Kronenbourg 6 for $10 + Other Dan Murphy's June Member Offers

750

Sups up, people! Here's what all you tight-arses will be drinking next month if you've got a Dan Murphy's within staggering distance.

As far as the beer goes, nothing particularly interesting on offer, but purely as an alcohol delivery mechanism Asahi might be the standout here. I'd also be keen to see what the Cricketer's Arms tastes like though:

Kronenbourg 1664 330ml 6 for $10 (was $14.90)
Stella Artois Leger 330ml 6 for $9 (was $12.90)
Asahi Super Dry 500ml 6 for $16 (was $22.95)
Cricketer's Arms Scorcher Summer Ale 6 for $12 (was $18.49)
Crown Golden Ale 6 for $11 (was $19.99)

For the winos, girl-drink drunks and bogans here are the rest of highlights. The Beefeater doesn't seem a bad price, but you need to be careful with the cheap stuff nowadays, at least if you're drinking it in public: http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/society/woman-thrown-out-…

Warburn Rumours 6 for $21 (was $28.20 for 6/$4.90 per bottle)
Monkey Bay 2 for $15 (was $13.99 per bottle)

Dewars 700ml 12 yr old $42 (was $46.99)
Stolen Spiced Rum $35 (was 42.99)
Beefeater Gin $34 (was $41.99)

Cruiser Mudshake 4 for $11 (was 14.99)
Nelson County Bourbon and Cola 10 for $25 (was 19.99 for 6)
Crown Royal Varieties 4 for $16 (was 19.90)

Monteith's Crushed Apple Cider 10 for $18 (was 24.99)

Just bought a case of the Asahi for $70 as its actually Japanese brewed :) Would work out at $64 under this if you could buy more than 3 a day. I was wondering why it was suddenly appearing.

The Summer Scorcher Ale IMO is very nice. Quite hoppy and a lot like Stone and Wood Pacific Ale. Its a step up from that Gage Roads Single Fin but similar for reference. At $12 a 6-pack its pretty good - far better than any of the James Squire, Matilday Bay clones out there.

There was a segment on the ABC show The Checkout that showed how different brands described themselves in industry trade magazines. Apparently Asahi markets itself to buyers as being one of the most profitable high-margin beer brands it's possible to stock :-)

Much prefer Cricketer's Arms to any JQ/MB beer and enjoyed the Single Fin and Vale Ale a lot, so this might not be such a lean month after all.

It's nice to see someone who appreciates real Asahi… Not those rubbish stubbies that are made in China.

Will be stocking up for sure !

      • +2

Yes, you have to be careful. The 500ml and 2L cans are brewed in Japan but their cases are brewed in China. I miss those 2L cans.

I will be stocking up on Asahi this month.

        • I notice those 2L cans usually come out around xmas here.

      • Had Asahi from UK as well and that was pretty blegh. Real Asahi from Japan is so good.

    • +1

Good to hear about the Cricketers Arms beer. I was really surprised by how good the single fin was and bought a tonne of the vale ale which was pretty good too.

      • +1

Also the pack of 10 cans of Cricketers Arms Spearhead Pale Ale for $22.95 (everyday price) is excellent value. Nice drop, crisp and just hoppy enough to be crafty ;)

    • How can you get Japanese made Asahi for $64? It's not on special for members and its $79.90 at our local DM. (I assume you speak about Black Asahi?)

      • +1

These are next month's offers, from June 1

      • +1

        Black Asahi is the shit!

        • this morning picked up 14 bottles for $3.5 each… :-)

BEWARE with this Asahi offer, check the best before date. I just got a batch from DM Springwood (C&C) which are BB 31/07/16 and taste foul! They're flat and there's just something really off with the flavour.

I'm quite familiar with the cans, and they tasted strange enough for me to check the date (bottom of cans/on the packaging for 6pk)

Id really hope DM are not trying to push old stock, and have newcomers try rubbish last stock. They've been helpful, and I can return. Haven't yet.

Not sure if there's new stock though, that would depend on store

      • +1

lots of batches 07/2016 and 08/2016. I managed to find a DM with 10/2016 so have been stocking from there…

  • 1664 Blanc too?

these dans deals get worse each month.

and they are lifting an extra $1-$2 from you as well on many six packs!

    • +10

More importantly, it's been ages since there has been good beer on the specials.

      • +6

Vale IPA is pretty decent this month. Ten bucks for a four pack isn't quite the bargain of the century though.

    • +2

      I disagree.
The Asahi is a very reasonable price.

      • -3

$64 a case is not reasonable

ive had it for like $40-50 before

        and yes, Japanese brewed

        • Care to provide a link Gump? I would have been all over it like a cheap suit
$64 is cheaper than the popular $65 per carton deal posted here

$40-50? Unless you live in the motherland, you most likely got it that cheap because:
          a: it's about to expire
b: through a code discount error eg I got a carton of Squire for $30 from Woolies a few years ago

        • You got the 500mL cans in a 24pk for $40-50? Where? When? :/

  • +6

I like Kronenbourg a lot. It's very smooth and easy drinking.

  • +1 for effort, thanks OP!

  • Kronenbourg just in time for Bastille Day. Excellent!

  • +13

Boy, Morty, I really Kronenbourg'd to world up, didn't I? We got a whole bunch of Kronenbourg's walking around down there, Morty!

  • I'm tempted to buy the Kronenbourg, Asahi and Cricketer's Arms. At $48 slab equivalent cost I'll probably pass on the CA. The others I will buy.

And if everyone hadn't realised already the Stella Artois Legere is a mid strength beer; 3.5%.

  • Kronenbourg 1664 is my most favorite beer. Cheers!

  • +2

Stolen spiced rum is worth a try if you like a spiced rum. Bit different than others available, has more of a smokey coffee flavour than the usual vanilla notes. Definitely going to pick some up at that price.

Drank the kronenbourg a few years ago over seas in Scotland was the worst hangover ever from beer ever in my life, and i am a beer monster uuum never again

  • +5

That crown golden ale is right up with the worst beers I've ever had. There's no hop character at all and I think they use water straight out of the Yarra to brew it (or sub in another river with poor water quality if it's not brewed in Melbourne).

    • +4

I've heard that CUB dry-hop their beers with used footy socks.

    • +1

Crown is just awful. Quite literally just re-badged fosters.

    • Having never tried the Crown Golden Ale before I decided to give it a go.
I have to say I understand where you're coming from.
As far as as "golden ale" style beers are concerned, it's the most mild I've tasted.
If you want a really strong ale taste, this is not the beer you are looking for.
Perhaps this is a cross-over style beer for those who want to graduate from very light lager style beers.

    • I would say it's the worst beer I've had. Unbelievably bad. I got it for free from Dan's when it first came out.

  • Most of the beer prices I see are cheaper at Costco if you have 1 near you, also Fat Yak Pale is regularly around $43 for a case of 24.

  • I have just started working out at the gym and eating a healthy diet. Is beer included? I am confused.

    • +3

Depends on your goals. Gaining muscle a few beers here and there won't have a huge impact if the rest of your diet is good. Losing weight you are best off cutting out booze, or at least counting the calories into your daily allowance.

  • Nicely written, humourous post, chickentaste and good info too.

  • cheers, i'll be trying the cricketers arms.
