  • Fat32 => useless for recording!

    • Do you mind elaborating? I was planning to buy one to tape stuff off free to air TV etc. Understand that Lazer is not the greatest brand but for around 80 bucks and HDMI output, sounded like a deal.

  • So, given that video generates 25MB per minute and that FAT32 files are limited to 4GB, that means you can only record a maximum of 160 minutes. So if that program is longer that 2h50, too bad. That's how I see it.

    • +2

It will break the record file into several chunks.

      • exactly, it will break it up into separate files that are 4gb each.

  • +1

I have one of these units and it 'broke' after less than a week. Every couple of days it looses half the channels and needs to be powered down (switch is on the back which is annoying) and reprogrammed, which takes 5-10 minutes.

  • Wonder how similar it is to http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/4bde0bfc024b001… which I bought yesterday.

Although I paid $85, which I might have to go and question off them…

Compared to my DP-P2, it's kinda lame, but it's for the mother-in-law who only watches ABC and SBS, so will probably suffice if it doesn't break in a week.

    • After using the laser one, if i was given the choice i might have gone the dgtec, its quite a buggy unit

    • Can the dgtec playback avi, MP4 files from USB? Sound like the Lazer is able to do so.

      • Yeah, that might be a difference. They just looked so similar, but they ALL look the same.
It didn't come up with anything when I plugged in a HDD yesterday. That remote is absolute crap btw, and it is the same one.

Well I have 14 days at DSE to return it, so that's a bonus anyway.

Can you return once you open box/ used?

          • @POWERevolution: At DSE, you can return no questions asked within 14 days. I think you should at least give them the box back, but I don't know if it's required.

BTW. I can play back avis and can also get the movies off the box and watch on PC after conversion.

I'm pretty sure no one will read this though. :P

  • can it record straight to a 2.5" external HDD ?
