@redcreek200: I said in the comment they had only had one one and I didn't post it as a deal, I'm just trying to help someone get the cpu cheaper.

    • Wonder if they have any at slacks Creek qld. I'd buy it for that.

Yep, sorry, all "i5's" are the same. Nevermind the generation difference….

    • It's a good deal for a new PC, it's just not worth upgrading if you already have one.

You're right, though: it's more accurate to think of them all as having identical performance than significantly different performance:

The new gen are faster, just not fast enough to be worth upgrading if you have, say, a sandy bridge from 2011 or better. You're looking at around 15% more powerful than a 2500K (which won't generally translate to a full 15% faster performance in games etc), and possibly actually 10% slower if overclocking (the 2500k had better overclocking benchmark scores)

Good for someone with a dual core g32xx for a pre tax time upgrade.

  • Better value to buy a gen 6

  • oh wow thought these would be a bit more cheaper by now.
i got mine almost two years ago for $274 pickup. (i guess i didn't realise what a bargain it was at the time)
    runs great.

    • Two years ago the aussie dollar was worth like 40% more.

      • oh right that makes a lot more sense.
