    I remember back when Pokemon RBY was out (15+ years ago) the local shopping centres would have these machines set up where you would plug in your Gameboy and they would download Mew for you. It was a long time ago and I was very young but I still remember it clear as day.

      I got my Mew completely by chance.

      I had my Gameboy with me while shopping at Rundle Mall with my mum, we went into Myer and discovered that there was a Pokemon distribution. I decided that I wanted to restart my game and journey with Mew. So I saved a New Game and went in to get my Mew. Turns out you need to have the Pokedex in order for the transfer to work.

      So my mum patiently waited for ~10 minutes while I got the Pokedex. I enjoyed my journey with Mew after that, and it became my favourite Pokemon, even to this day.

      Too bad my journey was cut short because I had a party the same year and while I was outside playing with friends, one of my other 'friends' transferred my Mew onto his Gameboy.

      I hacked mine with a friend's friends game genie and proceeded to duplicate them (with the weird transfer cable trick) to every kid I met who wanted one. Years later I met some kid at a soccer game who was playing gold and he showed me his mew and it had me as the original trainer!

      I remember that one too.
      That time had 5 empty slots in my pokemon list so you could go in line and get 5 at a time instead of just 1. I did it twice more before every kid behind me in the queue figured out what was going on.

      I gave a few mews away to friends who didn't know about the event.

      if your talking about the darkrai event , i missed out aswell , best to get them is on ebay now , i bought one for like 4 dollars. i was desperate and ebgames around my area was all sold out.

    Getting a message "You cannot yet receive the gift provided by this code" haven't had any problems with codes on cards or receiving through Internet. Any ideas?

    There seems to be a pattern to this.

    If you missed out on physical distribution codes from EB games, it will eventually be released as a free gift a few months later.
