Profanity Words. How They Work (Solved)

I noticed earlier in a deal that vagina was marked as profanity (discussion on dairy cows and insemination).

but interestingly it's not marked as profanity here.

I think we are adult enough to use words found in the dictionary.

or is there a specific reason not to show these words in deals?.

is there a list of words considered profanity?

I agree, the amount of censorship is overbearing at times which is a shame because I love this site to bits.

If mods/admins are so worried about this, perhaps they should look at having a 'SFW' option which would block all mature deals and posts? I think it's highly unnecessary but it would get around the problem.

It is unfortunate to see posts and even threads full of interesting discussion being deleted just because some over-sensitive mods have a skewed sense of what is appropriate and what isn't.

    • Examples? We don't remove posts because we are over-sensitive. If you look at April stats, you will see the reasons.

      • Bit hard to give specific examples if they've all been deleted! But I will keep it in mind the next time I see it happens and send you a link.

      P.S.

I was being vile and distasteful. Don't call it a gash unless you want to get served a can of whoop ass.

  • is there a list of words considered profanity?

Yes it is automated based on a long list of words. Just hit the report button and we will republish it.

If you see (profanity) in a comment then that is the system.

EDIT: Found the post, and added the words back.

    • Cool. Cheers

Is there any way to disable this so those of us who aren't (profanity) (profanity) (profanity) and don't mind seeing such things are allowed to do so?

    • You need to learn to communicate without swearing if you want your request to be granted. Otherwise people can't work out what your request is.

      • I didn't swear, I put the word profanity in parenthesis three times. One was the hook, another the line and the third the sinker.

        • You caught me.

        • @Gimli:

Actually it was a serious question with that thrown in as humour to let the minds of those that read it run wild thinking "omg omg omg I wonder what he said!"

Should my request/suggestion be eventually granted, I was hoping some would return having disabled the filter only to discover my evil plan.

Thanks for ruining it for me, (profanity).

          ;)

        • @foobar: (John)(Bloody)(Howard)

    • No. The words are replaced at the time when the comments are saved, not at the rendering time.

      • I see the server can't store profanities
