in. I'll check next time i'm up there (standard red terracotta)

        • Yeah mine are just standard tiles. Once you've got daylight shining into the roof you can see exactly where you need to step.

        • It sounds like you are not cut out to be a burglar :). For that matter, neither am I.

Some older houses have tiles wired down, but I think that the majority would not have this done (it's time consuming and expensive to do).

        • @trongy: lol defiantly not. Should have seen me try and get my fat ass out the 2nd story window to clean the gutters. It was embarrassing! If I was a neighbour I would have pulled up a chair to watch.

    • 4.The burglar is Vision, and he phases through your walls.

Security camera is useless. Just install a turret gun that fill kill the intruder the moment they step into your house.

    • Just like in Aliens, no less.. and with much more ammo!

  • So this threads huge so I haven't read what everyone else has suggested.

Cheap IP cams either 1.3mp or fhd should do the trick if you're using the right size lense. For a little more money a decent dahua or hikvision cam might be good.

However for the recording side of things a great piece of software is zone minder. It runs under Linux only however is very extensible and the motion detection is great. The main reason I recommend this is the option to encode a video once motion is detected and email it to you, all settings and encoding for the video can be set manually to allow a speedy upload. That way if the nvr is stolen you're not completely screwed. I've got my 1.3mpx cheapo cameras down to 1.3mb for a 5 minute video which makes for a quick upload on adsl.

Of course it sacrifices on framerate and quality but it's enough to identify someone.

spend $40 on the xiaomi security camera (pay extra for express delivery), hide it well (stores on the SD card only).

  • Take you're mum to Look at some dogs that you could rescue at the same time and she might like one of them, too bad you don't have my cat cause she is a crazy bitch :) We have a steel baseball bat at the ready in our room so if I need to jump up I have a good weapon quickly :) I hope you sort it out and stay safe

  • Hikvision dome camera
i have a few I can sell you
they run off ethernet and i will include a POE injector
you can view it on your pc and I have software that I can setup as well that will record when someone walks into the trigger zone

    dont bother with anything else
3mp and 25m IR for night
    perfect quality day and night
    pm me for more help

  • As others have said you should be looking at how they got in did someone leave a door open?

Changing your locks and a couple of IP cameras around near your baby's room would be where I'd start. Then look at security lights / door alarms and finally a full CCTV system.

go online, join some terrorist groups, put up a ISIS flag, get round the clock free securtiy for free

    • Let's face it, nobody's gonna screw with you then…not out of direct fear of you or ISIS, just fear of the PC militant left-wing squad labeling them xenophobes!

  • You could consider Chubb Security. Looks like they're $1,220 Installation and $48 per month that includes their mobile app monitoring, a security person that comes out if the alarm goes off, they ring the Police if required, battery backup and video cameras all fully installed by a professional. If youre interested their website is here - https://www.chubbhomesecurity.com.au/security-solutions/ Also would be interested in any constructive opinions anyone has on Chubb or monitored security. Thanks :)

$48/mo is a lot. Why would you spend that much on monitored security?

I reckon by the time the cops (or chubb) come, the thieves will be long gone.

      Just get insurance

  • This one comes without hard drive. But you can buy 1TB in around $90 from MSY. I think it has good features in very reasonable price.
