Where to Look for Discounts in Singapore?

Heading to Singapore next week and everybody I speak to is telling me it is going to be expensive. Thats saying something seeing I live in Perth.

Anyway, does anyone have any ideas on where to go for discounts or reduced prices for Universal studios, parks, tours, food, taxis etc?

Maybe there is some sort of multi use cards, vouchers etc somewhere around but I cannot seem to find any from Australia.

We have accommodation sorted but the rest is unplanned.

Any ideas would be much appreciated

How long are you going ? You could make a side trip to Thailand ex Singapore to Phuket, Krabi, Pattaya

EG Railey Beach (Krabi)3 night 4* accom incl buffet breakfasts, and return (2hr) flights = S$250 pp.
could help reduce the overall per day average cost of your trip.

And if you add it to the beginning or the end of your Singapore visit (ie in transit) you'll be eligible for the S$40 pp transit dollars to spend within Changi airport.

  • taxis are cheap. so is hawkers food. yumm.

    • this. You can train and bus everywhere as well for about $1.

Food in hawkers is the best and only $2-3 a plate.

The only really expensive thing in Singapore is the hotel (and the tourist attractions).

  • Hawker stalls for food, taxi or MTR for transport depending on where you are staying. The zoo is great if you're into that sort of thing. Buying food at a regular supermarket is more expensive than eating out, i'd suggest the east coast lagoon village at sunset for dinner. Eat your bodyweight in chicken rice and make me nostalgic for my time in sing.

  • Depends on what you're getting really.
Accommodation isn't cheap, nor is it really expensive either.
Food is cheap and really good
Booze is on the pricey side
Taxis and public transport is cheap

Universal Studio is so so, worth going on a weekday to avoid massive crowds.
The zoo is nice too, not at all expensive

There's a little counter at Changi Airport where you can buy tickets to different attractions in advance. It's not cheaper by much (maybe 5%) but it saves time not having to line up later on. Only downside is you need to make sure you end up going to the attractions as you have pre-purchased the tickets. I didn't really find the food to be that cheap, it might be cheaper at Hawkers stalls, but didn't end up going to any. Taxis are cheap, everything else is pretty much similar or more expensive.

    • Is this counter easy to see when arriving?
Sounds like the way to go so far

      • Yeah, it's around the exit where you catch the taxis, so you should spot it, it's a pretty small counter & one girl manning it, just ask the airport staff. They have a lot of different packages you can buy, like I said before, discounts aren't anything to write home about, its more for the convenience factor. However, I didn't end up going to one attraction that I paid for, couldn't fit it in, so just be mindful of that.

For Groupon style stuff, this site looks like an aggregator:
    http://www.deals-singapore.com/

If that appeals, you might check out similar for Malaysia, as they post deals for Malay tourists visiting SG for a break.
