Harvey Norman Refused Price Match with MSY

So first time price matching at Harvey Norman…

Manager said they don't match msy, because they are a "grey dealer" and don't deal with Samsung directly like they do, even though the product code is identical and comes with the same Australian warranty.

Sounds like rubbish to me, but wanted to know your thoughts and if you've ever been successful price matching at Harvey Norman.

That would've been the first time I bought something from HN in 2 years, guess I'll let my wallet do the talking a bit longer..

They normally do refuse against msy.

Why didn't/don't you just buy from msy?

I did in the end, HN was closer though

  • I don't think MSY is a grey dealer. I had price beat from office works quoting MSY many times.
What were you trying to price match?

MSY do not sell grey imports.

Hardly Normal are a bunch of scam artists.

Harp Norm days are numbered as JB plans to buy good guys.

Officeworks pricematches religiously. HN have almost always declined a cheap pricematch for me.

    • not true my friend. in fact, regarding officeworks i am in the process of writing a complaint to ACCC. the way officeworks handled it was very sinister and outright deceptive.

Wow that sucks. I literally walk in to both my local Officeworks stores and use their demo PC's to bring up the staticice pricelist to match. I've had memory cards and peripherals reduced by half price and never a single question even if a store is over 30min away which MSY is.

        • yep. historically, my experience too. if i told you what i went through you would never believe. as it involved 1 person at their store and 3 people over phone, i am seething.

Yep only tried the once, and until i read on here they have amended their ways i won't be bothering again.

Thanks shapers, something to keep in mind.

I have price matched MSY at JBHIFI before no issues. Haven't shopped in Harvey Norman for about ten years. Never liked the staff in the tech department at my local.

I tried to price match MSY at Officeworks West Ryde once for a Logi gaming mouse. The grumpy old man at the counter basically gave me an excuse along the lines of 'MSY is a dodgy business that imports things" and basically told me get out of his face.

Great service, will shop again A+++

    • I really don't get it, they don't lose customers for not price matching, but they do for wasting people's time and lying to our faces.. If you're not going to bother following your OWN price match policy it's doing yourself a disservice.. More harm than good if u ask me

    • Umart = MSY prices.
There's one in West Ryde near the TAFE!

      • That was before UMART actually opened. Old fart no longer works there anymore. Guess he was far too grumpy. He might have been the manager or something, as it seemed that he called the shots and had MSY on the price-matching blacklist.

The customer service there is also consistently poor — the people who work there must be the most unmotivated salespeople on earth because they don't smile, don't engage customers and seem to like hiding behind the counter rather than serving customers that are waiting to pay.

        • I've had problems in the past with Officeworks Pricematch before. I find if you write to their online sales team, they'll do the pricematch for you + postage (you should be able to specify pickup).

    • Office works are very happy to price match MSY for me. They do add on cost of postage though. I wouldn't go back to that store you went to.

  • Thanks for the replies, not suprised to see my experience is the hardly normal norm

  • Move along, nothing to see here… (Sigh)

  • I price matched my a/c at Harvey Norman a few weeks ago. List price was $899, but delivery was another $55. I told them Appliances Online had it for $919 delivered, and he said that they used contractors for delivery, but he gave it to me for $864 + $55 to get it to $919. Funnily enough, Appliances Online's price has gone up… it's $945 for the same a/c now. I'm not sure what they're doing, because last night it was $949. :P I wonder if they track my cookies. :/

So, my point is - HVN does price-match, at least in my experience.

Haha, I've had a similar experience with HN, however I went in fore armed. Had a copy of their price match policy, a copy of the msy price list and an email addressed to ACA on my phone ready to send. Needless to say when the store manager refused the price match he changed his tune upon being advised he could read the email before it was sent.

    • Ozb hero right here

    • Its more effective if you find the managers mother on fb and threaten to tell his mother that her son has been a bad boy, if he refused. Get freebies too.
